When the Heart Cries

WOODSMALL, CINDY
WHEN THE HEART CRIES

Despite being raised in a traditional Old Order Amish family, seventeen-year-old Hannah Lapp desires to break with custom, and marry outside the cloistered community. She's been in love with Mennonite Paul Waddell for three years, and before returning to college for his senior year, Paul asks Hannah to be his wife. Hannah accepts, aware that her choice will change her relationship with her family forever.

On the evening of their engagement, tragedy strikes and in one unwelcome encounter, all that Hannah has known and believed is destroyed. As she finds herself entangled in questions that the Old Ways of her people cannot answer, Hannah faces the possibility of losing her place in her family, in her community -- and in the heart of the man she loves.

CINDY WOODSMALL HAS A KNACK FOR CREATING CHARACTERS THAT YOU REALLY CARE ABOUT FROM THE VERY FIRST INTRODUCTION...HOWEVER SHE ALSO HAS A KNACK FOR TWISTING THEIR LIVES INTO A COMPLICATED MESS THAT WRECKS HAVOC WITH YOUR EMOTIONS.

I FEEL POSITIVELY GUTTED AFTER JUST FINISHING WHEN THE HEART CRIES. THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PLOT, THE AGONIZING DECISIONS SOME OF THE CHARACTERS MAKE, THE INJUSTICES THAT AREN'T RIGHTED, THE ILL-FATED TIMING....ACK! I WAS ALTERNATELY SPEED READING AND PUSHING THE BOOK ASIDE IN ORDER TO CATCH MY BREATH.

BUT THROUGH THE DESPERATION WE CATCH A GLIMMER OF HOPE AND THIS FIRST BOOK OF THE SISTERS OF THE QUILT SERIES READS LIKE THE PROLOGUE OF A JOURNEY JUST BEGINNING . POSITIVELY RIVETING AND MIGHT I SUGGEST HAVING ALL THREE BOOKS IN THE SERIES ON HAND SO YOU DON'T HAVE ANY LAG TIME IN BETWEEN? THE WAITING IS UNBEARABLE AND IT'S ONLY BEEN A HALF HOUR SINCE I FINISHED WHEN THE HEART CRIES!

What did I tell you, girl!? Fabulous, eh?

I have to say, the 2nd is going a lot slower, but I think it might be because I'm busier. I just don't seem to be able to get into it. There's a lot of new and different characters to get used to, since Hannah is gone. But there are a few shocking things that have happened so far! Can't wait to see how you like it,
    Hannah

  2. I confess to reading the third one instead of the whole series. :( But the third one is GOOD, let me tell you! Her writing is powerful!

Also, I have a blog award for you! :) Stop on by and pick it up when you get a chance!

  3. I have this one in my TBR pile. I've been looking through your reviews and already added a couple to my want list.

  4. Hannah -- don't tease!!!! I've already put both the regular and large print editions of the next one on hold just so I double my chances of getting one of them sooner. (they're both already on hold. Aaaaagh!)

  5. Amber -- a blog award? Pray tell how one 'picks up' such a virtual thing? I confess to be mostly ignorant on all things blogging...other then reading and responding (which is fairly new to me).

  6. Bluerose, glad I could add to your TBR list. I LOVE picking up recommends here and there. It's so much more personal when a 'reader' (as opposed to a publisher who wants to sell the book) recommends something.

  7. Oh, well I guess you don't really "pick them up." ;) But, if you wanted to, you could post about it and pass it on to others (the rules are in my post). If not, you can simply put the picture of the award in your sidebar and enjoy! :D

    Hope that makes sense!

    Just you wait, girl!!

If only we lived closer....you could just borrow it from our library! Oh wait! I have it from there....but it'll be back in a day or two

    Hannah

  9. Kav, I love your suggestion of having all three on hand to read at once. I read the series as each book was released, and I always could not wait for the next book. The entire series is great!

BTW, nice to discover your blog (through Amber's link with the blog award). I'm going to read it for a bit.

  10. Glad you found your way here, Michelle. Hope you find some other titles for your TBR pile. I think I would have died of suspense if I had to wait months between each of the Sisters of the Quilt series book to be published. I like finding this kind of series once they've all been published. LOL. I'm an impatient reader.
