Captive Maiden

GIVEAWAY

DICKERSON, MELANIE
CAPTIVE MAIDEN

Happily ever after...or happily nevermore?

Gisela's childhood was filled with laughter and visits from nobles such as the duke and his young son. But since her father's death, each day has been filled with nothing but servitude to her stepmother. So when Gisela meets the duke's son, Valten -- the boy she has daydreamed about for years -- and learns he is throwing a ball, she vows to attend, even if it's only for a taste of a life she'll never have. To her surprise, she catches Valten's eye. Though he is rough around the edges, Gisela finds that Valten has completely captured her heart. But other forces are bent on keeping the two from falling further in love, putting Gisela in more danger than she ever imagined.

My Review:

I just can't get enough well-written fairy tale retellings and I'm thrilled that Melanie Dickerson has introduced this genre to the Christian market.  Familiar elements of the classic Cinderella story take on a new twist in this historical romance. I love how Dickerson blends traditional with 'new' and I enjoyed picking out common threads as I read along.

Gisela is an intriguing heroine...she is both vulnerable and defiant and desperate to break free from her stepmother's cruel deceptions. Enter one night in shining armour by the name of Valten. Dickerson fans will recognize him as the 'perfect' older brother of Gabe, hero in The Fairest Beauty. No worries though, Captive Maiden reads as a perfect standalone...this isn't a series in the true sense of the word.  In fact the title is perfect because this book is guaranteed to hold you captive until you reach the end!
