Christmas in Hiding

GIVEAWAY

NOLAN, CATE
CHRISTMAS IN HIDING

Christmas in witness protection

After her ex-boyfriend's murder, Callie Martin has no choice but to trade her quiet life as a kindergarten teacher for the witness protection program. It's US Marshal Jackson Walker's job to keep Callie safe, but the men who would do her harm just keep getting closer and closer. Either someone on the inside is betraying Callie, or she's lying to Jackson about her involvement. So he decides to go off the grid, spiriting her away to the remote Vermont countryside at Christmas. Jackson wants to trust her, but with danger dogging their every move, he'll have to use all his energy to keep her alive.

My Review:

Cate Nolan brings a fresh, vibrant voice to the Love Inspired Suspense line up in this debut Christmas novel.

I could totally relate to Callie. She has this child-like exuberance that can't be squelched for long. And it's contagious -- even though Jackson tries so valiantly to guard against it. Love how her faith sustains her. She has realistic reactions to the terrifying situations she finds herself in but she also has the ability to regroup and find things to appreciate during the most difficult times. "You could build a life snatching small moments like these so long as you took the time to appreciate them and give thanks." (p.97)

That optimism keeps Jackson off-kilter. Callie draws him in despite all his efforts to remain professionally aloof. In fact, you might say Jackson is the Grinch to Callie's Cindy Lou Who. He's a hyper vigilant grouch running on fumes but he can't help appreciating Callie's resiliency. And he's reluctant to admit it comes from her faith. I adored watching him slowly melt under the force of her infectious personality.

Christmas in witness protection doesn't sound very festive -- especially when you're running for your life -- but Nolan does an amazing job of infusing the Christmas spirit into every aspect of this story. In fact, the season almost takes on the persona of a secondary character and that made this read so much fun! Honestly, the best mix of Christmas and romantic suspense ever!!!!!

Action-packed and heart-warming. A holiday read to remember.

  12. I'm pretty sure Cate is a fairly new LIS author & this being her debut book :-) I've already won this on a different blog & probably won't get it until it releases in October, but I wanted to see what you thought of it, Kav. I like that the hero & heroine are on opposite sides, it always creates such interesting sparks! And I love to see a character grow in their faith, always interesting to see how an author plays it out in a suspense...it either makes or breaks a person. Glad to see that Cate has a good balance of everything, this is sure to please my readers heart! Can't wait to get my hands on this one when it arrives :-)
Blessings to you, Kav, and thanks for all the great reviews you do. Always a delight to read!

  13. I tend to worry about Christmas themed stories being too cliche or singularly focused. Your review was very enthusiastic and I have learned to trust your opinion since I have seen some common reading interests. Thanks, Kav.
