Shenandoah Nights

GIVEAWAY

BELCASTRO, LISA
SHENANDOAH NIGHTS

The last thing sixth-grade teacher Rebecca O'Neill wants to do during the final week of her summer vacation is chaperone twenty-five students on a six-night, seven-day trip aboard the schooner Shenandoah. But after a desperate phone call from her school principal, she doesn't have a choice. Worse, the ship is rumoured to be "haunted." Five years ago, during the Holmes Hole student cruise, teacher Melissa Smith complained about hearing voices and seeing visions, then disappeared without a trace--from the very same cabin where Rebecca will be staying.

Everything seems normal on Sunday afternoon as Rebecca boards the impressive Shenandoah. But as she sits in Cabin 8, she hears hushed voices whispering about a cannon. Mike, a crewmember, insists he believes the crazy Island story that Melissa time-traveled to Colonial Boston. His eerie interest and constant tracking Rebecca's whereabouts rattles her nerves.

Her first night onboard, Rebecca drifts off to sleep...and wakes the following morning with memories of a dream about secretive conversation concerning a battle with Britain. Monday night Rebecca crawls into her bunk after an adventurous day of sailing, swimming, and overseeing students. She's startled awake when a man grabs her and yells, "Stowaway!" Dragged in front of Captain Benjamin Reed, she looks up into the most gorgeous brown eyes she's ever seen....

My Review:

Squuueeaaalllll!!! Time Travel!!! Suspend all logic, throw common sense out the window and be prepared to be swept away by a unique love story that spans centuries. I do love this genre and there aren't enough books written for the adult market, let alone in Christian Fiction. So I  am happy dancing after reading Shenandoah Nights -- especially since it's the first in a series.

It's campy and fun and romantically delicious. Benjamin is the stuff heroes are made of and Rebecca is quickly out of her element and not just because she's time travelled back two hundred years. A tenuous romance, some toe-curling love scenes and the shipboard setting all mesh together to make this an unforgettable read.

  1. This sounds awesome! Have you read The Reckoning by MaryLu Tyndall!? Time travel with a modern day young woman who ends up on a pirate ship...300 yrs in the past! So good! I have not read this author before, but this sounds like a fabulous read. Thx so much for your intriguing review, Kav!
P.S. Sorry for typos above...am on strong antibiotics for kidney infection that nasty stone left behind. Makes my already fuzzy brain even fuzzier. Ugh! I hate taking medicine! Sorry about the rant. lol

    1. Ohh....hope you feel better soon. Take acedophillus (sp?) to help your body cope with those nasty antibotics...which really aren't nasty since they are fighting an infection.

And yes, I have The Reckoning on my radar thanks to your review a while back. Just haven't read it yet...but I will. I love a good romantic time travel story. LOL Good luck, Diana.

  4. Kav, I absolutely love time travel stories. That is about as far as I go when it comes to science fiction. That and an occasional alien story - as long as it takes place on earth and the alien looks human. haha I have had Lisa Belcastro's books on my tbr for some time and would love to finally read them. tlhcoupon(at)hotmail(dot)com

    1. I need a dose of romance in a story as well, Merry. And when the romance crosses centuries -- well it just adds an extra edge because how can the author achieve a happily ever after? Good luck.

  7. I've read Lynne Gentry's Biblical time-slip series "The Carthage Chronicles", which was an interesting twist. By the time I got to the 3rd book, I was hooked! I also have MaryLu Tyndall's "The Reckoning" (yet-to-be-read) and have heard great things about it. It's certainly a different twist to any story, one that I'd probably read sporadically. Not that I don't enjoy the time-slip aspect, but because it's just something that I'm not read a lot of! I do like to mix up my reading, however, so I don't get stuck in a reading-only-one-genre-funk.

P.S. I do have the Christmas book in this series.
