Echo of Danger

GIVEAWAY

PERRY, MARTA
ECHO OF DANGER

In peaceful Pennsylvania Dutch country, a young mother discovers a shocking danger -- and an unexpected ally...

A whisper of a threat looms over widow Deidre Morris. She and her young son have unwittingly become prisoners of her intimidating father-in-law's power. One wrong step could find her son torn from her and in the hands of the influential judge. When Deidre collides with an intriguing stranger, the prospect of a new friendship gives her renewed hope...until a devastating murder rocks the quiet community of Echo Falls and Deidre learns first impressions can't be trusted.

Attorney Jase Glassman's assignment is straightforward: befriend Deidre, gather incriminating evidence...and allow her dogged father-in-law to take custody of her child. Anything else, including losing himself in her honest charm, will compromise the job he was hired to do. Yet when a murderer ushers danger into the town, Jase's only instinct is to protect Deidre and her son -- no matter the sacrifice.

My Review:

Secrets don't stay buried forever. Isn't that an awesomely sinister tagline for a romantic suspense? Sends a chilling thrill up my spine and makes me eager to delve into the story. And, oh my goodness, what a story!  Echo of Danger is the perfect mix of mystery, menace and romance.

Perry is brilliant at putting together a suspenseful plot. Lots of subtle twists and alarming turns.and me jumping up and down when I think I figured something out! I like to make my armchair sleuthing interactive! :-)

And then there's the romance which has it's own gnarly twists. I connected with Deidre right off. but it took me longer to warm up to Jase.. That's because I found the agreement he's made with Deidre's overbearing father-in-law unsettling. So underhanded and scheming. But Perry slowly reveals pieces of Jase's past that helped me understand how he came to make that kind of bargain with the Judge. And once he meets Deidre he's already doubting himself. That kind of internal conflict makes for a very fascinating hero. And then the danger amps up and Jase goes into major protective mode and I was a goner.

The kind of book you'll want to read cover to cover in one sitting.

Please note: Echo of Danger is not categorized as Christian Fiction (it's published for the general market by HQN) but it is a clean read. Having said that there are some Amish characters who share some plain and simple gospel truths with Deirdre and she does attend church and have contact with a minister.
