Life After

GIVEAWAY

GANSHERT, KATIE
LIFE AFTER

It could have been me.

Snow whirls around an elevated train platform in Chicago. A distracted woman boards the train, takes her seat, and moments later a fiery explosion rips through the frigid air, tearing the car apart in a horrific attack on the city's transit system. One life is spared. Twenty-two are lost.

A year later, surviving Autumn Manning can't remember the day of the bombing and she is tormented by grief -- by guilt. Twelve months of the question constantly echoing: Why? Why? Why? Searching for answers, she haunts the lives of the victims, unable to rest.

Paul Elliott lost his wife in the train bombing and wants to let the dead remain buried, undisturbed, and unable to cause more pain for his loved ones. He wants normalcy for his twelve-year-old daughter and young son, to see them move beyond the heartbreak. But when the Elliotts and Autumn are unexpectedly forced together, he fears she'll bring more wreckage in her wake.

In Life After, Katie Ganshert's most complex and unforgettable novel yet, the stirring prose and authentic characters pose questions of truth, goodness, and ultimate purpose in an unpredictable world.

My Review:

I've been wrestling with how to review this book all week. It defies description. Stunning. Moving. Enthralling. Insert every glowing adjective you can think of and Life After is all of them -- and so much more.

This novel had a profound impact on me. The author led me to view a certain scripture in a new light. Simple but powerful words convicted me to a new depth of understanding. And shortly after finishing this book I was able to share that new conviction with a friend who was really struggling. It affected -- and blessed -- her the same way it had me!

So now you want to know what that scripture is, right? Well, I'm not going to tell you, because it is so wrapped up in the story that I don't want to spoil it for you. This is a novel that you really need to discover for yourself -- one delectable page at a time. It's the kind of book you should dive into without knowing what to expect just so you can experience the wonder of it.

It's heartbreaking and hopeful and ultimately triumphant. If you only take one book recommendation from me this year, make it this one!

Thank you for the review. I truly think I need to read this book right now. I lost my Mom on February 1st and I am having a really difficult time as she was also my best friend.

  2. We all have "whys" in our life and sometimes even fiction can help us get through them.

I have been struggling with whether I wanted to read this book because of the heartbreak I knew was to be found there. I value your opinion so highly though your last sentence convinced me,
"If you only take one book recommendation from me this year, make it this one".
