Gracelaced

GIVEAWAY
SIMONS, RUTH CHOU
GRACELACED

This journey is as perennial as the seasons

GraceLaced is about more than pretty florals and fanciful brushwork -- it's about flourishing. With carefully crafted intention, this beautiful volume of seasonal devotions from artist and author Ruth Chou Simons encourages readers in any circumstances to become deeply rooted in God's faithful promises. GraceLaced extends a soul-stirring invitation to draw close to God while...

RESTING in who He is
REHEARSING the truth He says about you
RESPONDING in faith to those truths
REMEMBERING His provision to sustain you, time and time again

Who we are and who He is never changes, even though everything else rarely stays the same. Let this book point you to truth as you journey through the changing seasons of your heart.

My Review:

My passion is for fiction -- Christian Fiction to be precise -- but from time to time a truly stunning non-fiction title comes up for review and I just cannot resist. GraceLaced is just such a book. The extraordinary artwork and thought provoking words in each devotional have really touched my heart -- inviting me to 'be still and know that I am God.'

This is where I confess to sometimes rushing through devotionals in order to get started with my day. Shameful, I know, but that's the honest truth. However, Gracelaced anchors me in the beauty of its pages and invites me to linger, to ponder, to read just a little bit more.

The artwork draws me in. I love the Arts and there are times when only a painting or a piece of music can bring peace to my troubled soul. I know it's supposed to be enough to know that peace comes through relationship with God but I am frail enough to need that conformation illustrated through the inspiration of an artist or composer or writer. And Ruth Chou Simons's art and calligraphy has brought me renewed conviction.

Thirty-two devotionals are arranged by season and I so love the concept that we are all in different seasons -- can even be stuck in one for a time. In this book Winter is about resting in God's character, Spring, rehearsing the truth, Summer, responding in faith and Fall, remembering God's provisions. Each devotional is independent of the others so they can be read in any order allowing the reader to select what best suits their needs on any given day.

GraceLaced would make an amazing gift (if you can bring yourself to part with it). A unique and inspiring devotional collection which will be cherished for years to come.

  3. Ooh how beautiful! I think every one of us has struggled with the "rushing through the devotions" part of our lives. We need to remember to keep doing them and not give up, while taking our time - thank you for that reminder! lattebooksAThotmailDOTcom

    1. I don't read many devotionals -- I tend to stick with the tried but true -- so glad that I gave this book a try. It's stupendous. Good luck, Kim.

  8. Gracelaced is a truly lovely book. I can see myself sitting with this pondering the words while enjoying the art.

But can we just talk about Breeze Hill for a minute? I finished last night and oh how I didn't want it to end. I can't think of many books that I've read the last 50/60 pages as slowly as in this book and dreaded the end. I love your review! (cue the scary music, lol) That Connor! Whew! Isee in your review your willing to move on to Quinn, not me, he's going to have to do something pretty amazing to make me leave Connor. I'll give him a chance but I don't see it happening. But I digress...

Please enter me for this beautiful devotional. Thanks, and I've enjoyed our little book chat :)

    1. Bwahahaha! Eeeeeeekkkk --- grinning in Reader Euphoria on your behalf! I hear you on not wanting it to end. I kept stopping and thumbing back to previous toe-curling bits to make the read last longer. :-) And Connor vs Quinn...see, the thing is, he made his choice and as much as I'm gutted about it I can't bring myself to come between Connor and Isabella and we all know that if I put my mind to it Connor would be mine in a nanosecond so I'm taking the moral high ground by turning my pent up emotions to Quinn because I'm sure Ciara has nothing on me. (insert diabolical laughter here.)

Oh -- and good luck with this giveaway, Tracey. It's amazing.

    1. At the end of her author's note she says: " I can't wait to share Quinn and Ciara's story with you." -- last line before her signature. I tell you, I read every single word in that book. Every. Single. Word. :-)

    2. I totally missed that page because after the story ended there was a preview for Claiming Mariah. Since I've already read that, I just stopped right there. I wish I knew when the next book comes out. I'm on pins and needles I tell you!

  12. I don't normally read devotionals, as I have my own method of studying scripture, and I haven't really found one that holds my attention. But I love the name Gracelaced....wow....that just draws me in to abide a while in God's word, savoring every word and pondering what the Lord has to say to me. The artwork is beautiful, drawing the eye even more :-) I'd definitely give this a chance!

  15. The illustrations do look stunning. I tried to get some more ideas of the illustrations from Amazon, as well. Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums in art with nature prints my favorite way to use it. I'm thrilled that you spotlighted it here. I'm entering the draw, but it's going in my shopping cart, as well. :-)

    1. You know, with Family Christian book stores going out of business, I don't see these kind of products regularly. We, literally, had a store one block away from our home. Now, I have to go looking for these types of items, specifically. Recommendations are key. Thanks again, Kav.

    2. Our Christian book store kind of went out of business too -- in that it closed down but someone else took over the space and made it more of a discount Christian bookstore. So they have way more sale items than new ones though they'll order in for you. Trouble is they have the fiction on the second floor and the lift has been out of order since they switched ownership so I don't even try to go any more. Plus it was a two bus ride trip. Mind you, my balance is getting better so I might try it again.

And this is definitely the kind of book you'd want to flip through to get a feel for the type of art. Yes, watercolour -- and what I love is that it's mixed with calligraphy. I love word art. So amazing. And did you notice it's half price on Christian Books?

I'm really grateful to have been given the opportunity to review it -- I never would have found it otherwise. Glad I could share about it. Good luck, Terrill.

    3. Thanks for the heads up about CBD. I haven't checked CBD for awhile. Kind of an Amazon junkie. Yet, when I check out CBD, I always find great deals.

    4. One last comment. Promise. :) I just viewed the book on CBD and they had a whole spread of pictures highlighting what's inside. Oh my goodness! It is spectacular. My husband is shopping for a new and specific Bible. I'm thinking I will have to throw this in with his purchase. Absolutely stunning.

    5. So much more exquisite in real life. Honestly, if I could ever bring myself to do something so scandalous I'd buy a second copy and frame some of the art.
