His Promise

GIVEAWAY
GRAY, SHELLEY SHEPARD
HIS PROMISE

Shelley Shepard Gray's latest Christmas novel in her Amish of Hart County series...

It's set to be a white Christmas in Hart County, and Grace King is pet-sitting with only a difficult dachshund for company. Just as she starts to miss the bustle of her large Amish family, Grace runs into a familiar face. Living right next door is John Michael Miller. He's a fireman now, but five years ago he had courted her older sister, then broke her heart. Seeing him again stirs Grace's anger, but also reminds her of deeper feelings she's tried to deny.

John Michael's complicated attraction to Grace still remains. He had walked away all those years ago when he realized he was falling in love with the wrong sister. Now, as suspicious fires are set in their community, Grace dismisses his warnings, and John Michael vows to keep an eye on her. But he can't help wondering if he's reconnected with Grace, only to risk losing her again.

Now all John Michael wants for Christmas is to keep Grace safe, in the hopes that they can have a future together.

My Review:

Hands down one of the most persnickety canine heroes comes in the shape of a dachshund  aptly named Snooze...only when he isn't snoozing he's causing trouble. Grace has never had such a difficult charge. She's pet-sitted just about every type of critter you can imagine -- feathered, furred -- even scaled -- and she's always found a way to bond with every one of them. Until Snooze. He leads her on a merry chase...and right into the arms of a man she had a secret crush on in her teens. The same man her sister was practically engaged to!

It's been five years since John Michael broke things off with Grace's sister. Five years for the King family to nurse their bitterness and pull Grace into their unhealthy resentment. Now, here she is living right next door to John Michael who seems intent on not only seeking forgiveness but renewing their friendship. And doesn't her heart just flutter at that thought? While her stomach gnarls in knots over what her parents will say! I so love a twisted mess of a romance that seems doomed from the start!

Thankfully Snooze brings some great comic relief to the more serious aspects of this story. Along with the angsty romance, there's an arson mystery to solve and a case of elder neglect and Grace is in the middle of it all! I was in a page-turning frenzy right to the end!

What a spectacular send off for the last book in the Amish of Hart County series!

    1. So...maybe there's something breed specific about Snooze 'cause the author modeled him after one of her dogs. lol. I've never known a dachshund personally, but I have a friend or two in the neighbourhood who like a tickle under the chin and silly baby talk. Good luck, Susan!

    1. It was an awesome series -- and six books! Sometimes I wish other series had as many books. But I know this author will offer us something just as delectable in her next series.

  4. This has been such a good series, and I love the Dachshund angle. I used to baby sit for Rudy, the Dachshund, when our then next door neighbors traveled. Such fun dogs! Be they Amish or historical or light mystery, you can't go wrong with a Shelley Shepard Gray book - I always enjoy and appreciate her writing. Thanks!

    1. Another dachshund fan! I don't see many in my area -- we seem to be over run with labradoodles and Bernese Mountain Dogs. lol And huskies. Maybe a little dachshund wouldn't like our bitter winters.

I agree -- you can't go wrong with Shelley Shepard Gray books! Good luck, CC.

    2. They're just such fun and unique little dogs (my mom has have them off and on through out her life). Though I must say we're on a new learning curve around here these days. LOL! I've LOVED the breed every since I was little and my grandmother had one that I claimed and he claimed me right back! LOL! So my mom wanted to get me another one that looked just like him. He was the traditional black and tan coloring. So she found one in desperate need of our TLC. Well as he started to grow we realized he isn't a full dachshund. He's a Jackshund Russell! Never having a Jack Russell before, this little whirlwind has kept us on our toes to say the least! LOL! It's a good thing God created him SO CUTE! BAHAHAHAHA!

    3. Yikes -- Jack Russells are way too clever for their own good! I bet he keeps you on your toes. And laughing all the time! Great doggy medicine.

    4. AMEN! LOL! And yes laughing, at least most of the time! ;) He does tend to get into some trouble as well though! :D

    1. It's pretty unusual for an Amish novel what with the mystery and the hero has an unconventional job and things aren't all sweet and perfect in Hart County. Shelley Shepard Gray's Amish books are a slice of real life -- the characters aren't put up on a pedestal. Good luck, Pam.

Snooze sounds like a riot! Can you imagine a dachshund as the hero? :)

You know I love Amish books and this one sounds perfectly delightful with so many aspects - great storyline, comedy, romance, mystery and a page turner to boot. Can't wait for the opportunity to read it. Greatly appreciate the chance to win a copy.

  11. Super excited for this last book, even if it's a different size than all of the other SSG books in this series and her other Amish stories. I'm going to choose to be bigger than the small size of this paperback. 😑 😂
