Summer by the Tides

GIVEAWAY
HUNTER, DENISE
SUMMER BY THE TIDES

From the bestselling author of The Convenient Groom (now a beloved Hallmark Original movie) comes a heartfelt story of family secrets, forgiveness, and unexpected romance.

Following a painful betrayal, Maddy Monroe's love life is a wreck, and her restaurant career is in shambles. When her grandmother goes missing, she and her estranged sisters converge at the family beach house in Sea Haven, North Carolina. Being with uptight Nora and free-spirited Emma at the place where their family broke apart is a struggle, and undercurrents of jealousy and resentment threaten to pull the sisters under. In the midst of the storm, sparks begin to fly between Maddy and Gram's maddening neighbor, Connor Murphy.

As the sisters pack up the family belongings, memories of idyllic, slow-paced summers are resurrected. But long-buried secrets also come to light as Maddy discovers that all way not as it appeared that last summer in Sea Haven -- nor today in the seemingly perfect lives of her sisters.

As family tensions rise and Connor causes tumult in Maddy's heart, the sisters must find a way to accept each other for the women they've become before the bitterness of the past destroys their hope for a future.

My Review:

"When I can't trust others and I can't trust myself, I can always trust God."

While there is a love story at the heart of this novel, it is surrounded by the complications and strife of family secrets. The romance is toe-curling, though it takes some time to get going....that Maddy is determined to be as ornery and wary and bitter as she can be. And she has a host of good reasons for building that prickly shell she's hiding her heart under. But, there comes a time when a girl has to let go and let God and that's the lesson Maddy has to learn on this summer sojourn.

Good Samaritan Connor is unexpectedly pulled into the Monroe sisters drama when their Gram (his neighbour) goes missing. Love this hero who sports an easy-going beach comber vibe though he's anything but. And love his relationship with his sisters. I was kinda hoping that Lexie might get her own story, but I think Summer by the Tides is a standalone. If anyone knows otherwise, please let me know!

Deep wounds have splintered the Monroe family and it isn't until secrets are shared and past wrongs forgiven that they can forge ahead in loving sister solidarity. Poignant and hopeful -- Summer by the Tides explores the many facets of love and the courage it takes to hold on during the tough times.

  10. The quote from the book speaks volumes. That alone would draw me to this book.

"SUMMER BY THE TIDES" sounds like a wonderful read and I'd expect none less from this author. I love it when a story shows a non-typical family dynamics because they are more "normal" than folks think. Life isn't all roses and neither are families - there are a few thorns and weeds in the best of families. It's how we all learn to live together in harmony in the same flower box that makes us "family". :)

Thank you for your review and the opportunity to win a copy of this book on my TBR list.
