The Shepherd's Bride

GIVEAWAY

DAVIDS, PATRICIA
THE SHEPHERD'S BRIDE

Finding Refuge

Shunned by the Amish community, shepherd Carl King has given up on his dream for a family. Yet when captivating Lizzie Barkman shows up at the sheep farm where he works, Carl sees the wife he once dreamed of. Lizzie is looking for a new start, for herself and her sisters, and discovers Carl to be a kind and gentle man who cares deeply about the Amish way of life. But he is under the bann. Is it possible that this forbidden man holds the key to her family's safety—and the one to her heart?

My Review:

An emotional love story that uncovers some deep issues. Carl in particular is grappling with something that causes him to lose sight of our Saviour's redeeming love. He believes in its existence -- just not for himself. There's one simple little poignant scene...really just a paragraph of one that left me aching for Carl. So, I guess it would be an understatement to say that The Shepherd's Bride definitely engaged me emotionally.

Feisty, determined Lizzie is just what Carl needs to shake his self-exiled world upside down and sideways. But Lizzie has her own problems to worry about - a past to overcome and three sisters she desperately wants to find a safe haven for. And Hope Springs is certainly looking as if it might be the perfect place.

Add in a grouchy grandfather, a multitude of caring neighbours and a hard-working sheepdog and you get an incredible read full of conflict and romance...and, of course, a happy ever after for everyone.

Pine Country Cowboy

GIVEAWAY

KAYE, GLYNNA
PINE COUNTRY COWBOY

No Place Like Home

Abby Diaz longs to reestablish a relationship with her father, so she heads to Canyon Springs, her Arizona hometown, with a painful past she can't share with anyone. But then she's needed to care for her young nephew. The little boy takes a shine to a happy-go-lucky cowboy, a handsome man who's everything Abby can never have. The more time she spends with Brett, the more she realizes he's harboring a heartache of his own. As she works on repairing family ties with her father, Abby knows that opening up to Brett is key to forging a new future…together.

My Review:

Buckle up for an emotionally rocky ride! This cowboy is wrangling some pretty raw emotions and you're going to feel for him. Deeply. Such a sad, but hopeful, story line. Abby is coming to terms with a pretty raw deal as well -- completely not the best time to meet Mr. Right...or wait...maybe it's a God thing. I was rooting for them both as I witnessed their struggles and triumphs on their way to that coveted happily ever after.

Kaye knows how to reach this reader's heart and Pine Country Cowboy totally wrecked havoc on mine. It's the kind of read you want to devour in one sitting because there just isn't a good place to stop. And even when I reached the end, I didn't want it to be over. I just love it when an author creates characters that become living breathing people and my new best friends!

Only a miracle will prove her innocence, but the joining of two lonely hearts may be their saving grace.

My Review:

Squeeeeaaaalllll! I got my hands on an ARC (Advanced Reader's Copy) of Four Weddings and a Kiss and couldn't wait to dive in. What a treat! Better than chocolate...almost. :-)

Four dynamic authors combine their considerable talent to create a fantastic read. I really enjoyed the introductory scene with all the preachers gathered around the campfire trying to out do each other with unlikely matrimony tales. What a clever thread to pull these four different stories together!

All hail to 'true grit' heroines of the wild west. There's nothing as inspiring as the women who helped settled the West. These authors do our pioneer ancestors justice with vivid tales of courage and love.

And the heroes -- as diverse in temperament as they are in looks, each one swoonworthy in his own way. Stubborn, irritable, and sometimes rough around the edges perhaps, but all set my heart a pitter-patter as I read their stories.

I'm amazed at the ability of these authors to deliver such a rich, satisfying read in a novella length story. Each one is pact with action, romance and humour -- a lethal combination! Four Weddings and a Kiss belongs on every TBR pile -- but you'll have to wait until June to get your hands on a copy but I promise, it's worth the wait.

My thanks goes to Mary Connealy who provided me with an advanced reader's copy of this book.

Giveaway Opportunity:

PLEASE NOTE: THIS BOOK DOESN'T RELEASE UNTIL JUNE. YOUR BOOK WILL BE PREORDERED FOR YOU.

Hopeful

GIVEAWAY
 GRAY, SHELLEY SHEPARD
HOPEFUL

In the Amish town of Sugarcreek, love comes in many forms. But will it come at all for Miriam?

Miriam Zehr has worked at the Sugarcreek Inn longer than she cares to admit. The restaurant is a favorite of town residents as well as the many tourists who come to taste the famous Amish fare. Though she always tries to have a smile for every customer, deep down Miriam knows something’s missing: a family of her own.

Miriam has never felt particularly beautiful, especially because she’s always been a bit heavier than other girls her age. When Junior, the man she’s pined for all her life, suddenly seeks her out, she’s thrilled to be noticed . . . until she realizes he’s only asking her to help get the attention of Mary Kathryn Hershberger, her pretty friend.

If Miriam helps Junior court Mary Kathryn, she’ll get to spend a lot of time with him, but she might lose him in the process. Are these few stolen moments worth a lifetime of sacrifice? Is Miriam right to even hope for the life she dreams of?

My Review:

Such a touching, sweet love story that pulled at my heart. The title is so appropriate...and doesn't Miriam look hopeful on that front cover? And it's not only Miriam who is hoping for something more -- other characters face seemingly hopeless situations that turn around by the end of the book. I love the way Gray has followed this theme throughout her story. She shares the grittiness of life but softens it with the promise of hope in so many ways. The key though, is in how the characters face their dilemmas. It is their choices that herald in the new season of hope in their lives. A profound truth that I am taking away from this inspiring read.

Lancaster County Target

GIVEAWAY

WILKINSON, KIT
LANCASTER COUNTY TARGET

A KILLER IN AMISH COUNTRY

Down a deserted hospital corridor, nurse Abby Miller witnesses a patient's shocking murder. When the masked killer spots her, she's overpowered—and left for dead. Handsome doctor Blake Jamison vows to keep her safe while investigating the mysterious patient's death. But when he and Abby uncover a connection between the murder and the long-held secret of his adoption and possible Amish birth, the killer begins targeting them both. Amish-born Abby slowly learns to trust Blake with her life. But it may be too late to protect her heart from the high-society doctor who is sure to leave her behind.

My Review:

From the chilling opening to the breathless conclusion, Lancaster County Target is one gripping read. Never mind nail-biting -- you won't have any fingertips left after reading this great Love Inspired Suspense. Honestly, Wilkinson barely gives her readers pause to draw a deep breath before she plunges them into another harrowing scene. Talk about a jumpy read. I was like, "Ack!" "Noooo!" "Are you crazy, don't leave her alone!" "Wait...look at the clues, going in there is soooo not a good idea." "Eeeeeeek!| "Told you." My nerves are pretty much shot now and it's hard to type using your knuckles. :-) Definitely a stellar read (in case you weren't sure if I liked it or not.)

The Husband Campaign

GIVEAWAY

SCOTT, REGINA
THE HUSBAND CAMPAIGN

A Marriage of Necessity

The moment John, Lord Hascot, encounters a young woman sheltering in his abandoned stable, his future is sealed. To prevent scandal—and protect Lady Amelia Jacoby from her parents' ire—he must propose. John's ability to trust vanished when his former love married his twin brother. Yet he offers Amelia everything she could want—except affection.

Amelia sees John's true nature shine through when he cares for his horses. But the brooding aristocrat seems determined to keep her at arm's length. Little by little Amelia will turn Hollyoak Farm into a home, but can she turn a marriage of convenience into a joyful union?

The Master Matchmakers: Wedding bells will ring when downstairs servants play Cupid for upstairs aristocracy

My Review:

I've really enjoyed this series and am sad to see it end. Love the Regency time period and the conniving downstairs matchmakers and all the havoc that ensues. :-)

Once again Scott swept me back to Austen's England and I so enjoyed the journey. Amelia and John's romance has become one of my favourite 'marriage of convenience' stories. It is a tender love story punctuated with clever wit that still has me smiling.

I loved Amelia's gentle wooing of her husband. Poor John didn't stand a chance though he gave it a valiant effort. His ability to finally develop trust in his new wife makes for a tender inspirational thread. And Scott has thrown in a diabolical plot complete with a few ne'er do wells that will set your teeth on edge.

A definite must read for Regency romance lovers.

Pearl of Great Price

GIVEAWAY

JOHNSON, MYRA
PEARL OF GREAT PRICE

An abandoned Arkansas lake resort holds the key to a young woman’s past . . . and her future.

Raised by her grandfather after her mother died, flea market manager Julie Pearl Stiles promised herself she’d postpone the search for her absentee father until the truth could no longer hurt Grandpa. Then one crazy June day ushers in a series of discoveries that threaten to turn Julie’s peaceful, small-town life upside down. Her encounter with Little Rock socialite Renata Channing seems more than coincidental, but equally disconcerting is her grandfather’s immediate dislike for real estate entrepreneur Micah Hobart.

Haunted by a devastating childhood mistake, Micah turned his back on God a long time ago, but success has proven a poor substitute for the inner peace he craves. Everything changes when he’s blindsided by the outspoken flea market manager who quickly captures his heart.

Renata Channing has devoted her life and ample bank account to helping underprivileged children. But no amount of philanthropy can blot out the emotional abuse she endured at the hands of a mentally ill mother, and all the money in the world won’t restore the precious “pearl” lost twenty-five years ago in the depths of Lake Hamilton.

As Julie is drawn deeper into the tragic past Micah and Renata share, she finds herself questioning everything she’s ever believed about herself, her family, and her future.

My Review:

A compulsive read! I honestly couldn't put this book down.

I loved the first person point of view. I know that it isn't always popular with readers but I love the way it gets me inside Julie's head in particular. Her words just flowed into me until I felt like I was living her life.

And there's a bit of a mystery...well, a lot of a mystery, actually. I loved the way it is slowly revealed between past and present scenes. It was an excruciating wait to uncover everything and just when I thought I had...BAM...the author sucker punched me in the last chapter!!!! But it was brilliant because the whole story is about celebrating who you are and how you got there; looking ahead to the future, not behind at the past. It's about being rooted in relationships that can build you up or tear you down. It's about how the choices we make determine the life we live. Powerful stuff and Johnson tells the story so well.

A stunning read that will linger with me for a long time to come.

Love Comes Calling

GIVEAWAY

MITCHELL, SIRI
LOVE COMES CALLING

A girl with the best of intentions.
A heart set on Hollywood.
An empty pocketbook.
That's all it takes for Ellis Eton to find herself working as a telephone operator for a look-alike friend. For Ellis, this job will provide not only acting practice but the funds to get her a start in the movies. She's tired of always being a disappointment to her traditional Boston family, and though she can't deny the way he makes her head spin, she knows she's not good enough for Griffin Phillips, either. It's simple: avoid Griff's attentions, work, and get paid. But in typical Ellis fashion, her simple plan spirals out of control when she overhears a menacing phone call...with her very own Griff as the target.

With an endearing heroine as her lead, Siri Mitchell takes readers on a madcap tale of love and discovering one's true desires!

My Review:

Get ready to take a  crazy, madcap ride into the mind of one of the most engaging heroines in Christian fiction. The only way to do Ellis justice was to write her exploits in first person POV and Mitchell excels at this. Honestly, I was dizzy at times trying to keep up with all the ideas ping-ponging around Ellis's brain cells. Add in a sinister suspense thread and a besotted boy-next-door hero and you get sublime chaos. Brilliantly written. A fun read made all the more poignant because of the underlying message of self acceptance.

Perilous Waters

GIVEAWAY

ORCHARD, SANDRA
PERILOUS WATERS

For FBI agent Sam Steele, there’s no room for error or emotions on his latest undercover assignment. Getting close to gallery owner Jennifer Robbins while on an Alaskan cruise is the only way to catch her dealing stolen art. Out on the icy seas, Jen suddenly goes from suspect to victim when she’s targeted by a deadly enemy. And Sam’s mission goes from investigating an art crime to protecting the woman who’s begun to melt his heart. As danger looms closer, he’ll do anything to save her life—even if it costs him his own.

My Review:

Another edge-of-your-seat read from one of my fave romantic suspense authors. Loved the unique setting -- an Alaskan cruise ship. And the art theft angle is something I haven't read much of before. Both made for a refreshing read.

Orchard did a great job of inventing creative (and sinister) ways the enemy used to target poor Jen. And the whole case is so muddied with fact and fiction that I was constantly compiling theories and tossing them just as quickly. A great action-packed ending held me riveted and left me jaw droppingly gobsmacked!.  :-)

I am so loving the Love Inspired Suspense line and this book is exactly the reason why!

A Heart's Rebellion : a Regency Romance

GIVEAWAY

AXTELL, RUTH
A HEART'S REBELLION : A REGENCY ROMANCE

Dutiful Jessamine Barry is tired of waiting patiently for a man to decide her future. So even though Lancelot Marfleet, second son of an aristocrat, is taking an interest in her during the London season, she refuses to consider him as a suitor. Instead, she's ready to take fashionable society by storm--and finds a rakish young man all too willing to help her do it. When things go too far, Jessamine will learn that the man who is faithful through thick and thin is more worthy than the one who speaks pretty words. But will her disgrace keep Lance from reconsidering her as a wife? And when tragedy strikes and Lance becomes his father's heir and a titled gentleman, will he think she only wants him now because of his title?

My Review:

Superb Regency romance! Axtell catapulted me back to a Regency drawing room with her incredible historical voice. I just had to savour every word in order to enjoy my reading experience to the fullest. From dialogue to the detailed customs of the early 1800s I was in a near reader swoon most of the book! As captivating as reading about that time period is though, I'd have made a horrible Regency miss. Argh to the restrictions! What a futile outlook for young women of that time. And it's that subject that Axtell addresses in her latest historical novel.

At first Jessamine seemed too shallow for me - especially for a heroine. But as I read I became steeped in the mores of the time and began to understand her better. Honestly, if your only hope for a future is to make a good marriage and that's all that everyone around you focuses on what are to do when your love is betrayed? Rebellion that's what. And wait -- what if it wasn't really love but a girlish infatuation that coloured every aspect of your life for years? Well -- you can imagine the churning emotions.

There were times I just wanted to shake Jessamine and times I wanted to do bodily harm to a certain gentleman. And times when I screamed warnings (only naturally they went unheeded causing me no end of reader angst) so you might say I found this book an emotional roller coaster of a read. :-)

If you love Regency romance you are going to love this book!!!

Oh -- and bonus for Moonlight Masquerade fans -- you'll be able to get reacquainted with a number of characters though A Heart's Rebellion reads fine as a standalone.

GIVEAWAY

ATKINS, NARELLE
FALLING FOR THE FARMER

KATE LAWSON IS A RUNAWAY BRIDEAnd she's incredibly grateful when Jack Bradley offers her a job on his apple farm. Working side by side in the orchards with her best friend's brother seems like the perfect way to get over her disastrous engagement. Until Kate finds herself falling hard for the handsome farmer.

Jack Bradley knows city-girl Kate isn't here to stay. Yet suddenly he's imagining a life with her in the country. When Kate considers going back to the city, can Jack find a way to show her that her real home is here on the farm, by his side?

My Review:

Another amazing debut novel! And I love the Australian setting. Kudos to Harlequin for finally venturing out of North America in a Christian contemporary romance. Atkins writes a universal love story that can be enjoyed by any reader, but I loved the subtle nods to another country and culture.

This sweet romance features a runaway bride and I loved the action-packed opening. It really got my attention. Also loved how the author gradually reveals the reason behind Kate's flight by slow degrees throughout the story. Really looking forward to Atkins next release which is coming out in May. I love finding new fave authors...especially when they are prolific writers!

Death by the Book

GIVEAWAY

DEERING, JULIANNA
DEATH BY THE BOOK

Drew Farthering wanted nothing more than to end the summer of 1932 with the announcement of his engagement. Instead, he finds himself caught up in another mysterious case when the family solicitor is found murdered, an antique hatpin with a cryptic message, Advice to Jack, piercing his chest.

Evidence of secret meetings and a young girl's tearful confession point to the victim's double life, but what does the solicitor's murder have to do with the murder of a physician on the local golf course? Nothing, it would seem--except for another puzzling note, affixed with a similar-looking bloodied hatpin.

Soon the police make an arrest in connection with the murders, but Drew isn't at all certain they have the right suspect in custody. And why does his investigation seem to be drawing him closer and closer to home?

My Review:

Hardy Boys Meet Sherlock Holmes in 1930s. Campy and fun -- full of droll wit and intrepid mystery along with a light romance. Following the clues and trying to solve the case before  Drew does kept me on my toes. And a few unexpected twists and turns made sure I was just as surprised as poor Drew! Great sequel to the first book in the series, Rules of Murder. Death by the Book reads well as a standalone, though it does refer briefly to the previous mystery. I think the books read best in order.

The Guardian's Promise

GIVEAWAY

RICH, CHRISTINA
THE GUARDIAN'S PROMISE

A Kingdom in Jeopardy

An evil queen and her royal guards will stop at nothing to find and kill the rightful heir to the throne of Judah. When their pursuit leads them to Mira's village, only her father's bond servant, Ari, a man shrouded in secrets, can keep Mira safe.

Abandoning his life as a temple guard and becoming an indentured servant was the only way Ari could protect young Joash, the true King of Judah, from Queen Athaliah. But his sacred duty prevents him from confessing his feelings for his master's daughter. With the future of their nation on the line, Ari and Mira will risk everything to save their people.

My Review:

I don't read biblical fiction. It's just not a time period that interests me when it comes to romance but I'd heard of Christina Rich around cyberspace and decided to take a risk. Oh my goodness, but I'm so glad I did. What an astounding debut novel! Toe-curling, swoonworthy romance, diabolical intrigue, intense action and a solid inspirational thread made this an awesome read. Rich has a beautiful voice. Her words evoke rich images that really enhance the read. I devoured this book in a day.  A stunning debut novel.
