A STITCH AND A PRAYER
The frontier life isn’t easy—especially when you’re alone and with child. After the Klondike gold rush in 1897, Florence Harms and her young husband, Will, set about building a new life and a new home in the Northwest woods—even though the lingering effects of illness have left Florence weak and vulnerable. When a stranger comes knocking, Florence suddenly senses a restlessness in Will’s spirit that she has never seen before. Then he suddenly departs, leaving only a short note promising to return before their baby’s birth. As worry and doubt claw at Florence’s heart, she finds solace in a Tree of Life quilt. Will her labor of love—and faith in God—sustain her as she waits to see her beloved once again?
My Review:
A glimpse back in time details the gritty reality of life for a pioneer woman. Florence's story is made all the more poignant by a chronic illness that is debilitating even with today's medicine. This is a heartwarming tale that celebrates faith in family, friends and a loving Father in Heaven who sees us through the good times and the bad.
I would like to note, that as with other reviewers, I thought A Stitch and a Prayer must be part of a continuous series because so much of the story line and secondary characters weren't fleshed out enough. I just assumed that their stories had been part of the first book but that doesn't seem to be the case. For that reason, I floundered a bit at the beginning, trying to put all the pieces together and left me discombobulated a time or two.
*My thanks to the publisher and LitFuse for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
