Love's Sure Dawn

GIVEAWAY

RAWLINGS, NAOMI
LOVE'S SURE DAWN

No matter how hard she tries to help, Rebekah Cummings always ends up causing more problems than she solves. This time, though, things will be different. She'll find a way to pay her family's debts, even if doing so requires leaving Eagle Harbor. Maybe then they'll start treating her as a capable woman who makes her own choices.

Gilbert Sinclair is going to marry an heiress. With his latest business venture sunk at the bottom of Lake Superior, he needs money to replace the steamship he lost, so he heads to Chicago where his father's business connections should land him a suitable wife. Like most things in his meticulously planned life, everything goes as expected—until he discovers Rebekah Cummings working as the new cook on his ship.

Rebekah well remembers the pain she endured the last time she tried trusting Gilbert, and Gilbert can't afford to pursue the love of a working class woman. But they can't stop the forgotten feelings swirling between them—or ignore the sacrifices they'd both have to make for a future together.

My Review:

Rawling writes some of the best sparring scenes I've ever read. And Rebekah and Gilbert have more than their fair share of them in Love's Sure Dawn. But then, this author isn't known for being kind to her heroes and heroines which is fine by me since it makes for a compelling (and angsty) read.

Fans of the Eagle Harbor series will already be acquainted with Rebekah and Gilbert from the previous two books. No worries if you haven't read the first two stories because this one also reads well as a standalone, though I have to admit to being particularly eager for this romance.

Rebekah is an interesting character. A tomboy way past the age when running wild is acceptable, she's gotten away with it in the small lakeside community. But though she's as adventurous and courageous as her brothers, she chafes at the protective restrictions they place upon her. So what's a stifled little sister to do? Take matters into her own hands. of course and that leads to trouble. Especially for Gilbert.

Cue humour and adventure and a few heart-stirring situations that bring these two together in a clash of wills and long buried desire. A feisty, toe-curling romance that will keep you hooked right to the very end.

My thanks to the author for providing me with a review copy of this book.

  9. I have enjoyed reading Naomi Rawlings' other books, so would like to read this one also. Her Love Inspired Historicals set in France during the French Revolution were very interesting as well as romantic.

  10. Nice review Kav! I still wasn't so sure about Gilbert even after the last book. Glad Naomi changed my mind about him. Once I understood some of his background, he started making sense. And that ending was delightfully surprising, just perfect in my humble opinion! I'm also hoping she changed your mind about Eagle Harbor. :-) She really does do a bang-up job on her books! The angsty element adds some fun layers too! Glad to see you enjoyed this every bit as much as I did .
Good luck everyone who enters, you'll find this a delightful read & everything true about the review here! Especially if you like your characters a bit on the feisty side ;-)

    1. I know -- Gilbert was not my idea of hero material at the beginning of the series but I loved how the author developed him into one. And yes, his backstory explains some things -- and yet deep his core he's always been a good guy -- just misunderstood. :-)

  12. Hi everyone, thanks for reviewing Love's Sure Dawn, Kav, and for doing the giveaway! For those of you who liked my French novels better than my Eagle Harbor stories, yes, the series are different in that there's a thread of suspense in my French novels. The heroine and heroes' lives are in danger in all three stories, and that's not the case for my Eagle Harbor novels. I have at least three more French books swirling around in my head, but my publisher owns the rights to the first three novels, and so I can't continue the series at this time.

It will be at least three years before there's even a possibility of more French books from me, and that's an estimate on the low end. Five to ten years is far more likely. Sorry. I wish I could give you different news because I really love that French series and would like to continue it at some point. :-(

    1. I wouldn't say I love the French series more than the Eagle Harbour series -- I tend to love anything you write. :-) I did enjoy the French setting though -- I like to do a little armchair traveling when I read and it's fun to visit different countries through a character's eyes.

    2. French books?? Now I'm intrigued, if they are even half as good as your Eagle Harbor ones then I know I would love them too! I do have two of your LIH titles on my shelf, "The Wyoming Heir" & "Falling for the Enemy". Since I've already experienced your writing, I'm confident they'll be just as good. In my opinion, a person can't go wrong with anything you write :-) Now I'm going to have to look for those French books, I didn't see them listed on Amazon. You do realize my TBR pile continues to grow with each day....Haha! But I love it.

    3. Trixi, Falling for the Enemy is the third in the books set in France. The first two are Sanctuary for a Lady and The Soldier's Secrets. They are Love Inspired Historical and I believe that they are having a sale on right now if you go to Harlequin. Their back list is all 1.99 for ebooks. I think they are celebrating their fifth anniversary of ebook publishing. Anyway, check it out. Think the sale is on until the end of next week.

    4. Trixi! You're a perfect example of why I'm not writing the Belanger Family Saga for Love Inspired Historical anymore. They wouldn't connect the books as a series--never mind that all the characters were related--and they wouldn't release the series books close together. I only have a handful of readers that have been following me from the beginning that are aware of how the books fit together. And, honestly, at this point I'm not even really telling people about those books because I need for them to not sell if I'm going to get my rights back to them. It's sad, I know, but it's the way publishing works.

And yes, I have some readers who really, really like my Belanger Family books more than my Eagle Harbor ones, but by and large, the majority favor the Eagle Harbor ones. They have somewhat different flavors, but I think my writing for both series is similar enough that a lot of people enjoy both series--like Kav. :-D

Here's a link to the Belanger Family Saga page on my website. It orders the books for you. And I'll also say that the second book in the series is another one where I redeemed an unlikable character from the previous story. http://naomirawlings.com/naomis-books/the-belanger-family-saga/

    2. I love Sanctuary for a Lady too, Kav! :-) And yes, Love Inspired just had a big sale on backlist books. Because I don't want people buying them so that I get the rights back, I didn't really announce the sale that much... or at all.
