Night Fall

GIVEAWAY

SLEEMAN, SUSAN
NIGHT FALL

She faces dangerous situations all the time...

Olympic downhill skier, Harper Young, knows what it's like look danger in the face. After all, she does it every time she races down a ski slope. She's fine with that danger and even excels under the pressure, winning Olympic gold. And as a governor's daughter, she's familiar with receiving threats from the general public. But when a stalker turns his sights on Harper, she possesses zero skills to protect herself.

But she has no idea what lurks in the shadows.

Former Navy SEAL and ATF agent, Aiden Byrd of Nighthawk Security is well versed in protection skills and knows the dangers she faces. Problem is, there's an instant attraction between Aiden has to fight hard to remain professional. As the stalker grows bolder and tries and to end Harper's life, Aiden's only hope in keeping her safe to deny his feelings. Something that borders on impossible.

My Review:

Eeep!!! A new series by one of my absolute favourite suspense authors!!!! And, wowsers, does Sleeman deliver in this enthralling, hair-raising and romantical first book in the Nighthawk Security series. There's so much to love that I'm a hyperventilating smitten mess so I'm just gonna lay it all out in point form for you.

Why this is my new favourite romantic suspense series:

There are FIVE Byrd brothers! (Excuse me while I breathe into a paper bag...I'm feeling a tad light-headed.) That's because these guys are exactly the kind of hero I want to meet in the pages of a book. Protective is in their DNA and they all have unique skills gleaned from military and law enforcement experience. And now they've banded together to open their very own security agency. Eeeep!!! You know what that means, right? They each get to star in their own romantic suspense! Which means lots of Byrd brother shenanigans ahead of us as well as copious toe-curls. :-)

Seriously, creating a team and showcasing their strengths and weaknesses as well as creating the unique camaraderie of a brotherhood is what this author excels at. I loved every blessed second -- the verbal sparring, the jokes, the serious tell-it-like-it-is moments. And the way that we're introduced to each brother. I'm already looking forward to Brendan's story...but it's not out in audible yet. Grrrrrrrrr.

The suspense is an intricate pattern of twists and turns and includes some exciting crossover with Sleeman's previous series. I'm proud to say my armchair sleuthing paid off...sort of. :-)

And then there's the romance. Squeep! Romantical tension pulled so taut there were times I couldn't catch my breath. Absolutely love that Aiden and Harper acknowledge the attraction up front. I had a love/hate relationship with their decision to be professional and not act on it. Hence the incredible tension because both are paragons of self-discipline thanks to their chosen professions, but, oh-la-la, the thoughts we are party to!

And speaking about professions -- how refreshing to have a high performing athlete heroine. Love her drive and dedication and the complications it presents to a relationship.

I listened to the audible edition narrated by Whitney Dykhouse who did a fantastic job of bringing these characters to life. I'm definitely committed to enjoying the rest of the series in audible format.
