Rocky Mountain Vendetta

GIVEAWAY

CHOATE, JANE M.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN VENDETTA

On the run in the Rockies with a deadly storm looming...

With her husband's killer released from prison, former US Marshal Brianna Thomas's fake identity is no longer enough to protect her and her little girl. The man's dead set on killing anyone involved in his arrest, and the only person Brianna can trust is her late husband's partner, ex-marshal Gideon Stratham. Snowbound in the Rockies, she and Gideon must work together to survive the storm and a convict's vengeance.

My Review:

Classic action-packed, danger-fuelled romantic suspense that begins on a tense note and doesn't let up until the very end. An oxygen tank is a necessary accoutrement for this read. And keep some comfort chocolate on hand too.

Love that Brianna and Gideon have a history -- not in a romantic sense -- but as friendly colleagues. They already know enough about each other to make their immediate attraction plausible. There's some great dialogue -- a nice balance between teasing banter and professional respect. These two trust each other and I liked the way they led by turns throughout the story. Brianna can clearly hold her own and Gideon appreciates her ability to do so.

And what's a flight from danger without toting along a precocious child and her cat? Ruthie provides some great comic relief moments as well as some 'awwww' ones as she bonds with Gideon. And ups the terror factor because -- hellllooo, kid in the back seat of the car! My latent Mama Bear tendencies sprang to life in this read.

If you like your suspense fast and furious, this is definitely the page-turner for you.

Lethal Corruption

GIVEAWAY

CHOATE, JANE M.

LETHAL CORRUPTION

Uncovering dangerous secrets could bury them both for good.

Nothing will stop deputy district attorney Shannon DeFord from prosecuting the biggest case of her career -- not even a warning at knifepoint. Unsure of who to trust, she accepts security expert Rafe Zuniga's daily protection. But when the threats turn deadly, they both know this is more than a typical criminal trial. Together, can they unravel a conspiracy or will the truth get them killed?

My Review:

I think I might have turned permanently blue from holding my breath all through this read. Tons of action including choreographed fight scenes that had me ducking and rolling right along with Rafe and Shannon! And the intricate suspense adds even more edge-of-your-seat stuff. Love that Shannon is a crusader on the side of justice and Choate made me feel all the exasperation and despair and anger over what these unscrupulous people are doing to innocent, hardworking folks. I so love it when the smarmy, corrupt guys get their comeuppance in the end though. That made my heart happy. :-)

And so did Rafe, by the way. He's got taciturn, brooding hero down pat, but with glimmers of humour. The last thing he wants to do is play bodyguard to the DDA, especially when he meets her and can't help but be intrigued. I do so love a reluctant love interest. :-) And this ex-military man is full of surprises! Loved peeling back the layers of his back story.

Also love the pithy lines of dialogue and surprise bursts of humour sprinkled throughout this intense story. Like this:

"Rafe decided he should put in for hazard pay. Shopping was a blood sport... Battle-hardened soldiers who had faced the enemy without flinching would have cowered at the hordes of women who attacked the sales racks in a fevered frenzy." (p 51)

Bwahahahaha!

Another riveting romantic suspense from Jane M. Choate.

Secrets From the Past

GIVEAWAY

CHOATE, JANE M.
SECRETS FROM THE PAST

A bus crash almost killed him...now someone's come back to finish the job

Someone's taking out survivors of a school bus crush from fifteen years ago, and former Delta soldier Liam McKenzie's next on the list. Determined to figure out who is killing his old classmates, the single father enlists the help of security operative Paige Walker, whose brother died in the original crash. But digging up old secrets could prove lethal for them both.

My Review:

Whoa -- this is one frenetic read! Love the heart-stopping beginning and continued mix of relentless danger and investigative work. Liam and Paige have all the pieces of the puzzle, they just can't quite get them to all fit together...and neither could I!

I was wracking my brain trying to connect the dots which made this the perfect kind of armchair sleuthing read. Especially since I could dodge bullets and mayhem from the cushy confines of my plush haven. Might have suffered a few paper cuts from frantic page-turning though. :-)

A suspense that makes you think and a romance that makes you swoon all wrapped up with a poignant faith thread. I call that sweet perfection!

Stolen Child

GIVEAWAY
CHOATE, JANE M.
STOLEN CHILD

A little girl taken...and a murderer on the loose

Nothing will stop army ranger Grey Nighthorse from finding his abducted daughter -- except maybe whoever is trying to kill him. hiring former FBI agent Rachel Martin is his best shot at tracking down the kidnappers and staying alive. But Rachel failed to save a child before. Can she risk everything again to rescue Grey's little girl...and perhaps become part of the family she's trying to reunite?

My Review:

What a heart-in-throat page-turner of a read! A twisted tale of murder and betrayal with an impossible to track villain who is bent on destruction. But just who is this villain and what exactly is his end game? You'll have to race-read your way to the volatile end to find out.

Loved the dynamics between Rachel and Grey. She's as tough as the army ranger and just as good at kick-butt tactics when it comes to facing off with criminals. He respects her talent and professionalism, but he also sees through the chinks in the wall she's built around her heart. Happy toe-curling sighs ensued from this reader, even as I dodged bullets right along with this dynamic duo.

An intense, breath-snatching romantic suspense.

Inherited Threat

GIVEAWAY
CHOATE, JANE M.
INHERITED THREAT

Hazardous Legacy...
Her mother's mistakes have made her a target.

After her estranged mother is killed by a crime syndicate, army ranger Laurel Landry knows she's next...and she needs help from ex-ranger turned bodyguard Mace Ransom. While Mace is used to doing things his way, their best chance of staying alive is relying on each other. Their enemies aren't backing down...but together Laurel and Mace might be able to stop them for good.

My Review:

Whoa -- what an adrenaline rush of a read! Tons of action, kick-butt fight scenes where the heroine...well...kicks butt! lol Laurel is no shrinking violet. She's as trained as Mace, his equal in combat and then some. Love her strength and sense of duty and honor. And her steadfast faith. "The Lord had never let her down. Sometimes though He allowed her to work things out on her own." (p 74)

And that Mace! Happy sigh. Laurel sees right into the heart of the man. "That was the kind of man he was, strong without being hard, gentle without being weak." (p 96) And here's me melting into a puddle. :-) Until he goes all bossy and then he's just annoying. lol

Love the tie-in with earlier books by this author though there's no indication that Inherited Threat is part of a series. It reads fine as a standalone but protagonists from previous stories are featured as secondary characters in this one which makes it extra fun for Jane M. Choate's avid readers.

High-Risk Investigation

GIVEAWAY
CHOATE, JANE M.
HIGH-RISK INVESTIGATION

Fatal Truth

Finishing the investigation that got her parents killed is reporter Scout McAdams's top priority -- even with someone threatening her life if she doesn't drop it. But she'll reluctantly accept former army ranger Nicco Santonni as her bodyguard...on one condition. He can't try to stop her from uncovering the truth her true-crime writer mother was searching for, despite the danger. Though the pretty -- and stubborn -- journalist may not want a bodyguard, Nicco knows she needs one, and he aims to shadow Scout's every move. But while Nicco may use every tactic to keep the killers at bay, when the truth proves deadlier than they ever imagined, will they live to tell the tale?

My Review:

I enjoyed the page-turning intensity of this romantic suspense. High-risk investigation indeed. Scout  doesn't have an inkling of what she's walking into when she won't give up investigating her parents' murder. Danger is stalking her...and so is Nicco Santonni but for all the right reasons. Being a bodyguard in the shadows has it's difficulties -- especially when his unsuspecting client keeps putting herself in dangerous situations.

And the romance -- clear off your fainting couch, readers. It heats up after the initial spark ignites at their high-action introduction and keeps on sizzling ever after. These two are definitely made for each other...if they can stay alive long enough to enjoy their new found love.

Jane M. Choate is definitely on my short list of 'must buy' romantic suspense writers.

The Littlest Witness

GIVEAWAY

CHOATE, JANE M.
THE LITTLEST WITNESS

To protect a child...

When Delta Force soldier Caleb Judd's brother and sister-in-law are murdered, the killers turn their attention on his orphaned nephew. Caleb's new mission: protect little Tommy—who hasn't said a word since witnessing his parents' deaths—and figure out who's targeting his family. He needs help, and security expert Shelley Rabb is perfect for the job. But Caleb's used to calling the shots, not taking orders…even when they come from a beautiful former Secret Service agent. Shelley knows firsthand what can happen when business becomes personal, so she vows not to get too close to Caleb and his nephew. She will risk her life to make sure they're safe, but will that mean risking her heart, too.

My Review:

I fell for Caleb fast and hard. Reeling from grief, he can barely keep a step ahead of the assassins pursuing his nephew. This hero is all hard edges, gruff and growly, used to giving orders, making plans. The tug of war between Caleb and Shelley, the protective detail a Delta buddy has set him up with, is really fun to read. There's this charged give and take between the two that crackles with an undercurrent of awareness that kept my romance loving heart doing happy somersaults. But the chase is on and some really great choreographed action scenes had me wincing. An intense, page-turning read.

Keeping Watch

GIVEAWAY

CHOATE, JANE M.
KEEPING WATCH

Around-the-clock protector

Despite the threats against her life, Danielle Barclay thinks having a bodyguard is unnecessary. Or at least that's what she tells herself before meeting Jake Rabb. A former Delta Force soldier, Jake is used to rope-lining from helicopters into enemy territory—not following around a senator's daughter. The lovely deputy district attorney is as strong-willed as she is brave, especially when the escalating danger assures Jake that her stalker means business. As the attacks become personal, Danielle finally puts her trust—and her feelings—on the line with her defender. But how will Jake protect her if the stalker is closer than they think?

My Review:

An intense plot kept me riveted. I read Keeping Watch in one sitting. There just wasn't a good place to stop. Every time I thought the author gave me some breathing room...well, she didn't. :-) Not that I'm complaining! If the suspense didn't have me on tenterhooks, the romance did. Loved the way Choate developed Jack and Dani's romance. From a stuttering start to a soul stirring conclusion. And there's a wonderful inspirational thread that added an extra dimension to the read.
