His Montana Homecoming

GIVEAWAY

MINDER, JENNA
HER MONTANA HOMECOMING

Snowbound with a millionaire

Faith Shaw can't wait for another hometown Thanksgiving with the good people of Jasper Gulch. Turkey, mashed potatoes, apple pie—and this year's centennial celebration. Yet there's one person who isn't happy to be there: Dale Massey, the Shaw family's reluctant houseguest. When a winter storm strands the big-city millionaire in Montana, he is far from pleased. But the mayor's daughter suspects Dale's all-business attitude is masking a deeper hurt. Faith can't help but feel he was sent to Jasper Gulch for a reason. Can an old-fashioned girl and some holiday tradition help bring  his weary heart home?

Big Sky Centenial: A small town rich in history…and love

My Review:

A brilliant read because....drum roll please...I didn't like the hero in the beginning. Seriously. No fireworks. Not a smidgen of a swoon. In fact, if I'd read his profile on an online dating website I would have run away screaming. Okay -- maybe not that drastic, but I wouldn't have been interested. And I wouldn't have picked him for Faith Shaw. So why is this a brilliant read? Because the author slowly peels away the posh façade that Dale is hiding behind so her readers get to see the gem of the man beneath. Wow! Toe-curling character development turned Dale Massey into one of my favourite fictional heroes. And Faith knew he was worth it all along. Clever woman. Loved the way their relationship developed, along with more hijinks and surprises and familiar faces in Jasper Gulch. You don't need to have read the other books in the Big Sky Centennial series, but if you have you'll feel like you've come home when you read His Montana Homecoming.

High Country Holiday

GIVEAWAY

KAYE, GLYNNA
HIGH COUNTRY HOLIDAY

When Cody Hawk returns to Canyon Springs, Arizona, to make peace with his ailing  father, his bad-boy reputation is still intact. So is his love for the woman he was  forced to leave behind. But the privileged Paris Perslow is still off-limits. When  Paris needs his help with the annual holiday gala, Cody braves the town's disapproving glances for a second chance with his first love. Years ago Cody promised he'd return for her. But with everyone and everything against them, what will it take to prove to Paris that his love is the perfect gift?

My Review:

This novel has all the elements of a classically good Christmas story. A hero who can't live down his family's past and a small town with a long collective memory.  A heroine trying too hard to please everyone around her -- to the point that she almost loses hope of her own dreams for the future. Oh, and she's part of the town's elite -- a stark contrast to the hero's 'trailer park' roots. Talk about ranking the angstometer into overload! A captivating story that pulled at my heart strings. I was alternating between swooning in romantic euphoria and fuming in outrage over small-minded prejudice.  Gobbled this one up in an afternoon.

Betrayed Hearts

GIVEAWAY

MASON, SUSAN ANNE
BETRAYED HEARTS

Lily Draper comes to Rainbow Falls in search of her biological sister, the only blood relative she has left. Emotionally scarred by her preacher father, Lily avoids religion at all cost. Her new landlord, an aspiring minister, soon has her questioning her views. Can she learn to trust Nick's heart or will her sordid past destroy their love?

Nick Logan hopes to take over for the retiring minister who has groomed Nick for the job. But Reverend Ted seems to feel the position requires Nick to marry an upstanding woman, namely Ted’s niece. When Nick finds himself falling in love with Lily Draper, the woman least likely to become a minister's wife, his problems escalate. And when Reverend Ted gives him an ultimatum, Nick faces an impossible choice.

Can he accept God’s will and still find a place for Lily in his life?

My Review:

Debut novel from an up and coming Canadian (and now multi-contracted) author. Love being in at the very beginning of a writing career. The gripping prologue had my heart rate elevated, my curiosity piqued and me salivating for more.

Lily's a diamond in the rough and I love that Nick sees the good in her from the very beginning. He's the product of a conservative small town upbringing and he grapples with allegiance to the mentor he very nearly idolizes when Lily comes to town. He thought his life was all mapped out, but his attraction to Lily sends him off course...according to small town gossip. Committed to the Lord when we first meet him, his faith is stretched to its limits as the story unfolds and he is the better for it by the end.

In contrast, Lily's faith journey has stuttered to a stop when she arrives at Rainbow Falls. In fact, it's back stepped into non-existence thanks to the negative influences of her adopted father. Her coming to terms with her past and finally accepting her worth as a daughter of God makes for an inspiring read. Emotion bleeds from every page as the rocky beginnings of a romance stabilize into something life-changing. Awesome read.

Quilted by Christmas

GIVEAWAY

BAILEY, JODIE
QUILTED BY CHRISTMAS

A grandmother's last wish is to communicate God's love through an Irish chain quilt.

Taryn McKenna believes she's easy to forget. Abandoned by her parents and left behind when her high school sweetheart joined the army, she vows to never love again and throws herself into her love for the outdoors and the pursuit of a college degree---something no one else in her family has ever accomplished. Her goal, as a young teacher in the hills of North Carolina, is to leave a legacy in the lives of the middle-schoolers she teaches.

When Taryn's grandmother Jemma, the only other person who ever held her close, has a heart attack that reveals a fatal medical condition, Taryn is corralled into helping Grandma work on a final project---an Irish chain quilt that tells the story of her history and the love Jemma knows is out there for Taryn. As the pieces of the quilt come together, Taryn begins to see her value. Can she learn to believe that God will never leave her behind even though others have?

My Review:

An angsty romance that kept me squirming right to the very end. In fact, my tummy was in knots for most of the read. Bailey doesn't play nice with her characters. She ups the tension and twists the plot and stretches the conflict so tight I didn't see how a happily ever after was possible. She should be reported for cruelty to characters. :-) I ached for both Justin and Taryn -- wounded by the past and holding their hurt inside. I wanted to smack them upside the head and tell them to spit it out already. Of course that would have shortened the book and consequently my reading enjoyment so I kept my mouth closed...this time.

Quilted By Christmas isn't all drama though. There are still plenty of sweet and funny and tender moments. A great blend of emotions that swept me away. And great twists on incorporating the quilting theme. Can't say more for fear of spoiling the plot, but it was fun to read!

A solid inspirational thread tie families...and the hero and heroine...together by the grace of God. A reminder that only through Him can the impossible be made possible.

At Bluebonnet Lake

GIVEAWAY

CABOT, AMANDA
AT BLUEBONNET LAKE

Her life is set to warp speed. His is slowing to a crawl. But love has its own timing.
Marketing maven Kate Sherwood's world is fast-paced, challenging, and always changing. The last thing she wants to do is grind to a halt at Rainbow's End, a dilapidated resort in the Texas Hill Country. Still, she cannot deny her ailing grandmother's request to visit the place where she and her deceased husband spent one glorious week fifty years ago. There, Kate meets Greg, who appears to be the resort's unassuming handyman. But there's more to Greg than meets the eye--billions more, in fact.

Kate isn't looking for romance, but she can't deny the sparks of attraction that fly every time she and Greg are together. Could there be a future there? Or will Kate's long-sought promotion take her back to the big city?

Amanda Cabot invites you to step into a place away from the pressures of the day. You might be surprised by what you find at Rainbow's End.

My Review:

Wow -- so excited that this is the first in the Texas Crossroads series. Not only is At Bluebonnet Lake a stunning contemporary romance, but Cabot has laid some wonderful groundwork for the future books. She says there will be at least two more. I'm hoping for way more than that.

Love the whole idea behind Rainbow's End. The symbolism brings a certain magic to the story. But the physical resort is completely captivating too. I totally want to visit -- especially if I get to meet Kate and Greg in person.

Don't you just love it when romance takes a heroine unawares? Especially a ladder-climbing executive type who has no intention of setting foot in Texas again after this one vacation with her grandmother. Never say never, Miss Kate Sherwood, especially when God has different plans for your future.

Though Kate is career-oriented, she's kind, compassionate, funny and dedicated to her grandmother. Really, why would Greg even try to resist? Well, he doesn't try hard, though he is at a crossroads of his own and hesitates to add romance into the mix.

There is a great inspirational thread seamlessly woven into the very fibre of this story. I love how natural it felt -- and though both Kate and Greg are Christians, they learn a lot about trusting God not just with their future, but their present and their past as well. Some really powerful testimonies touched me during the course of this read.

Simply put -- At Bluebonnet Lake is a special blend of inspiration and romance that will lift your spirit and touch your heart. It doesn't get any better than that, right?

Wrangler's Corner: Family comes first

My Review:

Page-turning suspense at its very best. My heart rate accelerated the second I started reading. Eason knows how to lure a reader in and keep her hooked until the very last page. A complex plot kept me on my toes. Loved the balance between mystery and suspense. I was trying to figure out clues right along with Sabrina and Clay -- while anxiously looking over my shoulder in mounting fear. Spine tingling good.

Sugar Plum Season

GIVEAWAY

ROSS, MIA
SUGAR PLUM SEASON

Season of Love

Amy Morgan is determined not to let her injury affect her love for dance. Moving to the tiny town of Barrett's Mill, she takes over her aunt's dance studio and begins to organize a children's Christmas ballet recital. She just needs a little help from handsome lumberjack Jason Barrett. Charming and an all-around good guy, Jason volunteers to build the stage sets. Working together with the pretty ballerina forges a connection he never expected. But is Amy really ready to leave the limelight behind? It'll take a few dancing candy canes—and a whole lot of faith—to bring them together in joy and love.

Barrett's Mill: In the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, a family legacy leads to love

My Review:

Ross takes us back to Barrett's Mill in this second book in her new series. You don't need to have read Blue Ridge Reunion in order to enjoy this one...but honestly, you should because it's so good. :-) If you have read it you will enjoy a glimpse into the married life of Paul and Chelsea. And the joy of getting reacquainted with some wonderful secondary characters.

One of this author's strengths is her ability to create the unique dynamics of small town life that make it so appealing. Such an incredible anchor for this heartwarming story. Love the Nutcracker theme and the wonderful contrast between a ballerina and a lumberjack. It might seem like a doomed love story but Amy finds Jason's appeal hard to resist...and so did I. Ross mixes things up by throwing a curve ball at some 'predictable' plot lines that are anything but. Love the fresh twists and the depth they bring to the inspirational theme. A magical Christmas story that manages to convey both the warmth and hope of the season.

Surprised By Love

GIVEAWAY

LESSMAN, JULIE
SURPRISED BY LOVE

Shy and unattractive as a child, Megan McClare has always been teased by her classmates. But when she returns home from her senior year in Paris, the wallflower has suddenly blossomed into a beauty. With ambitions to become a lawyer or doctor, Megan accepts an internship at the district attorney's office only to discover that she will be working with Devin Caldwell, a boy who mercilessly mocked her at school--and with whom she was hopelessly enamored. She turns to her dear friend Bram Hughes for support and advice. But Bram's vision is clouded by his sudden unwelcome attraction to a girl he had always thought of as a kid sister. He advises forgiveness, but can he forgive himself for pushing the woman he loves into the arms of another man?

My Review:

Sweet torture. Lessman knows how to deliver a page-turning read filled with love and laughter and plenty of on-the-edge-of-your-seat drama. I savored every blessed word. And had a bit of a cry at the end because this is the last book in the Heart of San Francisco series.

This author has a special way of creating vibrant, true-to-life characters. I love the McClares. The banter and teasing between the siblings. The way they stick by one another when times get tough. They are multidimensional people that have a permanent place in my heart. And I love the unhurried feel as the story unfolds. Like we have all the time in the world to live every precious second right along with Meg and Bram.

And, oh my goodness what a complicated love story! I wouldn't expect anything less from this author though. So I gritted my teeth and plowed through the angsty bits (well, more than bits) and swooned over the romantic ones. And there's a bonus second love story within these pages as well. That one about tore my heart out. I felt pulverized by the end.

Another Lessman classic not to be missed.

Silent Night Standoff

GIVEAWAY

SLEEMAN, SUSAN
SILENT NIGHT STANDOFF

Hostage situation

When armed robbers strike her bank, hostage negotiator Skyler Brennan's life is on the line. Rescue comes from the last person she thought she could count on—the ex-boyfriend who chose his job over their relationship. FBI agent Logan Hunter knows how much is resting on this case. The promotion of his dreams…and the safety of the woman he's never been able to forget. But when an unexpected twist in the case pulls Logan in two separate directions, he'll have to make an impossible choice. Will he manage to have it all by Christmas—a career and love—or will he lose them both?

First Responders: Brave men and women alert and ready for danger and love.

My Review:

Exciting start to what looks to be a fantastic new series. I love how the author takes the time to set up the characters who will 'star' in the next books. There's such camaraderie amongst Skyler's squad.  Kindred spirits in a self-made family.  And take a look at the cover. Wait...isn't that a fire station in the picture? But this is a book about an FBI agent and a deputy sheriff so how does that book cover fit? Perfectly. Uber cool, actually. You'll have to read Silent Night Standoff to find out why.

Taut action and plenty of suspense keep Skyler and Logan on high alert...and conveniently interrupt the rekindling of a past romance. Skyler is still smitten, but she's older and wiser. Logan never stopped loving Skyler but his priorities are all messed up. Stubborn, stubborn man. There's a touching Christmas tie-in that wraps up their love story in perfect holiday fashion. An awesome holiday read!

A Lady of Willowgrove Hall

GIVEAWAY

LADD, SARAH E.
A LADY OF WILLOWGROVE HALL

Her secret cloaks her in isolation and loneliness. His secret traps him in a life that is not his own.

Darbury, England, 1819

Cecily Faire carries the shame of her past wherever she treads, knowing one slip of the tongue could expose her disgrace. But soon after becoming a lady’s companion at Willowgrove Hall, Cecily finds herself face-to-face with a man well-acquainted with the past she’s desperately hidden for years.

Nathaniel Stanton has a secret of his own—one that has haunted him for years and tied him to his father’s position as steward of Willowgrove Hall. To protect his family, Nathaniel dares not breathe a word of the truth. But as long as the shadow looms over him, he’ll never be free to find his own way in the world. He’ll never be free to fall in love.

When the secrets swirling within Willowgrove Hall come to light, Cecily and Nathaniel must confront a painful choice: Will they continue running from the past . . . or will they stand together and fight for a future without the suffocating weight of secrets long kept?

My Review:

I'm all a twitter over yet another captivating Regency novel by this author. Honestly, open book and fall through time. The temptation to curtsy when greeting my boss was nearly impossible to resist. And I had the strongest urge to ring for the maid to help me dress in the morning. Such a disappointment when she didn't make an appearance. Luckily Ladd's exceptional writing enabled me to live Regency through the eyes of Cecily.

What an enthralling story. From the historical details to the compelling plot, I was totally hooked. Love the conflict and angst created by the layers of secrets and the surprising results when those secrets finally come to light. And the romance...be still my heart. Doomed by their secrets, Nathaniel and Cecily both feel they can't act upon their deepening attraction. Talk about keeping a reader on tenterhooks! A definite must read for historical lovers...especially Regency ones.

Deceived

GIVEAWAY

HANNON, IRENE
DECEIVED

For three years, Kate Marshall has been grieving the loss of her husband and their four-year-old son in a boating accident. But when she spots a familiar-looking child on an escalator in the mall, she is convinced it is the son she thought was dead. With police skeptical of her story, she turns to private investigator Connor Sullivan. The former Secret Service agent is dubious but agrees to investigate. Digging into the case he discovers that the incident may have been no accident at all. But if Kate's son is alive, someone is intent on keeping him hidden--and may be willing to go to lethal lengths to protect a sinister secret.

As Irene Hannon's many fans have come to expect, Deceived is filled with complex characters, unexpected twists, and a riveting plot line that accelerates to an explosive finish.

My Review:

Honestly, with Irene Hannon you simply can't go wrong! This is the third in her Private Justice series and I'm sad to say goodbye. Deceived reads well as a standalone so no need to worry if you haven't read the other two. If you have read Trapped and Vanished though you'll enjoy connecting with Cal and Dev again.

A really unique read in the way the author develops the suspense. We know early on who the villain is. We are treated to scenes from his viewpoint. We don't know all the wherefores and whys but we know whodunit. So you might ask, where's the suspense and I'd reply, 'oozing from every page'. There was something so edgy about knowing more than Connor and Kate while watching them slowly piece fragmented clues together. As they get closer to the answers they are seeking Hannon revs up the pace and I was on tenterhooks the whole read. And the last fifty pages? Didn't even breathe! Whoosh!

And on the romantic side. Swoon. Best kiss ever!!!!!!!!!!! Just sayin'. And the way the author creates a push/pull to their growing attraction...blissful sigh. So basically, if you love romantic suspense (and who doesn't when it's this good?) Deceived should be on your must read list.

Honor

GIVEAWAY

COTE, LYN
HONOR

When unexpected circumstances leave Honor Penworthy destitute after the death of her grandfather, she is forced to leave her Maryland plantation—and the slaves she hoped to free—and seek refuge with a distant relative. With no marketable skills, her survival hinges on a marriage arranged through the Quaker community to local glass artisan Samuel Cathwell. Samuel is drawn to Honor, but he has been unwilling to open his heart to anyone since scarlet fever took his hearing as a child.

A move west brings the promise of a fresh start, but nothing in Honor’s genteel upbringing has prepared her for the rigors of frontier life with Samuel. Nevertheless, her tenacity and passion sweep her into important winds of change, and she becomes increasingly—though secretly—involved in the Underground Railroad. Samuel suspects Honor is hiding something, but will uncovering the truth confirm his worst fears or truly bring them together as man and wife?

Set against the backdrop of dramatic and pivotal moments in American history, the Quaker Brides series chronicles the lives of three brave heroines, fighting to uphold their principles of freedom while navigating the terrain of faith, family, and the heart.

My Review:

I was first drawn to this book by the stark one word title and the incredible cover art. The model is the perfect match for the book's heroine. The set of her shoulders, the proud tilt of her head, the determination in her eyes. I took one look at Honor and knew I had to read her story. And then when I scanned the description on the back of the book and discovered that Honor joins in the fight against slavery I was ready to swoon right there in the bookstore! Needless to say, I devoured this book in a day.

Honor and Samuel have such a difficult start to their marriage. Both have pasts that have affected them deeply, leaving them wary of any kind of union. And if that isn't enough of a handicap to start a marriage with, they are immediately thrust into a series of dire situations, one following after another in an endless stream of difficulties.

Honor has to be one of my favourite heroines of all time. She really captivated me. Her faith in the Lord, her passion for doing right even when the personal cost is crushing, her yearning for love and acceptance from her husband.  A backbone of steel and a heart filled with grace. She's both strong and vulnerable but always carries herself with a genteel dignity. Such a complex character and I love her!

Samuel is quite the opposite. His deafness has embittered him and he has turned away from his Quaker faith and spent years building up walls around himself. He lives in his own world, having as little to do with others as possible. Acquiring a wife sends his well-ordered life into a tailspin. Such a complicated romance! Full of sorrow and fear and tenderness and passion. Sublime!

Honestly, one of the best books I have read this year.

After exposing an illegal adoption ring, newly named "Kara Grant" is promised safety in Witness Protection. But someone has found her—and wants her dead. If only she could trust the handsome firefighter who catches her fleeing from a suspicious fire. Jake Steele seems to think she's guilty of burning her own home. But how can she tell him who she really is and what she's been through without bringing danger to the widowed single father's door? Yet with the criminals quickly closing in, taking such a risk might be her only chance at survival. Because the price she'll pay for her silence could be her life.

My Review:

Starts off with a bang and the pace just doesn't let up. Take a deep breath before you open this book because it's guaranteed you'll need the oxygen. Loved the opening scenes. Kara fleeing for her life, unable to trust anyone. Jake in full protector mode unable to leave well enough alone. The lady says she doesn't need his help but he doesn't believe it...thank goodness. The suspense is taut, the romance is tense and the action is plentiful. Fans of Orchard will recognize the Steele family from Perilous Waters. Love when I get to catch up with old friends! Orchard has become a must read suspense writer for me.

Angels Walking

GIVEAWAY

KINGSBURY, KAREN
ANGELS WALKING

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Kingsbury comes the first in a brand-new series about second chances—a dramatic story about a washed up baseball player, the love he left behind, and the miracles that might save them both.

When former national baseball star Tyler Ames suffers a career-ending injury, all he can think about is putting his life back together the way it was before. He has lost everyone he loves on his way to the big leagues. Then just when things seem to be turning around, Tyler hits rock bottom. Across the country, Tyler’s one true love Sami Dawson has moved on.

A series of small miracles leads Tyler to a maintenance job at a retirement home and a friendship with Virginia Hutcheson, an old woman with Alzheimer’s who strangely might have the answers he so desperately seeks.

A team of Angels Walking take on the mission to restore hope for Tyler, Sami, and Virginia. Can such small and seemingly insignificant actions of the unseen bring healing and redemption? And can the words of a stranger rekindle lost love? Every journey begins with a step.

It is time for the mission to begin…

My Review:

An amazing and awe-inspiring read. Seriously good. It was so easy to lose myself in this new community of angels and humans that Kingsbury has created. The story generated goosebumps on top of goosebumps all the way through. I loved the way the reader gets a bird's eye view of God's miracles. How one action builds upon another, even though they are seemingly unrelated. A domino effect of blessings that testify of His love. Told from multiple viewpoints, some scenes are short, others longer but the impeccable pacing builds to a crescendo of a climax. A panoramic view of how heaven and earth combine to bring the healing power of redemption into our lives. A definite must read.
