Crosshairs

GIVEAWAY

BRADLEY, PATRICIA
CROSSHAIRS

Investigative Services Branch (ISB) ranger Ainsley Beaumont arrives in her hometown of Natchez, Mississippi, to investigate the murder of a three-month-pregnant teenager. While she wishes the visit was under better circumstances, she never imagined that she would become the killer's next target -- nor that she'd have to work alongside an old flame.

After he almost killed a child, FBI sniper Lincoln Steele couldn't bring himself to fire a gun, which had deadly and unforeseen consequences for his best friend. Crushed beneath a load of guilt, Linc, is working at Melrose Estate as an interpretive ranger. But as danger closes in on Ainsley during her murder investigation, Linc will have to find the courage to protect her. The only question is, will it be too little, too late?

Award-winning author Patricia Bradley continues her Natchez Trace Park Rangers series with a story about how good must prevail when evil just won't quit.

My Review:

Another taut suspense with a blockbuster ending from a favourite suspense author. Honestly, my head was spinning from all the twists and turns. It seemed like when Ainsley and Linc were making headway something would throw a spanner in the works and they were flung off in another direction. Finding answers leads to more questions and I really enjoyed the investigative field work that builds the suspense. There's so much going on I was on the edge of my seat right to the very end.

And I loved this reunion romance. It's paced well amidst all the intrigue and danger. Both hero and heroine made mistakes in their past that they need to own up to but does that mean they can have a future together now? So complicated and emotional but written very realistically from both points of view. Solid faith threads bring added depth to these characters and enrich the story overall.

Crosshairs ticks all my romantic suspense boxes and then some! And I'm beyond thrill that the fourth book in the Natchez Park Ranger series comes out this summer! Each book can easily be read as a standalone by the way, but, oh....they are sooooo good you'll want to read them all!

I listened to the audible edition narrated by Rachel Dulude who manages to bring an air of urgency to every word she reads! Really added to my enjoyment of the story.

Goal Update: #6 Stay current with a series

Obsession

GIVEAWAY

BRADLEY, PATRICIA
OBSESSION

Natchez Trace Ranger and historian Emma Winters hoped never to see Sam Ryker again after she broke off her engagement to him. But when shots are fired at her at a historical landmark just off the Natchez Trace, she's forced to work alongside Sam as the Natchez Trace law enforcement district ranger in the ensuing investigation. To complicate matters, Emma has acquired a delusional secret admirer who is determined to have her as his own. Sam is merely an obstruction, one which must be removed.

Sam knows that he has failed Emma in the past and he doesn't intend to let her down again. Especially since her life is on the line. As the threads of the investigation cross and tangle with their own personal history, Sam and Emma have a chance to discover the truth, not only about the victim but about what went wrong in their relationship.

My Review:

Wowzers! I have a case of reader whiplash after racing through this nail-biting romantic suspense. So many complicated layers, both in plot and character, that writhe and twist into a heart-thundering tale of murder and mayhem with a scary stalker vibe. Cue the creepy music, grab some comfort chocolate and a teddy bear to hug because the stalker's POV is sinister.

And there's a reunion romance that starts out all snip and snark courtesy of Emma. That girl has some serious issues with her past and her fear default is anger. She can be defensive and prickly but, deep down she's as attracted to Sam as he is to her. And though he's been hurt by her rejection in the past, his unfaltering steadfastness keeps them both grounded as they try to outsmart an evil-minded villain. These two have a lot to sort out before they can even glimpse a happily ever after in their future.

Bradley provides some likely suspects and enough red herrings to keep an armchair sleuth on the edge of her seat right to the very end. And, mercy, what a heart-stopping conclusion!

Another incredible addition to Patricia Bradley's Natchez Trace Park Rangers series.

My Review:
\
Wbiplash suspense paired with an angsty reunion romance are the foundation of the unputdownable first book in Patricia Bradley's new series, Natchez Trace Park Rangers. Gobsmackingly good!

Absolutely love the park rangers angle which is something fresh and new for a romantic suspense and Bradley brings out interesting details of the profession and training and the way multiple agencies come together to fight organized crime. The suspense plot is intense and complex with enough hairpin turns to throw an unsuspecting reader into a tailspin of bibliophile delight! We're even given terse, intermittent perspectives from a villain who has Brooke in his crosshairs. It got to the point where I suspected nearly everyone in the book except Luke!  And I like the way the short chapters created a sense of urgency. Each one ending on a high note that compelled me to read 'just one more chapter.' Like I said, Unputdownable.

Luke and Brooke were high school friends on the cusp of turning into something more when Luke did a sudden about-face and left town. Now he's back, deep undercover investigating a drug smuggling operation. Only Brooke, a newly minted law enforcement ranger,  keeps getting in the way. Their romance is all kinds of complicated. Sometimes funny, often frustrating and occasionally toe-curling...in between dodging violent attacks, of course. :-)

An incredible start to an exciting new series. Can't wait until Obsession comes out in February 2021!

Justice Delivered

GIVEAWAY
BRADLEY, PATRICIA
JUSTICE DELIVERED

Carly Smith came by her trust issues honestly. She's been at the mercy of merciless men, ignored by law enforcement officers who should have helped her, and seemingly rejected by her family. She can't seven trust herself to do the right thing. Though she is working hard on building a new life, the past continues to haunt her when she discovers that the man she couldn't bring herself to report to the police is still out there, luring vulnerable girls under the guise of being a modeling agent.

When her own niece is kidnapped, Carly must overcome her fears and come forward with the information she has. But if that proves to be too little, too late -- she'll have to go after the perpetrators herself.

My Review:

Tough subject matter makes this a hard read at times. Kudos to the author for handling the topic with grace and compassion as well as portraying Carly's recovery journey realistically. This is the kind of suspense that knots your stomach and keeps a reader on edge all the way through -- especially when I began putting pieces together and the alarm bells started clanging in my head. It got to the point where I just couldn't put the book down. I had to voraciously gobble up the last half in one sitting.

This is the fourth book in the Memphis Cold Case series and Patricia Bradley fans will be happy to reconnect with some characters from the previous books but Justice Delivered also reads perfectly fine as a standalone. It's lighter on the romance then the previous books which makes sense given the nature of the suspense thread. But there is romance -- two, in fact -- just not the major focus of the story.

A plot with plenty of twists and turns -- where you sit frozen in your chair waiting for the other shoe to drop -- and the kind of characters it's easy to care about and root for make Justice Delivered an incredible thrill of a read

Justice Betrayed

GIVEAWAY
BRADLEY, PATRICIA
JUSTICE BETRAYED

Unsolved murders seventeen years apart are about to get personal...

It's Elvis week in Memphis, and homicide detective Rachel Sloan isn't sure her day could get any stranger when aging Elvis impersonator Vic Vegas asks to see her. But when he produces a photo of her murdered mother with four Elvis impersonators -- one of whom had also been murdered soon after the photo was taken -- she's forced to reevaluate. Is there some connection between the two unsolved cases? And could the recent break-in at Vic's home be tied to his obsession with finding his friend's killer?

When yet another person in the photo is murdered, Rachel suddenly has her hands full investigating three cases. Lieutenant Boone Callahan offers his help, but their checkered romantic past threatens to get in the way. Can they solve the cases before the murderer makes Rachel victim number four?

My Review:

"Maybe she didn't have peace because she wouldn't let God in." (p 141)

Breath-snatching good! The way the author weaves past and present together into a frenzy of a cold case suddenly turned hot is mind blowing! I was on tenterhooks the whole read. And I love the way the case is set out -- very police procedural so you feel like you're right there working every clue with meticulous detail right along with Rachel and Boone. And oh, those twists and turns and the line up of potential suspects is riveting! I managed to whittle it down to two close to the end and then -- bam! -- it all comes together with startling clarity when it's almost too late!

Rachel really intrigued me when I met her in Justice Buried. A little uptight, very focused and very mysterious. Especially when it came to her interactions with Boone. So I was thrilled to dive right in and get deeper into their individual stories and the reason for all the sizzling fireworks that set off every time they are together. The romance is just as angst-riddled as the suspense. Often subtle at times though there's no doubting the connection Rachel and Boone have.

An edge-of-your-seat thrill of a read!

Justice Buried

RETRO READ

GIVEAWAY
BRADLEY, PATRICIA
JUSTICE BURIED

In an effort to get her security consulting business off the ground, Kelsey Allen has been spending a lot of time up in the air, rappelling down buildings and climbing through windows to show business owners their vulnerabilities to thieves. When she is hired to pose as a conservator at the Pink Palace Museum in order to test their security weaknesses after some artifacts go missing, she's ecstatic. But when her investigative focus turns from theft to murder, Kelsey knows she's out of her league -- and possibly in the cross hairs. When blast-from-the-past Detective Brad Hollister is called in to investigate, Kelsey may find that he's the biggest security threat yet...to her heart.

Crackling with romantic tension and laced with intrigue, this suspenseful story from award-winning author Patricia Bradley will keep your guessing -- and looking over your shoulder.

My Review:

published in 2017

Definitely a sleep-depriving-red-eyes-in-the-morning kind of read because once you start Justice Buried there's no way you'll be able to stop. Intriguing, edge-of-your seat stuff! From the cold case (that's heating up with alarming speed) to the prickly, slow-start romance. And if there was ever a kick-butt heroine it's Kelsey! I mean she's like a Ninja female Spiderman. How could you not love a heroine who rappels down buildings for a living?!

Well, Brad has a few doubts at first. These two were not high school sweethearts -- more like indifferent and misunderstood -- and they carry those residual feelings into their unexpected reunion. And then things get really complicated as the action and danger amps up. And oh, what a thrilling twisted mess it is! Lots of potential suspects, riveting casework and compelling clues. I was a nervous wreck by the halfway point and then, as things began to come together in my steel trap of an armchair sleuth mind (smirk), I came close to hyperventilating. Heart attack material within the pages of this book!

A compulsive thrill of a read!

Justice Delayed

GIVEAWAY

BRADLEY, PATRICIA
JUSTICE DELAYED

In one week, the wrong man will be executed for murder. Let the chase for the real killer begin.

Eighteen years ago, TV crime reporter Andi Hollister's sister was murdered. The convicted killer sits behind bars, his execution date looming. But when a later surfaces stating that the condemned didn't do the crime, Detective Will Kincaide of the Memphis Cold Case Unit will stop at nothing to help Andi get to the bottom of it. After all, this case is personal: the man who confessed to the crime is Will's cousin. Andi and Will must find the real killer before the wrong person is executed. But what can happen in only a week? Uncovering police corruption, running for your life, and perhaps falling in love?

With the perfect mixture of intrigue and nail-biting suspense, award winning author Patricia Bradley invites you to crack the case -- if you can -- alongside the best Memphis has to offer.

My Review:

Breath-snatching good. Such intriguing suspense. Readers have the benefit of knowing some things before Andi and Will do which makes the reading all the more edgier, I find. There's still plenty of clues to decipher and suspects to weed through as well and I'm proud to report that I finally (after a few false starts) figured out the villain...but wait, there's more than one and some things surprised me. Shocked me. Confounded me. Phew! A thriller of a read!!!!!

The romance is subtle. A kind of unrequited yearning on both sides, though they don't realize it. Andi and Will have known each other since childhood. He's her brother's best friend. She was the proverbial tag-along little sister. They were the disgruntled older kids trying to avoid her. So there's some great dynamics rooted in familiarity. But somewhere along the way that friendly affection has turned into something deeper but neither Will or Andi are willing to take a risk. Until murder and mayhem turn their world upside down and set their priorities straight!

A nail-biting page-turner. You'll want to clear your calendar for this one because you won't want to stop reading once you start.

Shadows of the Past

GIVEAWAY

BRADLEY, PATRICIA
SHADOWS OF THE PAST

While she's stalking the truth . . . someone is stalking her.
Psychology professor and criminal profiler Taylor Martin prides herself on being able to solve any crime, except the one she wants most desperately to solve--the disappearance of her father twenty years ago. When she finally has a lead on his whereabouts, Taylor returns home to Logan Point, Mississippi, to investigate. But as she works to uncover the truth, someone else will do almost anything to keep her from it.

Nick Sinclair pens mystery novels for a living, but the biggest mystery to him is how he can ever get over the death of his wife--a tragedy he believes he could have prevented. Now that his estranged brother is the only family he has left, Nick sets out to find him. But when he crosses paths with Taylor, all he seems to find is trouble.

Join the chase as Taylor and Nick search the murky shadows of the past for the keys to unlocking the present--and moving into a future they never imagined.

My Review:

Stunning debut novel! Layers of complex suspense and complicated relationships. The kind of read you can sink your teeth into. And the kind that makes you want to rush through it because it's so compelling but you find yourself trying to slow down so you can savour the story a little longer.

I could really identify with both the hero and heroine. Taylor and Nick are dealing with past trauma that colours the way they perceive their present and their future. And ironically, they are both driven by a similar need to defend wayward relatives. Stubbornly defend -- which puts them at odds even though they should be able to empathize. Creates a real depth to both plot and character development.

Toe-curling romantic scenes add more tension to a plot riddled with twists and turns. And I really loved how Bradley developed the suspense. So many threads slowly twisted into one gnarled cord. A brilliant read!
