Dangerous Mountain Rescue

GIVEAWAY

BARRITT, CHRISTY
DANGEROUS MOUNTAIN RESCUE

Finding a missing girl depends on a K-9 and his handler.

Erin Lansing will search every inch of the mountains to find her missing teen daughter -- even with someone dead-set on stopping her. Teaming up with search-and-rescue K-9 handler Dillon Walker and his dog, Scout, is her only chance at living long enough to see her daughter again. But to save them all, can Dillion and Scout help Erin confront the dangerous truth about her past?

A K-9 Search and Rescue Novel

My Review:

Not just a heart-in-throat kind of opening scene, but a rip-a-mother's-heart-out kind. Barritt delivers one emotional sucker punch after another in this edge-of-your-seat romantic suspense.

A mother with a missing child who is desperate to find her. A stalker dogging her every move and taunting her at every turn. And that handsome St. Bernard mix tracking expert -- oh, and his human counterpart -- who stick by her side despite all the angst and upset

Honestly, I felt every emotion imaginable to the nth degree during this read. From fury at certain individuals to abject terror on Erin's behalf, to swoonalicious toe-curls over a certain K-9 duo. :-) So many plot twist and downright U-turns! Not to mention gasp-out-loud moments! Christy Barritt knows how to keep a reader fixated on a story.

And -- the icing on the cake -- eeeppp, I got to listen to Patricia Santomasso's riveting narration which made my 'reading' experience all the more enjoyable.

Breakwater Protector

GIVEAWAY

BARRITT, CHRISTY
BREAKWATER PROTECTOR

One secret will tear them apart. The other will pull them closer.

Lizzie McCreary needs to disappear. As danger stalks her, she examples to windswept Cape Corral with her eight-year-old son, Preston. The isolated island offers her a desperate hope for safety.

Saltwater cowboy Dash Fulton isn't looking for love. Yet when he rescues a woman and boy from the woods, he immediately feels a bond with the two. He can sense the pair are harbouring secrets. The question is, what are they?

Dash has secrets of his own and pressure continues to mount for him to come clean. But as he's caught up in the peril surrounding Lizzie and Preston, his own problems become a low priority. He can't let anyone hurt the sweet single mom and her precocious son.

As more details come to light, will wounds from the past ultimately drive Lizzie and Dash apart? Or will the man chasing Lizzie destroy any hope for the future?

My Review:

I'm quite enamoured with this Saltwater Cowboy series -- love the setting and all the wild horses and the dreamy guys lined up to be heroes in future books. :-) Breakwater Protector is the perfect reading escape for a hot summer afternoon.

And though it's the second book in the series, it can easily be read as a standalone. There is a bit of an island mystery that is developing and looks like it won't be fully solved until the end of the series, but you won't feel lost diving into this book if you haven't read Saltwater Cowboy. Barritt is a pro at keeping readers current without bogging the story down.

Love the way this mystery develops -- all stalkerish spooky. Lizzie is so out of her element and I felt every panicky second as her fear amps up. Dash can sense that something is off when he rides to the rescue (literally...be still my heart!) but Lizzie is tight-lipped and wary. Her son, Preston, is the exact opposite though and the more he's around the boy, the more he's intrigued by the mother.

Lizzie isn't the only one harbouring secrets -- Dash has been keeping one buried for months. Even from some of his closest law enforcement and fire fighting buddies and as emotions run high among the islanders, he's afraid his secret is on the verge of being revealed.

Cue your favourite suspense-y background music track and settle into your comfiest sleuthing armchair and get ready for a captivating page-turning adventure.

I listened to the audible edition narrated by Stacey Glemboski and I enjoyed every breathtaking moment!

Saltwater Cowboy

GIVEAWAY

BARRITT, CHRISTY
SALTWATER COWBOY

He's trying to forget. She'd give anything to remember.

Officer Levi Sutherland wants to protect the wild horses of Cape Corral and keep the island residents safe. But memories of his deceased wife haunt him at every turn and make him long for a fresh start. When a woman washes ashore with a bullet wound and no memories, Levi knows he can't leave until he discovers what happened to her.

The woman -- whose necklace reads Dani -- captures Levi's attention like no one has in a long time. But which side of the law is she on? Could Dani be mixed up with other mysterious incidents happening on the island?

Together, can the two find answers and create new memories? Or will secrets tear them apart and destroy a future as uncertain as Dani's past?

My Review:

Wow, I think I might have fallen for the island even more than the cowboy! I become enchanted by Cape Corral and the wild horses from Barritt's stunning descriptions. I can still smell the tang of salt in the air and hear the muffled thud of thundering hooves on the sand. This is definitely my idea of the perfect summer beach read!

So, if you love horses and cowboys (and not necessarily in that order!) and you're looking for a riveting literary escape, look no further, Saltwater Cowboy's got you covered.

A second chance romance / amnesia suspense that kept me in a frenzied page turning state (with the occasional swoon break) right to the breathless, heart-pounding finale!

The amnesia trope can be tricky to pull off without feeling cliche but Barritt really sells it in Dani's story. Love the way this mystery unfolds as pieces of her past are slowly revealed. And Levi can't help but be intrigued -- and not just by her circumstances. :-)

His wife's tragic death has left him with a love/hate relationship with his island home. He loves the wild horses he protects -- along with the rest of the island inhabitants -- but every nook and cranny is filled with haunting memories of all he's lost and he's giving serious consideration to an out-of-state job offer until he's presented with the mystery that is Dani.

Great pacing with some intriguing bad guy POV scenes that amp up the fear factor and make for a compelling suspense. Throw in some toe-curling romance and a band of saltwater cowboys and, well, woohoo, I have a new series addiction!

Edge of Peril

GIVEAWAY
RANDOM RETRO READ DAY!

BARRITT, CHRISTY
EDGE OF PERIL

When evil descends like fog on a mountain community, no one feels safe.

After hearing about a string of murders in a Smoky Mountain town, journalist Harper Jennings realizes a startling truth. She knows who may be responsible -- the same person who tried to kill her three years ago. Now Harper must convince the cops to believe her before the killer strikes again.

Sheriff Luke Wilder returned to his hometown, determined to keep the promise he made to his dying father. The sleepy tourist area with a tragic past hadn't seen a murder in decades -- until now. Keeping the community safe seems impossible as darkness edges closer, threatening to consume everything in its path.

As The Watcher grows desperate, Harper and Luke must work together in order to defeat him. But the peril around them escalates, making it clear the killer will stop at nothing to ge what he wants.

My Review:

published in 2018

Cue the creepy background music and grab a comfort teddy bear to clutch during the more hair-raising moments and prepare to become lost in a page-turning marathon of suspense.

Nothing edgier than a stalker type story...unless it's a serial killer stalker type story. Bwahahaha! Barritt draws on every last nerve ending as she unravels clues and casts doubt on many secondary characters who might just be the suspect. I thought I'd clued in to who that was at one point but then she had me doubting myself until it was nearly too late to warn Harper. Not that she listened to me anyway when I screamed, "Noooo, doooonnnn'tttt....."

Enjoyed the dynamics between Luke and Harper -- from foes to allies to something so much more. And I loved the way the author set us up for future books in the series starring Luke's siblings who have all had complicated, angsty lives. Really looking forward to continuing with the Fog Lake Mysteries series.

I listened to the audible edition of this book -- narrated by Sandy Rustin who did a great job of bringing these characters to life and adding an extra thrill in the way she delivered the angsty parts. :-)

Mountain Survival

GIVEAWAY

BARRITT, CHRISTY
MOUNTAIN SURVIVAL

An injured victim has disappeared...
Can a park ranger and her K-9 find him?

When search-and-rescue park ranger Autumn Mercer and her K-9 partner, Sherlock, meet a stranger in the mountains whose brother is injured, they drop everything to help. But all they find where Derek Peterson last saw his sibling is a trail of blood -- and men who want them dead. With gunmen closing in, can Autumn and Derek survive long enough to save his brother?

My Review:

Whhhoooooooossshhhhhh -- that's the sound of me releasing my pent up breath at last. What a thrill-of-a-ride kinda read! And the star of the show is Sherlock the K-9 wonder dog...oh, and his humans too, of course. :-)

This is one wilderness adventure edge-of-your-seater. If the bad guys don't get them, nature will. And speaking of bag guys, the villain in this suspense is pure evil. His relentless pursuit about did me in, never mind the brooding threats of weather and rockslides and wildlife, oh my!

And I love that the heroine has the rescuer/protector role. Derek isn't afraid to admit Autumn's expertise trumps his. He knows he's out of his element and is man enough to admit it. While I do love my alpha heroes, a level-headed one who is secure enough in his masculinity to defer life and death matters to a female professional is all kinds of attractive too.

I listened to the audible edition of this book and I really enjoyed Stacey Glemboski's narration. I'm thrilled that Love Inspired is providing some audible options to its line.

GIVEAWAY
BARRITT, CHRISTY
RIPPLE EFFECT

Doing the right thing was his hardest task yet.

Griff McIntyre never expected his ex-wife, Bethany, and two-year-old daughter, Ada, to show up on his doorstep. After someone tried to abduct Ada, Bethany is desperate to find safety. Now Griff's not letting either of them out of his sight.

Desperation is the tie that binds them

Bethany knows Griff is the only one who can protect them, despite the fact that he broke her heart. But she'll do anything to protect her daughter -- even if it means playing nicely with Griff. Maybe in the process she'll learn why he really left.

A shocking secret threatens everything

As danger ripples through their lives, Griff and Bethany must work together to uncover the truth about who's behind these acts. But an unseen enemy wants something from them...and will stop at nothing to get it. When disaster strikes, can Griff keep his family safe? Or will past mistakes bring the ultimate failure?

My Review:

This is me finally keeping current with a Lantern Beach series. I'm so proud of myself. (Yes, I know that there's one more book that released in March but it's not available on audible yet so I'm counting myself current.)

Phew! What a hair-raising opening scene. My heart was in my throat and I was so antsy because I knew something awful was about to happen and I wanted Bethany to pay more attention to her high alert spidey senses but...ack! Barritt delivers another action-packed, skirting-the-edge-of-danger romantic suspense.

While this is the third book in her Lantern Beach Blackout series, it can be read as a standalone, though there is an over-arcing suspense plot that carries through each book. The author does a great job of covering all the bases when it comes to what a reader needs to know (or remember.)

Tension abounds -- both in the suspense and the romance. Definitely a consume-in-one-gulp thrill of a read.

GIVEAWAY OPPORTUNITY:

Alas, this book isn't available on Book Depository (I listened to the audible version) so this giveaway is for an ebook copy.

Safe Harbor

GIVEAWAY
BARRITT, CHRISTY
SAFE HARBOR

A job as easy as Sunday morning...

Guilt over past mistakes haunt Navy SEAL Dez Rodriguez. When he's asked to guard a pop star during a music festival on Lantern Beach, he's all set for what he hopes is a breezy assignment.

Until he meets Bree Jordan...

Bree hasn't found fame to be nearly as fulfilling as she dreamed. Instead, she's more like a carefully crafted character living out a pre-scripted story. When a stalker's threats become deadly, her life -- and career -- are turned upside down.

Danger rises up the charts...

From the start, Bree sees her temporary bodyguard as a player, and Dez sees Bree as a spoiled rich girl. But when they're thrown together in a fight for survival, both must learn to trust. Can Dez protect Bree -- and his carefully guarded heart? Or will their safe harbor ultimately become their death trap?

My Review:

First of all -- I just noticed the disconnect with the book title and the actual title on the cover. Had to do an info dive to see which is the right one. It is Safe Harbor and is correct on Amazon but Good Reads (where I got this pic from) has the cover with Deep Harbor on it. Just a funny little book quirk for your Tuesday. :-)

Since I missed all the other Lantern Beach series, I'm determined to keep current with this one (Lantern Beach Blackout.) Love these guys and the way they work together -- friends with a grim history but they still know how to razz each other. Great team dynamics, a stellar romance and a creepy stalker-vibe suspense sold me on this story. Getting to know these characters kept me there.

I'm usually not a fan of stardom story lines. Just can't connect at all, but I could with Bree right from the heart-pounding opening scene. Wooheee, but this author knows how to keep a reader (or listener) in a near coronary state! And there's a great balance between the suspense and romance. Neither overpowers the other which makes for a very smooth read.

Plus, there's this  gripping over-arcing suspense thread that's being carried through each book. It's in the background but I'm guessing it's going to build to an exciting crescendo by the end of the series. So much to look forward to! Like Griff! I'm anxiously waiting for his story (Ripple Effect) to become available on audible.

I listened to the audible version of this book, narrated by Stacey Glemboski. Nothing like listening to an adrenaline rush of a read while counting your steps walking around the neighbourhood. Who needs a coach when you can have this kind of motivation to keep you moving? :-)

GIVEAWAY OPPORTUNITY:

Please note: this giveaway is for an ebook. Unfortunately Safe Harbor isn't available on Book Depository right now. :-(

When she finds a hidden box of his personal possessions, more questions -- and suspicions -- arise. The only person who can help is his former best friend, Colton Locke.

My Review:

True Confession: I am waaaaay late to jumping onto the Lantern Beach bandwagon. Dark Water is the first book in the fifth series set in Lantern Beach!!!! You don't need to have read the other series in order to enjoy this one but I'm very intrigued by this 'universe' and am happy to back track. The author has provided a helpful lineup of the series and books which you can find here:

https://www.christybarritt.com/lantern-beach-universe/

There's nothing like conspiracy and betrayal to whet an avid suspense reader's appetite and this book has both in spades! Deliciously heart-in-throat, shoulder-checking edge-of-your-seater from the very first page. Lots of action and tension and plenty of angst both in the suspense and the romance make this a gnarled mess of a good read. :-)

Love the way the author has set up the Blackout team. I have a good sense of personalities and dynamics and each man has a bit of intrigue attached to him. Definitely looking forward to learning more in the upcoming books!

I listened to the audible edition narrated by Stacey Glemboski who offers up a solid rendering of these characters while creating the right kind of frenzied ambiance needed in a suspense narration. She kept me spellbound to the very last word.

Sienna's neighbor, FBI agent Devin Matthews, thwarts the kidnapping and promises to protect Sienna and the boy. But when they discover the child's missing mother isn't who she claimed to be, can they survive long enough to uncover the truth?

My Review:

Whoa -- definitely a devour-in-one-gulp suspense! The edgy first scene sets the stage for trauma and danger. And trying to figure out the suspense!!!!!  -- well, Barritt totally blew me away by the end. My head is still spinning! And she nails the romance too. Devin has kept neighbour Sienna at a distance. He's on sabbatical from the FBI while he tries to work some things out but he's stuck in cranky-brooding mode...until the night he spies trouble at Sienna's house and rushes to the rescue. I do so love witnessing the uncrankying of a broody hero. :-) Especially one with strong protective instincts like Devin. But for their reunion to become a second chance at love, they must find a way to survive the danger threatening to tear them apart.

The Baby Protectors: Keeping innocent children safe

My Review:

Intensely breath-snatching. An awkward truce forces these star-crossed lovers to work together to solve the mystery behind baby Addie...while trying to stay alive long enough to do it! Action from the get go keeps Tanner and Macy fighting to protect little Addie from a relentless force. With a dangerous suspect swiftly closing in, can they find the missing girl and clear Laney's name...before their possible future together is fatally cut short?

My Review:

Whoa -- intensely riveting from the very first page. I hyperventilated my way through pages of breath-stealing scenes. My nerves were on edge throughout the entire story. A colossal suspense with so many twists and turns it was impossible to figure it all out from my armchair sleuth's chair. I had my suspicions...but Barritt still managed to gobsmack me more than once. Of course I knew that Laney was innocent but Mark didn't. Threat of exposure...

Someone wants reporter Madelyn Sawyer to leave the small coastal town she's just arrived in -- even if it takes hurting her. But if she does, will she lose his trust...and any hope of surviving long enough to bring the real killer to light?

My review:

Intense from the very first page. Phew, Christy Barritt knows how to spin a suspenseful tale. Danger lurking in the shadows, a convoluted mess of clues to keep track of and then there's Madelyn's deception. Oy, reader angst aplenty in this romantic suspense. My Review:

A spy thriller that left me gasping in delight. There's something so sinister about a good spy story, isn't there? Even as Savannah’s new boarder, Clive Miller, makes her feel things she thought long forgotten, she suspects he’s hiding something too, and he’s not the only one. Doubts collide in Savannah’s mind: Who can she really trust?

As secrets emerge and danger closes in, Savannah must choose between faith and uncertainty. One wrong decision might spell the end…not just for her, but for everyone around her.

Will she unravel the mystery in time, or will doubt get the best of her?

My Review:

An enthralling romantic suspense that kept me riveted. Savannah is at such a crossroads in her life. Her grief and guilt has kept her frozen in the past. As far as she's concerned there is no future and all she can hope for of the present is to get through it one day at a time. Not an auspicious headspace to be in when she finds herself reluctantly thrust into a sinister mystery. It's almost like watching Sleeping Beauty wake up. Savannah's protective façade is slowly chipped away and as the story -- and the suspense -- continues, she comes back to life. Very powerful stuff.

And for Savannah, part of the mystery is her unexpected and secretive boarder. Trust doesn't come easily as doubts continue to cloud her mind. But there's no denying that Clive Miller is waking up emotions she never thought, or wanted, to feel again. Another fairy tale quality to the story and a deliciously edgy way to approach a romance.

The plot is made even more sinister by the snippets of the villain's POV. I was sure Barritt was leaving me hints but I remained clueless until the very end. Oh, I had suspicions, but I wasn't sure of any of the secondary characters as the story progressed. Every one seemed suspect. Cagey. Running their own agenda. A truly mesmerizing read.
