Christmas Under Fire

GIVEAWAY
KARL, MICHELLE
CHRISTMAS UNDER FIRE

Mission: Survive the holidays
A Mountie Brotherhood story

Cally Roslin came to northern British Columbia to enjoy a charming Canadian Christmas -- until somebody tries to kill her. But when she becomes the target of multiple attacks, Aaron Thrace, the handsome Mountie assigned to protect her, is certain it's no coincidence. Danger is swiftly closing in on Cally, and with hazardous snowstorms on the horizon, there'll soon be no place to run...

My Review:

Woohoo! Another Mountie Brotherhood story! Which means another Officer Thrace comes to the rescue of a damsel in distress as only an esteemed member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police can. Aaron is the third Thrace brother to mix business with pleasure when he falls for the woman he's pledged to protect.

Cally's visit to the Canadian north is supposed to be a peaceful respite from the tumultuous family dynamics at home. But from the first hair-raising scene it's clear that peace isn't on the agenda for this visit. Not when the heroine becomes the target of an unknown assailant whose relentless pursuit turns increasingly deadly. And, of course, this being Canada in the winter time, there's snow and icy roads to contend with which adds an extra layer of edginess to an already chilling plot. Throw in a little bit of Christmas and a healthy dose of romance and you end up with an intriguing holiday read.

Accidental Eyewitness

ACCIDENTAL EYEWITNESS

In a killer's sights...
a lawman at her side
A Mountie Brotherhood story

After Ellen Biers witnesses a theft turned homicide, the killer targets her. But her childhood crush, Mountie Leo Thrace, vows to protect her. Leo plans to keep his long ago promise to Ellen's brother -- and his best friend -- that he'd never date her. But with a killer determined to no loose end untied, keeping Ellen close might be the only way to save her.

My Review:

"A lawman at her side..." but not just any lawman! A bonafide Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer!!! Another Officer Thrace...this time it's middle brother Leo -- and be still my heart, there's still one more brother to go! Woot! I'm loving this series.

So, Leo and Ellen have a history...the unrequited love kind. Only it really wasn't unrequited because they were both crushing on the other in high school but Ellen has an over protective brother who just happens to be Leo's best friend and that kinda put a damper on romance.

Fast forward to present day and Leo and Ellen are thrown together in a desperate bid to stay alive! They are hunted in the most unusual and alarming ways. This author has one scary, devious mind to think up this kind of stuff. Lots of gasp-out-loud, cringe-and-duck moments that contributed to my frenetic page-turning. And the whys and wherefores of the case are positively intriguing. And there's horseback riding, people! I mean, seriously, what more could you ask for in a romantic suspense?

Wilderness Pursuit

GIVEAWAY
KARL, MICHELLE
WILDERNESS PURSUIT

His mission: keep his ex-love safe
Discover the Mountie Brotherhood series

Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer Sam Thrace can't believe the woman he's rescued from certain death is Kara Park -- his former sweetheart. Once brokenhearted, now he's protecting the courageous archaeologist from someone out to sabotage her controversial pipeline findings. And as he and Kara escape into the remote Canadian wilds, neither is safe from their emerging feelings -- or the threat to their lives.

My Review:

So...yeah, just the name of this series has me all twitterpated - Mountie Brotherhood. And Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer Sam Thrace is a fine hero to start things off. Blissful sigh.

Karl gives us an exciting glimpse into the life of a rural RCMP officer - maybe a little too exciting! 'Cause this is what I like to call a 'rabid-reader page-turner'. Be prepared for a hair-raising life-or-death pursuit through the Canadian wilderness. Honestly, the bad guys are...shudderingly ingenious in their lethal plans. Which means Sam and Kara are in for the fight of their lives.

These two have history of the high school kind and it's been eighteen years since Kara left their small community to attend university. Sam thought they had something special back then but this is  the case of two people who might be good with each other needing to grow up before they can be good for each other.

Nearly two decades later their explosive reunion kicks off a series of events that forces them to work together in order to survive. Kara's a hard-hitting professional used to making herself heard in a male-dominated profession and Sam can't seem to turn the macho protector off. These two grate on each other - and Kara can be biting in her bid to stand her ground. Great dynamics between these two! The romance is as nail-biting as the suspense!

And an added bonus -- Kara is Korean Canadian. I really can't express how thrilled I am to see more diversity in the Love Inspired lines.

So if you like plenty of action, wilderness survival and a Mountie riding to the rescue (literally) this is a definite must read.

A Killer Voice Duo

GIVEAWAY
A KILLER VOICE DUO
Harlequin's Love Inspired Suspense editors held a Killer Voice contest last spring in a search for new authors for their expanding line. Three of these contestants have book releases this April. I already reviewed Dana R. Lynn's debut, Presumed Guilty last week and wanted to get these two reviewed before they hit bookshelves next week. So Michelle Karl and Tammy Johnson are sharing the limelight today. Winner of this draw will receive BOTH Fatal Freeze and Royal Rescue.

JOHNSON, TAMMY
ROYAL RESCUE

A princess in peril...

Hidden away for more than fourteen years, Thea James was presumed dead by most—killed in the fire that burned the royal palace. But Ronin Parrish knows the truth…and so does the person who murdered Thea's father, the king. Ronin takes his new duty as Thea's bodyguard seriously. After all, she's the only one who can clear his father of the king's murder. It doesn't matter that the princess's beauty and strength draw him to her. To a commoner like him, she can never be more than a mission. Now he's in a race to restore the princess to her rightful place on the throne before the unknown killer prematurely ends her reign.

My Review:

Who doesn't love a princess in peril plot line? And when she's in continuous danger it just ups the ante, as far as I'm concerned. Enter Ronin, formerly of the Royal Guard, determined to protect the hapless princess from an increasing threat...oh, wait...scratch that hapless part. This princess is anything but. She's resourceful, assertive and capable and she'll do her own rescuing, thank you very much. Ronin has no idea how much trouble one princess-in-hiding can be...Trouble with a capital T. An engaging read that held me captive until the very last page.

FATAL FREEZE

Deadly reunion...

CIA agent Shaun Carter is on the trail of an international crime ring, and the sudden appearance of a woman from his past could jeopardize his mission. Missing persons investigator Lexie Reilly's search for a missing teen has put her in the criminals' crosshairs. Joining forces to take down this ring is their only chance of survival. Shaun vows to keep the beautiful investigator out of harm's way and help her find the lost girl. But when their ferry becomes icebound, they are trapped at sea with killers who will stop at nothing to keep them from discovering their secrets.

My Review:

How can you not love a story riddled with descriptors like this: "He bristled at the intrusion into his personal space, but their difference in height made it seem as though he was being stalked by a kitten." (p.12) Brings a chuckle in the midst of all that building tension. A really gripping premise develops into a page-turning reading experience as the suspense...and romance...grow more intriguing. And being trapped on a stranded ship with a killer adds an extra thrill. A complicated and edgy plot with plenty of detailed action scenes kept me on the edge of my seat. And so did identifying the villain before Shaun and Lexie! Another intrepid literary duo who refused to heed my warnings!
