Finding Her Voice

GIVEAWAY

GARTSHORE, DONNA
FINDING HER VOICE

Overcoming their differences could be the answer to all their problems.

Bridget Connelly dreams of being her boss's veterinary clinic and starting her own business -- but so does auditor Sawyer Blume. Despite her trust issues toward men, it's hard to stay rivals when Sawyer's traumatized daughter bonds with Bridget's adorable pup. And when another buyer tries to outbid them both, working together might give them everything they want...including each other.

My Review:

Yay -- a contemporary romance set in Canada! A rare gem indeed. And you gotta love a single dad hero who struggles to bring healing to his traumatized daughter. Sawyer and little Delilah tugged at every last one of my heart strings!

So, new town with fresh perspectives -- Sawyer is testing the waters with a temporary job before committing to the upheaval a major move would cause in his little family's life. But a certain golden retriever named Sophie makes the transition way easier than he thought it could be. Only there's a catch -- Sophie's owner, Bridget, a woman who has the power to shake up all his plans and future ambitions.

There are so many emotional layers to this story! Both Sawyer and Bridget have issues in their past that need to be worked through before they can be free to commit. And they both tend to shy away from those obstacles instead of facing them head on. But, oh, the lure of romance is strong and the small town setting makes the perfect backdrop. All the while Sophie works her healing doggie magic on a grieving little girl.

Happy Sigh. The kind of feel-good escape read that will leave you basking in warm fuzzies.

Instant Father

GIVEAWAY
GARTSHORE, DONNA
INSTANT FATHER

This new father has a lot to learn...and she's perfect for the job

Bachelor Paul Belvedere is overwhelmed with raising his orphaned young nephew. Fortunately, he's found an ally in violet-eyed teacher Charlotte Connelly. Paul might even be able to trust her with his shameful secret. But when he discovers that Charlotte is planning on leaving town on a mission trip., Paul is caught between saying goodbye...or teaching her an important lesson on love.

My Review:

Gotta love a guy who is determined to do right by his nephew even though he feels he's the wrong man for the job. Paul's struggle to believe in himself is thwarted by the weight of a secret he's been carrying around. His story sparked my book-loving heart and I kept urging him to just tell Charlotte already but did he? Groan...not for the longest time. Men! Gah! And once he did, did it make everything better? Nope. Because...Charlotte...gah! lol I migth have a bald patch thanks to these two. So determined to do things their way instead of leaning into the Lord. Love that this book addresses that plaguing dilemma of knowing how to choose between more than one right thing. I enjoyed the faith thread as much as I did the romance.

Instant Family

GARTSHORE, DONNA
INSTANT FAMILY

The single mom next door

Summer at a picturesque Silver Lake resort marks a new beginning for Frankie Munro and her daughter. After a painful marriage, the single mom shies away from any personal connection -- thous she admires the tender care handsome neighbor Ben Cedar shows his dad. Ben wasn't there for his mother when it counted, so he's determined to help his father cope with Alzheimer's. Yet it's Frankie's shy ten-year-old daughter, Rae, who really gets through to his dad. As their relatives bond and flourish, so do Ben and Frankie's feeling for each other. Before the season ends, can they let go of their pasts and fight for a second chance...together?

My Review:

Another debut novel -- that's 3 this week! Exciting to discover new talent in the Christian publishing industry.

A touching, sweet and hopeful story that celebrates God meeting us in all the hard places in this life. It's much more than a love story -- in fact, I'd say the romance isn't as pronounced as you usually find in a Love Inspired novel. This is more about the hesitant journey towards an unexpected friendship that has the power to develop into something much deeper.

But the timing -- even if it's God's timing -- seems completely off to Frankie and Ben. She's wary because she's newly divorced and trying to bring some stability back into her daughter's life while figuring out what their future is going to look like. And Ben is overwhelmed with the 24/7 care of a father stricken by Alzheimer's. His hopes of recreating some happy summer memories with his dad take on many unexpected twists and turns as he grapples with the increasing severity of the disease.

Gartshore draws on her own experience coping with her father's struggle with Alzheimer's and she really conveys the frustration, heartache and even humour that comes from dealing with this condition. It was an eyeopening and emotional read for that reason. Definitely a difficult backdrop for a romance but then, love doesn't always come calling at the most convenient times, does it? Which is maybe the point -- that we need to grab hold of the good things in life while we can and trust in God with the rest.
