Texas Ranch Refuge

GIVEAWAY

SHOAF, LIZ
TEXAS RANCH REFUGE

A cowboy and his dog must keep a witness safe...even as he investigates her.

When cowboy Mac Dolan and his dog, Barnie, stop an attempted abduction, Mac is surprised to learn the target is attorney Liv Calloway -- the woman the FBI contacted him to investigate. Letting Liv hide on his ranch is the perfect way to keep her close. But even as he protects her, Mac must figure out whether Live is a murderer...or a witness being targeted.

My Review:

Squealling overdose of cover cuteness alert! And Barnie, the big lug, is pawsitively the kind of canine heroes are made of. :-) His human backup isn't half bad either. And there's romance in store for both of them if they all survive.

The nail-biting opening scene sets the pace for this page-turning suspense.  Relentless bad guys (and I do mean relentless!) wreck no end of havoc for Liv and Mac.

They used to be neighbours until she moved away for college and became a city girl through and through. Mac has a bad history with city girls so he's not about to get ensnared by another one. Ha! So we have chaotic romance paired with chaotic suspense which makes for some heart palpitating scenes that may require the need for supplemental oxygen. And when you're not gasping for air you'll likely be doubled over with laughter.

Oh, and did I mention Mac has brothers? Just saying'...

Texas Ranch Sabotage

GIVEAWAY

SHOAF, LIZ
TEXAS RANCH SABOTAGE

With her family and her ranch at stake, can she trust him with her secrets?

Someone's dead set on sabotaging Tempe Calloway's ranch, even if it means hurting her or her little girl in the process. Special agent Ewen Duncan doesn't trust Tempe, but he's sure the attacks have something to do with why the single mother took something from his home in Scotland. And he'll risk evrything to keep her safe...and uncover her secrets.

My Review:

I grinned my fool head off the whole read through. Even during the crazy dangerous action scenes because...Tempe! She's an intriguing mix of Annie Oakley and Amazon warrior and nobody messes with her family! She's confidently competent and definitely outspoken. No shrinking violets in the making of this story! And, oh my, does she ever clash with Ewen...at first.

And speaking of Scottish heroes with an air of mystery...cue the toe curls and grab your fans! Not only is this hero a secret agent, he's also a writer of thrilling suspense novels! Which I found to be a delightfully lethal combination.

Both hero and heroine harbour secrets which readers are privy to almost from the very start so it was fun to watch them talk around each other with wary distrust. I do so love a good verbal sparring match!

Throw in a precocious little girl, a rump nipping Australian Shepherd (don't judge Kylo too harshly, he's in training) and an action-packed suspense and this is the kind of book destined to keep a reader on the edge right to the very end.

All kinds of bibliophile wonderfulness!

Holiday Mountain Conspiracy

GIVEAWAY
SHOAF, LIZ
HOLIDAY MOUNTAIN CONSPIRACY

Unraveling secrets is their mission...but the truth can be fatal.

After his last CIA assignment ended in betrayal, the covert operative known only as Ned holes up for Christmas in his remote mountain cabin, preparing to trap the men hunting him. But journalist Mary Grace Ramsey reaches Ned first, injured and determined to uncover why someone is after her and her CIA agent brother. Together, can they unravel a conspiracy that goes higher than they ever imagined?

My Review:

An embittered covert operative with trust issues.
A quirky chatterbox with a tenacious streak.
A 'rat dog' in a Christmas sweater.
A war hero K-9 who keeps an eye on everyone.

Seriously, how can an avid romantic suspense reader resist Liz Shoaf's latest masterpiece?! I snorted and guffawed as often as I ducked and cringed through this unconventional romantic suspense. Treachery and treason with a kinda 'Alias' (TV show 2001-2006) vibe that'a a whole lot of fun!

And the romance? Okay -- they have some issues. He knows she's smart -- but the jury's out  on whether she's friend or foe. And after what Ned's been through -- he's not big on trust. Mary Grace might acknowledge an attraction but it's easy to ignore when Ned continuously displays the "manners of a warthog." (p 29) "Uptown girl meets gruff mountain man" (p 42) about sums it up. I didn't know it was possible to laugh and swoon at the same time until I met this pair. And the dogs' antics are icing on the cake.

A brilliantly funny page-turner that sizzles and sparks!

Identity: Classified

GIVEAWAY
SHOAF, LIZ
IDENTITY: CLASSIFIED

Uncovering the past may be the only way to survive

After security specialist Chloe Spencer witnesses a murder on her webcam, the killer faces the camera with a threat: return his disc, or she's next. Unsure what he's after, Chloe uses an alias and runs...until she lands in Sheriff Ethan Hoyt's jurisdiction. When the killer finds her, Chloe must stand alone or trust Ethan -- with the secrets of her past, her life...and her heart.

My Review:

So, this doesn't happen often...in fact maybe never...but I had to stop reading and hustle over to my computer to start writing this review because I am over-the-moon-crazy about this kick-butt heroine! She's delightfully unexpected and has succeeded in discombobulating Sheriff Hoyt from their very first meet. "He'd just made a fool of himself and could only chalk it up to the sudden appearance of Dorothy carting Toto around on a motorcycle." (p 14) And little Geordie -- 15 pounds of fierce attack poodle! What a hoot! And these are just my first impressions after reading chapter one!

"Chloe hadn't been around many kids during her adult life, but she did train dogs and knew a thing or two." (p 99) Bwahahaha!!! I LOVE Chloe -- she's tough and scrappy and smart-mouthed. Poor Ethan doesn't know what to make of her. He doesn't trust her but he's not willing to leave her to her own devices and possibly get killed either. And his internal observations are hysterical! Love me some dry wit in the middle of angsty chaos!

Be still my heart -- Geordie!!! He's the true hero of this romantic suspense (sorry, Ethan, rest assured you come in at a close second!) This little canine packs as much 'tude as his mama and brought so much fun to the read!

Honestly -- Identity: Classified is sheer brilliance. In my top ten of fave Love Inspired Suspense novels ever. Really.

Betrayed Birthright

GIVEAWAY
SHOAF, LIZ
BETRAYED BIRTHRIGHT

Secret heritage

Abigail Mayfield hopes her stalker won't follow her to Texas -- until someone breaks into her new home, leaving behind a photo of her late parents with a mysterious child. This time, with her guard dog at her side, the widowed music teacher refuses to hide. She can't uncover why someone is after her by herself, though, not when the threat escalates from break-ins to attempts on her life. After saving her from a sniper's bullet, FBI agent turned small-town sheriff Noah Galloway makes Abigail's safety his personal mission. With the investigation taking them cross-country on the trail of her long-dead parents, the widowed single father can't risk leaving his son an orphan. But Abigail needs him...because somewhere, buried deep in her past, lies a secret worth killing for.

My Review:

Goodness, but the mysteries have mysteries in this multi-layered romantic suspense. Hard to believe that this is Liz Shoaf''s debut with Love Inspired! And not only that but she trains dogs so, of course, we have a canine hero in this story. (And we all know how enamored I am over dogs!) So meet Bates, Belgian Malinois extraordinaire. Protection is his specialty but furry hugs and warm, wet kisses run a close second.

And yes, even though I was fangirling all over that noble furry beast, I did happen to notice a certain tenacious ex-FBI/current sheriff with a protective streak of his own. Dedicated and passionate about his work, he is not about to let anything happen to his 'steel magnolia'. Be still my heart -- a man who likes a woman with a feisty streak. Fireworks mingle with gunshots as sparks fly off the pages in this riveting suspense.
