The Hero's Sweetheart

GIVEAWAY

WYATT, CHERYL
THE HERO'S SWEETHEART

His perfect match...

Military commander Jack Sullenberger is used to saving the day. But when his father has a stroke in his beloved small-town diner, it's waitress and EMT student Olivia Abbott coming to the rescue. Jack rushes home to tend to his father and take over the business -- running right into Olivia's very strong opinions. The steely military man and the waitress can't agree on what's best for the restaurant. When Jack sees something that shakes his growing trust in Olivia, their undeniable connection is put to the test. But if Jack's open to the truth, they'll have a chance at finding a future together.

Eagle Point Emergency: Saving lives -- and losing their hearts -- in a small Illinois town

My Review:

Olivia is such a complex heroine -- she has a big heart and generous spirit and a quirky sense of humour. And she definitely has her own unique sense of style. Her outward appearance (and the book cover doesn't do her justice at all!) is what throws Jack off at their first meet. These two seemed destined to leap to wrong conclusions about each other all the way through the book. Mind you they are their own worst enemy as well since some simple communication and an iota of trust would go a long way to clearing some of their issues up. Gotta love two stubborn people fighting destiny. A wonderful, funny, annoying, emotional carry-me-away-from-reality kind of a read.

The Nurse's Secret Suitor

GIVEAWAY

WYATT, CHERYL
THE NURSE'S SECRET SUITOR

A Strong-Willed Heart

Trauma nurse Kate Dalton can handle any challenge—except love. The combat veteran dreams of settling down, but heartbreak is one risk she won't take. Then a chance encounter opens her heart to a masked stranger…who might not be a stranger after all! Caleb Landis, the army medic behind the disguise, has always admired Kate, even though she only saw him as her best friend's brother. What will it take for Kate to discard her fears and discover the man she's always hoped to unmask?

Eagle Point Emergency:  Saving lives—and losing their hearts— in a small Illinois town

My Review:

I just love the precept in this novel! Having Caleb masquerade as Kate's secret admirer was so romantic and edgy and it upped the angstometer big time. I desperately wanted Kate to figure out the mystery of the masked man, but at the same time, I so enjoyed the novelty of her not knowing. And it really put poor Caleb through the wringer living a double life. So much fun! Talk about taking a romance to a new level!

Eagle Point Emergency: Saving lives-and losing their hearts-in a small Illinois town

My Review:

Soul-searching emotion propels the plot along at a riveting pace. The strength of this novel is in the characters and the community they build together. Bri and Ian are at the heart of it all, struggling to find their way amidst conflict and difficulties.  An inspiring read that will provide an inner warmth on a chilly winter evening.

The Doctor's Devotion

GIVEAWAY

WYATT, CHERYL
THE DOCTOR'S DEVOTION

When he fled Eagle Point years ago, former air force trauma surgeon Mitch Wellington left only broken dreams behind. Now he's back with a new dream—opening a trauma center in the rural area and saving lives. He hopes to hire the quick-thinking nurse who impressed him during an emergency. But Lauren Bates lost her faith and doesn't believe she deserves to help anyone. Mitch knows firsthand what loss feels like. And it'll take all his devotion to show Lauren that sometimes the best medicine is a combination of faith, community—and love.

My Review:

Wyatt writes emotionally charged romances that quickly sweep a reader away which makes The Doctor's Devotion a perfect summer escape read. Loved the tantalizing connection between Mitch and Lauren that slowly develops as the story progresses. But both are stubbornly clinging to their long lists of why a relationship won't work which effectively douses flames, but leaves smouldering embers to rise again. Frustrating and exciting and compelling.

The medical setting makes for a refreshing change from other books out this summer. And it's made all the more real by Wyatt's nursing background. Not only does she capture the nature of the work, but the spirit of it as well. An all round good read that contemporary romance lovers won't want to miss.

A Soldier's Reunion

WYATT, CHERYL
A SOLDIER'S REUNION

Despite a decade apart, this isn't the reunion Mandy Manchester expected! She thought she'd put high school sweetheart Nolan Briggs behind her. Now he's back...and the pararescue jumper literally sweeps her off her feet. He's ready and willing to rekindle what they once shared. Mandy, though, isn't prepared to put her heart at risk. He left her before -- she won't trust him again. Can Nolan teach this grounded girl to take a leap of faith?

I SEEM TO BE READING THE WINGS OF REFUGE SERIES BACKWARDS! I JUST GOT MY HANDS ON THIS ONE THANKS TO A WIN AT SEEKERVILLE AND COULDN'T WAIT TO READ IT. CHERYL WYATT HAS SUCH A GIFT FOR STORYTELLING. SHE SOMEHOW MANAGES TO CONVEY SO MUCH EMOTION WITH HER CAREFULLY CRAFTED WORDS AND IT'S DEFINITELY EMOTION THAT PROPELS THE PLOT IN A SOLDIER'S REUNION.

THE FACT THAT NOLAN AND MANDY WERE HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEARTS WITH A HURTFUL PAST HURDLE US INTO ANGST IN THE VERY FIRST CHAPTER. MANDY'S CONFUSION AND PAIN IS PALPABLE; NOLAN'S NEW-FOUND RESOLVE EXCITING. HE CAN'T LEAVE THE PAST BEHIND THEM AND THE WAY HE SETS OUT TO WOE MANDY BACK IS SUCH A ROMANTIC READ! AND THE PROPOSAL! BE STILL MY HEART!!! SO CREATIVE AND TOUCHING. ANOTHER ENJOYABLE READ BY CHERYL WYATT...AND DEFINITELY ONE TO SAVOR.

Steadfast Soldier

WYATT, CHERYL
STEADFAST SOLDIER

Rescuing people is his job but the one person pararescue jumper Chance Garrison can't seem to help is his own ailing father, who refuses his much-needed physical rehabilitation. That is, until Chance hires unconventional occupational therapist Chloe Callet. To his surprise, Chloe and her sweet black Lab, Midnight, work wonders. And not only on the elder Garrison. Chance just may have met the woman who can get through his own toughened exterior. Can he persuade the lovely Chloe to take a chance -- on him?

CHERYL WYATT DOESN'T JUST USE WORDS TO TELL A STORY, SHE CRAFTS WITH THEM. HER PACING, DETAIL AND DIALOGUE DELIVER A TIGHT PLOT WITH IMPRESSIVE IMPACT. SUCCINCT WORD CHOICE STILL PACKS A WALLOP WITHOUT ROBBING THE READER OF AN EMOTIONAL CONNECTION WITH HER CHARACTERS.

AND CHERYL EXCELS AT CHARACTERIZATION. SHE CREATES THOUGHT-PROVOKING PEOPLE WHO ARE STRUGGLING TO FIND THEIR WAY THROUGH DIFFICULT TIMES.

AS A ROMANTIC HERO, CHANCE GARRISON IS SUBLIME. CHERYL CONTRASTS HIS STRENGTHS WITH FEARS AND EXPOSES VULNERABILITIES THAT MAKE HIM BELIEVABLE AND VERY, VERY APPEALING. CHLOE CALLET HAS HER OWN BRAND OF STRENGTH BUT IS ALSO EMOTIONALLY FRAGILE. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE BOOK THEIR NEEDS AND DESIRES FOR THE FUTURE ARE DEFINITELY AT ODDS. PART OF THE JOY OF THIS READING JOURNEY IS DISCOVERING HOW CHERYL STACKS THOSE ODDS IN THEIR FAVOUR TO ENSURE A HAPPILY EVER AFTER ENDING.

THE ROMANTIC CONNECTION BETWEEN CHLOE AND CHANCE IS IMMEDIATE, BUT FRAUGHT WITH COMPLICATIONS. THAT DOESN'T STOP THE SLOW SIZZLE THAT GRADUALLY FANS INTO A DEEPLY-COMMITTED, GOD-CENTERED LOVE.

DEFINITELY AN INCREDIBLE READ THAT TRANSPORTED ME STRAIGHT INTO THE PAGES OF THE BOOK AND I DIDN'T WANT TO COME OUT!!! FROM PLOT, TO CHARACTERIZATION, TO ROMANCE, STEADFAST SOLDIER IS TOTALLY CAPTIVATING.

A Soldier's Devotion

WYATT, CHERYL
A SOLDIER'S DEVOTION

An accidental meeting : U. S. Air Force pararescue jumper Vince Reardon was headed to a lifesaving mission. Until a too-pretty lawyer crashed her fancy car into his motorcycle -- sidelining him for two weeks. Vince can barely accept Valentina Russo's heartfelt apologies. Ever since his brother was wrongly convicted -- and killed -- in prison -- Vince has lost respect for lawyers. But wait -- is that Val volunteering as his refuge for underprivileged kids? If Vince isn't careful, this lady of the law might just earn his respect and his heart.

A SOLDIER'S DEVOTION HAD ME ENTHRALLED FROM THE GRIPPING FIRST PAGE TO THE HEART-WARMING CONCLUSION. THE SOLID ISSUES THAT VINCE AND VAL BATTLE ELEVATE THIS BOOK FROM AN ENJOYABLE LOVE STORY (THOUGH IT IS THAT) TO AN INCREDIBLE AND UPLIFTING MUST-READ.

IT IS FILLED WITH THE STUFF GOOD BOOKS ARE MADE OF -- TENDER MOMENTS...ROMANTIC TENSION PULLED SO TAUT THAT YOU'RE SQUIRMING. IN FACT, THE BOOK IS PEPPERED WITH DROP-DEAD, HEAR-PALPITATING MOMENTS WORTHY OF A FULL BLOWN SWOON! BUT CHERYL ALSO ALLEVIATES TENSION WITH HILARIOUS, LAUGH-OUT-LOUD SCENES.

WHAT STRUCK ME MOST AS I READ THIS BOOK WAS CHERYL'S ABILITY TO CREATE TWO DISTINCTLY DIFFERENT CHARACTERS WITH HER EXQUISITE CHOICE OF WORDS.

VINCE IS A MEMORABLE HERO. HE IS ANGRY, BITTER AND HURTING AND HASN'T LET GO OF HIS PAST. THIS IS CONVEYED BY TERSE, SINGLE WORD SENTENCES PUNCTUATED BY FRAGMENTS OF THOUGHTS. GRITTY AND REALISTIC, IT HAD MY HEART POUNDING IN FEAR FOR VAL EVEN THOUGH I KNEW VINCE WAS GOING TO BE THE LOVE INTEREST.

BY CONTRAST, VAL'S THOUGHTS AND WORDS ARTICULATELY FLOW WITH EMOTION AND COMPASSION. THIS TECHNIQUE CARRIES THROUGHOUT THE STORY UNTIL VINCE BEGINS TO CHANGE. AS HE GROWS SO DO HIS THOUGHTS AND WORDS WHICH ARE CONSTRUCTED INTO LONGER SENTENCES THAT GIVE US A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF THIS MAN. I THINK THIS IS A FANTASTIC TECHNIQUE TO CONVEY GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT IN A CHARACTER. IT ALSO SHOWS HOW FAR APART VAL AND VINCE ARE AT THE BEGINNING OF A SOLDIER'S DEVOTION AND HOW UNITED THEY BECAME BY THE END OF THE BOOK.

CHERYL TELLS THIS STORY WITH COMPASSION BORN OF AN UNDERSTANDING HEART WHICH DEFINITELY MAKES IT STAND OUT AMONG OTHER CONTEMPORARY ROMANCES. A BRILLIANT BOOK BY A BRILLIANT AUTHOR.
