Mountain Country Courtship

GIVEAWAY
KAYE, GLYNNA
MOUNTAIN COUNTRY COURTSHIP

His Hometown Romance

After being jilted at the altar, the last place Denny Hunter wants to be is in his hometown. Yet he's back in Hunter Ridge renovating a run-down old inn with the lovely Lillian Keene. He doesn't know she's a runaway bride - or that her niece has serious matchmaking plans. But in this Heart of Hunter Ridge book, Denny and Lillian discover that the most important restoration starts with the heart.

My Review

A contemporary romance that features a home reno theme? I'm totally in! And in love with this ramshackle inn that just needs a bit of TLC to make it shine again.

Lillian is trying to keep up with all the changes in her life. Caring for an ailing aunt, being substitute mum to her hurting niece and trying to keep the inn afloat so they all have a roof over their heads. Romance is the last thing on this runaway bride's mind.

There's something about a wounded hero that plays havoc with my romance-loving heart. Having lived through his parents' messy divorce as a young child, Denny has spent a lifetime looking for a place to belong. Over-achieving in a bid to meet his stepfather's approval, estranged from his biological father and his extended family...well, let's just say that navigating the rough waters of family dysfunction takes all of Denny's time and attention. Meaning he is just as adverse to romance as Lillian is.  These two clash from the get go but that's okay because this rough start romance is peppered with a mix of sass, angst and laughter. And a cute little matchmaker who has dreams of her own.

Can she create a loving family with the man who's claiming her future?

Hearts of Hunter Ridge: Finding true love in Arizona mountain country

My Review:

Blissful sigh. This Princess and Cowboy have me all twitterpated. Toe-curling and infuriating all wrapped up in a bushel full of emotion. I wanted to knock heads and hug-smother them in turn. Rio because she's so quick to judge and gnarly stubborn. Cash because he thinks Rio deserves someone better than him and he's gnarly stubborn too. Gah! You don't get much better than Cash for hero material though! Except Rio won't trust her gut and believe in him...at first. Okay, so she might have some history that leads her to be wary but still...Gah! (you might say this is a gah-licious read!) I do so love being antsy over characters' behaviour in a story.

Both hero and heroine have been wounded in their pasts and they carry those scars into a burgeoning new relationship. It's awkward and painful and sweet and poignant. And even though their faith sustains them, it doesn't mean they are always in tune with the promptings of the Spirit. Sometimes they are just plain o' deer-in-the-headlights stuck when it comes to seeking inspiration.

Kaye takes a heart wrenching look at ways we try to bargain with God. I think if we're honest, we all have tried to manipulate outcomes by promising God something in order to get something. Even if it is for a greater good, it's still trying to bend God to our will. But oh, it is so hard to trust that He is sovereign. To bend our will to His when we don't have the advantage of seeing the bigger picture.

Heartwarming and inspirational with a whole lot of toe curls along the way.

The Nanny Bargain

GIVEAWAY

KAYE, GLYNNA
THE NANNY BARGAIN

Falling for the Boss

Concerned for his orphaned twin brothers, outdoor-gear shop owner Sawyer Banks urges new employee Tori Jansen to apply for the nanny position their grandparents are advertising...and spy for him. With plans to start over in Hunter Ridge and dreams of reviving her quilting business, Tori takes the job -- but refuses to report to Sawyer unless the boys' welfare is in danger. But soon it's her own heart that's in jeopardy. Because after spending time with the committed bachelor, she starts to see the depth behind his easy charm -- and begins to imagine herself as his wife.

Hearts of Hunter Ridge: Finding true love in Arizona mountain country

My Review:

This is the fourth book in the Hearts of Hunter Ridge and I really enjoyed my visit back to Arizona mountain country. Each book in the series reads perfectly fine as a standalone so no worries about playing catch-up -- unless, of course, you like stellar contemporary romance, In which case you should definitely back-track and pick up the three previous books. :-)

What an interesting conundrum Sawyer puts Tori in. At first I was righteously indignant at his audacity but then I got to know him and realized his heart was in the right place. If only he could connect it with his brain and use words to sort things out! LOL But then he wouldn't need Tori and she wouldn't feel torn loyalties and the angst-factor wouldn't have been as edgy and...well...the story wouldn't have been as excellent! So, overall, I guess the author knew what she was doing. :-)

Sawyer's never been commitment material. Tori has ambitions that don't include romance. But when these two are thrown together in the company of adorable twin boys, well, magic happens. The Nanny Bargain has all the ingredients of a captivating read including a swoonworthy hero paired with an all too stubborn heroine. Then there are all the engaging secondary characters and the whole story is set against a background of community and faith. Awesomesauce in 217 pages!

The Pastor's Christmas Courtship

GIVEAWAY

KAYE, GLYNNA
THE PASTOR'S CHRISTMAS COURTSHIP

Her holiday homecoming

Jodi Thorpe's childhood vacation cabin seems the perfect place for her to heal her broken heart...and avoid Christmas cheer. After twelve years, nothing in Hunter Ridge has changed -- except Garrett McCrae. The bad boy who was once her secret crush is now the town minister. And Garrett won't let her miss out on all the hope and joy the holiday brings. With every day he's drawn to the vulnerable woman Jodi's become, even as he's about to leave for a mission halfway around the world. But as they grow closer, their plans begin to change. Can Garrett make it a season to remember, with a love they can't forget?

My Review:

An absolutely priceless Christmas gem. I got goosebumps and teared up at one point as Kaye conveyed the ultimate peace that one special baby brings -- not just on Christmas Eve but all through the year.

Christmas is at the heart of the story and so is God's will -- and both are subjects that Jodi has to grapple with as she finds her faith floundering. Hiding away at the family's vacation cabin seems like the perfect way to lick her wounds and come to grips with her reality once and for all. She's looking for quality hermit time but, of course, God has other plans and we all know His will is sovereign.
Cue the heartthrob pastor who has some issues of his own.  What results is an emotionally engaging and spiritually uplifting story perfect for the holiday season.

Claiming the Single Mom's Heart

GIVEAWAY

KAYE, GLYNNA
CLAIMING THE SINGLE MOM'S HEART

Sunshine Carston is looking for more than beautiful scenery when she moves with her daughter to Hunter Ridge, Arizona. She's looking for answers. According to family legend, her ancestors were cheated out of their land by the Hunter family. But when she meets Grady Hunter, Sunshine's mission is endangered -- how can she investigate the Hunters when she is falling for one? When Grady's mother becomes ill, Grady steps in to help her run against Sunshine for town council. But what will Grady say when he finds out about Sunshine's investigation? To rise above the past and forge a future together, they'll need a love stronger than any feud...

Hearts of Hunter Ridge: Finding true love in Arizona mountain country

My Review:

This is the kind of story that keeps you mildly uncomfortable (in a good way) because you are constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. I just wanted to sit Sunshine down and give her a good talking to. Explain how she's jeopardizing her future happiness by carrying on with her underhanded dirt digging on the Hunters. Deception never ends well and the author gave me some agonizing moments. I'm a tad hoarse from shouting warnings that fell on deaf ears.

This is the second book in the Hearts of Hunter Ridge series. Love the family interaction -- great scenes filled with teasing and laughter and sometimes angst. They are a force to be reckoned with. Grady is grounded in his roots while Sunshine is busy digging for hers. A really interesting contrast between the two. And yet they are similar in other ways -- both harboring distrust from wounded pasts -- both reluctantly attracted to the other with no hope of a future until they learn to let go and let God.

And sweet little Tessa is adorable. There are some heart-melting hero moments between Grady and Sunshine's daughter. I'm a puddle of goo just thinking about that little girl trust in the big tough outdoorsman. A blissful read for the discerning contemporary romance lover.

Rekindling the Widower's Heart

GIVEAWAY

KAYE, GLYNNA
REKINDLING THE WIDOWER'S HEART

A future to build on...

All widower Luke Hunter wants is to raise his three kids -- and be left alone. When Delaney Marks arrives in town to oversee the youth group's house renovation project, Luke decides he must come out of hiding. He's worried she's too young to get the job done. He'll have to keep a close watch on her -- and on his heart. Because being with the vibrant girl makes it easy to forget their age difference and to start hoping for a future he doesn't deserve. As tensions rise over project pressures, Delaney tries to make Luke see that some things are just out of his control -- and that he is worthy of happiness...with her.

My Review:

Gah! Luke Hunter is clueless. Really. Clueless. He's so invested in controlling everything that he doesn't recognize the damage he's doing to himself -- and his children. Argh, I wanted to throttle him. A lot. But at the same time I felt sorry for him because the more he tries to take control the more things unravel beyond his grasp.

Unwittingly, Delaney is at the heart of that unraveling. Sparks sizzle between the two from their very first meet but Luke is in major denial. He has lots of excuses, not the least of which is their age difference. But really, he's just piling up barriers -- a defence mechanism he's completely unaware of. At first.

That leaves Delaney in a constant state of confusion, trying to work through the mixed messages she's receiving from Luke. She's not afraid to go at it with him -- toe to toe. Speaking her mind. Standing her ground. And she calls him on his judgemental views more than a time or two.

In case you think I didn't like Luke, you're wrong. I liked him. Too much. So when he did something...stupid...I wasn't just a little disappointed. I was really disappointed. But isn't that so like real life? People build their lives around past hurts and perceived failures. They'll do incomprehensible things to protect themselves and their loved ones from any more harm.

The only solution to such a heartbreaking dilemma is to let God take control. That's a hard lesson for both Luke and Delaney to learn...and for me too, because in some ways I'm like Luke. Fussing and holding onto things I should have let go a long time ago. Come to think of it, that similarity is probably why I wanted to throttle Luke so much. :-)

Love when I find sweet nuggets of inspiration amidst my fiction!

High Country Holiday

GIVEAWAY

KAYE, GLYNNA
HIGH COUNTRY HOLIDAY

When Cody Hawk returns to Canyon Springs, Arizona, to make peace with his ailing  father, his bad-boy reputation is still intact. So is his love for the woman he was  forced to leave behind. But the privileged Paris Perslow is still off-limits. When  Paris needs his help with the annual holiday gala, Cody braves the town's disapproving glances for a second chance with his first love. Years ago Cody promised he'd return for her. But with everyone and everything against them, what will it take to prove to Paris that his love is the perfect gift?

My Review:

This novel has all the elements of a classically good Christmas story. A hero who can't live down his family's past and a small town with a long collective memory.  A heroine trying too hard to please everyone around her -- to the point that she almost loses hope of her own dreams for the future. Oh, and she's part of the town's elite -- a stark contrast to the hero's 'trailer park' roots. Talk about ranking the angstometer into overload! A captivating story that pulled at my heart strings. I was alternating between swooning in romantic euphoria and fuming in outrage over small-minded prejudice.  Gobbled this one up in an afternoon.

Pine Country Cowboy

GIVEAWAY

KAYE, GLYNNA
PINE COUNTRY COWBOY

No Place Like Home

Abby Diaz longs to reestablish a relationship with her father, so she heads to Canyon Springs, her Arizona hometown, with a painful past she can't share with anyone. But then she's needed to care for her young nephew. The little boy takes a shine to a happy-go-lucky cowboy, a handsome man who's everything Abby can never have. The more time she spends with Brett, the more she realizes he's harboring a heartache of his own. As she works on repairing family ties with her father, Abby knows that opening up to Brett is key to forging a new future…together.

My Review:

Buckle up for an emotionally rocky ride! This cowboy is wrangling some pretty raw emotions and you're going to feel for him. Deeply. Such a sad, but hopeful, story line. Abby is coming to terms with a pretty raw deal as well -- completely not the best time to meet Mr. Right...or wait...maybe it's a God thing. I was rooting for them both as I witnessed their struggles and triumphs on their way to that coveted happily ever after.

Kaye knows how to reach this reader's heart and Pine Country Cowboy totally wrecked havoc on mine. It's the kind of read you want to devour in one sitting because there just isn't a good place to stop. And even when I reached the end, I didn't want it to be over. I just love it when an author creates characters that become living breathing people and my new best friends!

A Canyon Springs Courtship

GIVEAWAY
KAYE, GLYNNA
A CANYON SPRINGS COURTSHIP

A Love Reunited

Councilman Jake Talford is determined to protect his small Arizona town. Even if that means keeping a close eye on former sweetheart Macy Colston. Macy has come to Canyon Springs to get the scoop for her popular blog Hometowns with Heart. The rest of the town council hopes it will bring in the tourists. But Jake's worried she'll turn local gossip into public scandal. He and Macy once shared dreams of a future together. Now it's up to Jake to make her see what's most important in life—love, faith and truth.

My Review:

I love the unique premise at the base of this story. A stroke of genius on the author's part I think -- having the heroine be the author of a high-traffic blog. It really brings a fresh perspective to the plot.

I also love the fact that Jake and Macy have a history...one that ended badly. Talk about upping the angst factor. Tension just crackled off the page every time they shared a scene. And poor Jake kept sticking his foot in his mouth which only served to raise Macy's defensive hackles. Sometimes that made me laugh out loud and sometimes I just wanted to clunk their heads together and admonish them to play nice. :-)

Kaye does a magnificent job of weaving a taut tale about forgiveness, love and second chances. This is the kind of read you'll want to power through and whoosh out a sigh of pure satisfaction when you reach the end.

Look-Alike Lawman

GIVEAWAY

KAYE, GLYNNA
LOOK-ALIKE LAWMAN

A Little Boy’s Hero.

When big-city cop Grayson Wallace visits an elementary school for career day, he finds his heartstrings unexpectedly tugged by a six-year-old fatherless boy. Gray offers to mentor the child, but widowed mother Elise Lopez wants nothing to do with men in uniform. Now he can’t get the struggling Lopezes off his mind. All he can think about is what family means—especially after discovering the identical twin brother he hadn’t known he had in Grasslands. Maybe a trip to ranch country is just what he, Elise and
little Cory need.

My Review:

This is the kind of story that will tug at your heartstrings long after you close the book. Cory is the sweetest little guy and his earnest pursuit of a friendship with Grayson is so endearing. Such a contrast to his reluctant and overly cautious mom. That conflict really ups the angstometer -- especially when you
throw in Gray's trepidation about getting involved with a single mom.

I could really relate to Elise's struggles to be independent. So intent on making it on her own to the point of refusing help even when she needed it. And Gray's knight-in-shining-armor gene kept kicking in and trying to fix things. Such a guy thing but oooohhhh such the wrong thing to do for an independent lady. Talk about sparks flying!

Kaye expertly weaves their romance through a complex plot that includes characters from previous books by different authors in the Texas Twins series. No need to read the others first -- I didn't, but am now clamoring to do so.

High Country Hearts

GIVEAWAY

KAYE, GLYNNA
HIGH COUNTRY HEARTS

The last person she expected to see...

Her old college crush in Canyon Springs! When Olivia Diaz promised her parents she'd manage their mountain cabin resort for the summer, she thought she'd find some direction for her life. She didn't expect to be working side by side with Rob McGuire.

Rob's as handsome -- and as guarded -- as ever. Can free spirit Olivia gets him to open up about his life, his faith...his mysterious past? Because the more time they spend together the more Olivia realizes Rob could be Mr. Forever.

My Review:

This is the kind of book you are tempted to speed-read through, but resist that urge and savor every minute of it! Kaye has done an incredibly tantalizing job of creating an engaging plot and intriguing character development. There's a great slow reveal of the hero's back story that's accompanied by more than a couple of jaw-dropping moments. I love being surprised and I was gobsmacked at one part!

This is a well-paced romance. Rob and Olivia definitely hit some pitfalls in their developing relationship but those stumbling blocks are realistic and build to credible and extremely satisfying conclusion.

Rob's battle with his past makes him hardest on himself. He's worried about being knocked off the pedestal Olivia put him on back in their college days but, in reality it's Rob who has smashed that pedestal to smithereens. He continues to allow those shards to cut into his life, dragging him back into the past again and again. Caution is his middle name while Olivia's is impulsive. But she also has the  depth and maturity of  a woman anchored in Christ  in spite of the fun-loving, carefree persona she has created. This lush contrast between hero and heroine make this read all the richer.

High Country Hearts definitely belongs on every romance lovers TBR list! So, rush to the store right now or...

At Home in His Heart

GIVEAWAY!!!!

KAYE, GLYNNA
AT HOME IN HIS HEART

Finding her way home...

As soon as she got married, Sandi Bradshaw wanted nothing more than to move out of Canyon Springs, Arizona. Then everything changed when her military husband was killed. Now, establishing a veteran's memorial for Keith has brought Sandi and her daughter back to his hometown. And face to face with the man who stood in the way of her marriage! Bryce Harding has a lot to prove to this same hometown crowd -- and the very stubborn Sandi. But can they embrace the possibility that God might be giving them both a second chance at love?

My Review:

Once again I am awed by how a Love Inspired author manages to pack such a wallop with a limited word count. Kaye does a superb job of creating an emotionally riveting story in A Home in His Heart.

Miscommunication abounds due to preemptive thoughts and while both hero and heroine are Christians they haven't quite wrapped their heads around "judge not that ye be not judged." But Kaye has fleshed them both out with such compassion and care that it is easy for the reader not to judge either of them. I was rooting for them both even while I was shaking my head over some of their assumptions.

Angst and drama is interspersed with humour -- Bryce's interactions with Sandi's adorable daughter brought a smile to my lips every time. And there's a town full of secondary characters who alternately left me grinning or fuming during my read. If you are looking for a romantic read that packs a punch, look no further. A Home in His Heart is in bookstores now....or

Second Chance Courtship

KAYE, GLYNNA
SECOND CHANCE COURTSHIP

Never Trust a Cowboy.

That's what Kara Dixon's mother always warned her. Back home in Canyon Springs, Arizona, to care for her ailing mom, Kara comes face-to-face with rodeo cowboy Trey Kenton. Her former flame—and one-time bad boy—is finally ready to settle down and start a family, and he's got his heart set on Kara. But she's determined to head back to her big-city life in Chicago once her mother's on the mend. Can the charming cowboy convince her to trust him and give their love a second chance?

I SURE AM GETTING MY FILL OF COWBOY STORIES LATELY...AND LOVING 'EM ALL!!!!! THIS SECOND BOOK BY GLYNNA KAYE PACKS JUST AS MUCH OF A PUNCH AS HER FIRST ONE DID. SHE IS BACK WEAVING MAGIC WITH WORDS, CREATING CHARACTERS TO LOVE AND A PLOT WITH ENOUGH BUMPS TO MAKE YOUR READING EXPERIENCE A BUMPY RIDE.

TREY MAKES AN IMPRESSION FROM THE VERY FIRST TIME WE MEET HIM. BAD BOY TURNED GOOD AND TRYING TO CONVINCE A TOWN OF THAT FACT. WITH TWO ADORABLE NIECES IN HIS CARE WHILE THEIR PARENTS ARE OUT OF TOWN, THE IMAGE OF TREY HAS A FAMILY MAN IS INCREDIBLY APPEALING. I WAS A GONER AFTER THE FIRST SCENE.

UNFORTUNATELY KARA WAS A LITTLE HARDER TO CONVINCE...OR MAYBE THAT SHOULD BE FORTUNATELY SINCE THE BOOK WOULD HAVE BEEN OVER BEFORE IT HAD BEGUN IF SHE TURNED INTO A PUDDLE IN THE FIRST FEW PAGES LIKE I DID!

KAYE DID A MARVELOUS JOB OF LEAVING US A TRAIL OF TEMPTING MORSELS THAT WE HAVE TO PIECE TOGETHER IN ORDER TO FIGURE OUT KARA'S...AND TREY'S...STORY. AND SHE ACCOMPLISHES THAT WHILE TEASING US WITH THE UNDERCURRENTS OF ROMANCE. IT'S NOT A TRADITIONAL COURTSHIP, BUT IT IS ONE THAT YOU WILL BE EMOTIONALLY INVESTED IN BY THE END OF THE BOOK.

ONE OF THE STORY THREADS INVOLVES FORGIVENESS -- IT'S A HARD LESSON AND A HUMBLING ONE TO WITNESS BEING PLAYED OUT. AND SOMETIMES IT'S UNCOMFORTABLE. A FOOLISH MISTAKE MADE IN THE PAST BY A TEENAGER COMPLETELY ALTERS THE LIVES OF A MULTITUDE OF PEOPLE. GRITTY REALITY AT IT'S BEST.

WRAP ALL THAT UP WITH THE SWEET HOPE OF A SECOND CHANCE AND YOU HAVE AN INCREDIBLE READ BY AN INCREDIBLE AUTHOR.

Dreaming of Home

KAYE, GLYNNA
DREAMING OF HOME

Fresh out of the military, widower Joe Diaz is determined to raise his young son alone. But his next-door neighbour Meg McGuire has set her sights on the same house -- and teaching job -- as Joe! He's all about family now, not romantic entanglements, and he won't give up without a fight. But what about little Davy, who's growing more attached to Miss Meg every day? Or Joe, who finds himself dreaming of a home and family with the one woman in town who could take it all away?

THIS IS ANOTHER IMPRESSIVE OFFERING FROM STEEPLE HILL'S LOVE INSPIRED LINE. I CAN SEE WHY IT IS A MULTI-AWARD WINNER. JUST LOOK AT THIS LINE-UP:

2010 BOOKSELLERS' BEST AWARD -- 1ST PLACE TRADITIONAL AND BEST FIRST BOOK

2010 THE BEACON AWARD - 1ST PLACE INSPIRATIONS AND BEST FIRST BOOK

2010 WRITE TOUCH READERS' AWARD - 2ND PLACE (TIED)

FINALIST - 2010 AMERICAN CHRISTIAN FICTION WRITERS 'THE CAROL AWARD' -- SHORT CONTEMPORARY

FINALIST - 2010 MAGGIE AWARD INSPIRATIONAL CATEGORY.

KUDOS TO GLYNNA KAYE. THE RECOGNITION IS WELL DESERVED. I CAN'T BELIEVE DREAMING OF HOME IS HER FIRST BOOK. IT READS LIKE IT CAME FROM THE HEART OF A SEASONED WRITER.

THE PACING OF THE STORY IS SUPERB; THE SUBPLOTS GRADUALLY INTERTWINE UNTIL THE TENSION IS DRAWN SO TAUT I THOUGHT I'D CHOKE! MY EMOTIONS BUILT AS I GOT FURTHER INTO THE STORY, UNTIL BY THE END I HAD A LUMP IN MY THROAT AND TEARS IN MY EYES. I LOVE GETTING EMOTIONALLY INVOLVED IN A BOOK AND KAYE'S WRITING EASILY DREW ME IN.

THE ROMANCE WAS INCREDIBLE BUT IT WASN'T SUGAR-COATED. JOE AND MEG ARE BOTH STRUGGLING WITH VERY DIFFICULT ISSUES WHICH CREATES CONFLICT (LOTS OF IT!) AND THAT CONFLICT BEGETS ACTION AND REACTION AND THE PLOT SPIRALS TIGHTER AND TIGHTER TOWARDS A HOPE-FILLED CONCLUSION.

JOE'S SON, DAVY IS GUARANTEED TO STEAL YOUR HEART. AND JOE'S DAD, BILL, COMES IN A CLOSE SECOND. IN FACT KAYE HAS CREATED A WONDERFUL TOWN FILLED WITH SECONDARY CHARACTERS THAT BRING AN ADDED DEPTH TO THE STORY AND TWO OF THEM GET THEIR OWN BOOK, THE SECOND IN THE SERIES, IN FEBRUARY 2011. KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR SECOND HAND COURTSHIP!
