Trailing a Killer

GIVEAWAY

POST, CAROL J.
TRAILING A KILLER

A killer with an explosive agenda.

And a K-9 and determined detective on the case.

In a hurricane's aftermath, Detective Erin Jeffries is stunned when she and her search-and-rescue K-9, Alcee, uncover a collapsed building's only survivor -- her long-ago ex, Cody Elbourne. And it's quickly clear that the disaster was no accident. Now only Cody can identify the man who set the explosives that killed his grandfather...and Erin must stop the killer dead set on silencing him.

My Review:

Eeeep! There are so many reasons I love this Love Inspired Suspense and one of them is that it veers from the line's norm by offering a more sedate approach to the suspense. That in no way means there aren't many high-octane moments in Trailing a Killer, just that they are spread out over weeks, not days, and there's plenty of down time for relationship building.

Getting to know Cody and Erin with a specter of danger looming over them but not wholly consuming every second of their story was a refreshing break from the usual edge-of-your-seater where action happens on every other page. That doesn't mean this still isn't a page-turner or that I'm not a fan of relentless action thrillers. It's that, just like I enjoy varying my genre choices when I read, I like to vary the intensity in my suspense as well. Variety is the spice of an armchair sleuth's life, after all. :-)

So what else did I love about Trailing a Killer? Alcee, of course, and her empathetic doggy nature as well as her canine conversational skills!  :-) And the way the investigation develops -- including the tedious wait-for-results reality check to crime fighting! And the reunion romance where love has a chance to deepen into something profoundly beautiful if only fear can be conquered. Honestly -- there's as much suspense surrounding the romance as there is with the investigation! And I loved the significant faith thread that brings everything into perspective.

I listened to the audible edition narrated by Emma Lysy who brought these characters to life and increased my 'reading' enjoyment tenfold. I'm hoping that the Love Inspired lines produce more audible editions in the future.

Dangerous Relations

GIVEAWAY
POST, CAROL J.
DANGEROUS RELATIONS

He'll do anything to save his niece...in this The Baby Protectors novel.

When her sister's murdered, navy man Ryan McConnell insists on protecting Shelby Adair and their niece -- especially after someone tries to kidnap little Chloe. But can Shelby trust the child's uncle? After all, she's convinced his family's behind the attacks. But the longer Ryan shields them, the more Shelby wonders if becoming a forever family is their only shot at survival.

My Review:

I love Carol J. Post! Just putting that out there right from the start. Love the balance between romance and suspense punctuated by thrills of action and danger. Kept me riveted right to the very last page. I had my own suspicions on the bad guy early on in the story but still delighted in the fast-paced plot as I waited to find out if I was right. (I was!) And the romance -- Phew! Sparks fly from their adversarial first meet through to a whoosh-release-your-pent-up-breath-in-relief conclusion. What a delectable treat of a read.

Bodyguard for Christmas

GIVEAWAY
POST, CAROL J.
BODYGUARD FOR CHRISTMAS

Someone's after his little boy. She has one chance to save them both.

When his young son is nearly kidnapped, assistant district attorney Colton Gade needs a Christmas refuge -- and a live-in bodyguard. Though former military police officer Jasmine McNeal fights to shield them 24/7, she refuses to get attached. But growing close to the little boy and his father might be her only shot at keeping them alive -- and becoming a family beyond the holidays.

My Review:

"Sometimes God stills the storm, like He did for the disciples on the Sea of Galilee. Other times he carries us through it." (p 132)

A pager-turner with breathing spaces that allow Colton and Jasmine to connect with each other and his traumatized little boy. I'd lose myself in a few pages of sweetness and then bam! something would happen that would jar me back into wary suspense reader mode. Phew! Post rattled my nerves big time and I loved every minute of it! A perfect balance of faith, love and suspense!

Lethal Legacy

GIVEAWAY
POST, CAROL J.
LETHAL LEGACY

Someone wants her family secrets buried.
He's her only chance to survive.

Andrea Wheaton through her parents tragic death was accidental -- until she's attacked during a burglary at their home. Now she's also being targeted. Her ex-sweetheart Sheriff Deputy Bryce Caldwell insists on protecting her, though she refuses to trust him again. But with a killer closing in, can she and Bryce uncover her family's secrets before it's too late?

My Review:

I was in that kind of mood -- you know, where you want to happily immerse yourself in murder and mayhem from the comfort of your sleuthing armchair but you're stuck on what to read. So I shuffled through my TBR pile and when I caught sight of Carol J. Post's name on the front cover of this spine-tingler, I knew I was in store of some exciting escape time. Because this author always delivers a delectable combination of suspense and romance.

The suspense starts with subtle danger that slowly builds to something much more sinister...and potentially lethal! And the mystery Andrea finds herself in the middle of is intriguing -- in a threatening kind of way. But she stands her ground because she's that kind of stubborn and that pretty much ties Bryce up in knots. Well, truthfully, just thinking about Andrea has the power to do that! He knows he blew it a decade ago and he can't hope for anything more than forgiveness and possibly friendship...can he? I get thrills just thinking about it. I do so love a good second chance romance and this one is excellent!

And if that isn't enough of a lure, let me entice you further. There's a dog! Cooper by name, with his own unique idiosyncrasies that made me smile. Plus -- bonus -- there's a little bit of Christmas threaded into this story as well. Now doesn't that make Lethal Legacy pretty near irresistible? I certainly think so!

Fatal Recall

GIVEAWAY
POST, CAROL J.
FATAL RECALL

Amnesia stole her memory -- a killer wants her dead.

When Paige Tatem loses her memory, she knows just two things: she has a target on her back, and police officer Tanner Brody is the only man she trusts to protect her. As they piece together her past, Tanner wonders what lies hidden in Paige's mind. And as the truth begins to emerge, it becomes clear that a ruthless enemy wants certain secrets to stay buried.

My Review:

And just when you think you've read every likely amnesia story an author comes along and surprises you with a new twist. This heart-stopping, breath-snatching suspense kept me committed to seeing Paige and Tanner through to their happily-ever-after.

The sinister opening line piqued my curiosity --  "The sharp crack of gunfire split the silence." and I kept collecting questions with every page turn. Post takes her time when it comes to revelations -- especially about Paige and her history. It about drove me crazy waiting to piece all the bits of the puzzle together and when I did I was blown away. What impeccable mystery building talent this author has! And the romance thread is just as strong. The perfect edge-of-your-seater for the armchair sleuth who enjoys plenty of action and a lots of suspense. Not to mention toe-curling romance. Fatal Recall has it all -- including a very appropriate (and immensely clever) title.

Reunited by Danger

GIVEAWAY
POST, CAROL J.
REUNITED BY DANGER

Calculated Revenge

When a former classmate is murdered at Detective Caleb Lyon's ten-year high school reunion, he knows the victim's old group of friends are keeping secrets. That includes Cedar Keys, Florida, police officer Amber Kingston. Back in school, Amber was headed for trouble, but now she's as dedicated to the law as he is. As he works overtime to get the pretty cop to open up to him, Amber and her friends receive messages threatening payback for past deeds. And her friends keep dying...one by one. But protecting Amber and unmasking a murderer isn't just the widowed detective's shot at redemption -- it's his unexpected second chance at love.

My Review:

What a perfect premise for a suspense novel. Very Agatha Christiesh with reunion attendees dying off one by one. High School reunions are already deadly enough without a twisted killer on the loose. :-)

And then there's Caleb and Amber getting reacquainted as law enforcement professionals. They were from opposite sides of the track back in high school. Caleb was the hard working but easy going student who never got into trouble. Amber was the exact opposite. Loved that fresh spin on the usual good girl/bad boy scenario. But Amber has her act together now and she's trying to live down her past...if it doesn't kill her first.

Incredibly clever suspense plotting and great dynamics between the hero and heroine (hello -- they both have rescue animals!) make this a compulsive page-turner of a read.

Trust my Heart

GIVEAWAY

POST, CAROL J.
TRUST MY HEART

Love is headline news when a small-town reporter teams up with the heir to a local estate.

Grant McAllister arrives in Murphy, North Carolina, with one aim: to sell his inherited property and leave as quickly as possible. The big-city lawyer has no interest in his late, estranged grandparents or the dilapidated mansion he just acquired. After his high-profile divorce, he should be avoiding perky reporters, too. But Jami Carlisle is honest, funny, and undeniably appealing.

After breaking up with her safe-but-smothering boyfriend, Jami is determined to ace her first big assignment. A story about the McAllister estate is too intriguing to ignore -- much like its handsome, commitment-phobic heir. Thanks to her digging, the pieces of Grant's fraught family history are gradually fitting into place, but also upending all his old beliefs.

The two draw closer as they share their dreams, until misread signals and misunderstandings begin to test their trust. But in the unspoiled beauty of the Smoky Mountains, there's healing and forgiveness to be found. And for Grant, this unplanned detour may be just what's needed to finally guide him home...

My Review:

A classic small-town romance with lots of heart. Post as captured the unique personalities of some memorable Murphy citizens. Still grinning over their antics. They provide wonderful comic relief for the angst that abounds as Grant struggles to come to terms with his family history...and his past.

Jami's dogged pursuit of a story both exasperates and intrigues him -- because he's definitely attracted to the earnest cub reporter. But pursuit of a relationship is pointless -- they live in different worlds, have different goals. And if that isn't enough to motivate caution, her naïve faith is a huge deterrent.

A mysterious family estate hoards secrets begging to be uncovered -- but once they are, will Grant and Jami survive the fallout? An engaging contemporary love story with a twist of mystery.

My thanks to Waterfall Press and Litfuse Publicity Group for providing me with a copy of this book.

    Mistletoe Justice

    GIVEAWAY

    POST, CAROL J.
    MISTLETOE JUSTICE

    Frame-up

Someone has framed Darci Tucker for embezzlement—and she's pretty sure it's her boss. The real criminal will do anything to make sure she doesn't talk, from breaking into her home to hacking her computer. Her only hope for regaining control, and protecting her young son from danger, is Conner Stevenson. Desperate for answers about his sister's sudden disappearance, Conner is determined to uncover why the bookkeeper was named a target. Now Darci and her son have become pawns in a deadly game, and as Conner races to protect them, he finds he wants more than justice. He may want a family for Christmas after all…if they live that long.

    My Review:

Phew! Expelling a deep breath as I try to figure out what to say. Sinister simmers in every scene. No flying bullets or face to face combat...at least to start. It's more subtle than that. Just the hint of lurking danger and something going very, very wrong. The tension builds with every page. The kind of cloak and dagger stuff that raises the stakes higher and higher. Suddenly it isn't just about Darci -- her family is endangered too. She's desperate to prove her innocence and put her life back together. Conner is just as determined to help her. The unlikely duo draw closer in their fight for justice. An exceptional romantic suspense that will hold you spellbound until the very last page.

    POST, CAROL J.
    HIDDEN IDENTITY

    Running for her life

When Meagan Berry is caught on camera rescuing a senator, she knows her cover's been blown. After faking her death, she's spent months keeping her identity hidden from an abusive ex-fiance. Now he's on her trail in remote Cedar Key, Florida. Officer Hunter Kingston knows Meagan's running from something, but he can't imagine anyone wishing harm on the pretty artist. Then an intruder breaks into Meagan's house, and Hunter promises not to leave her side. But when evidence from the crime scene doesn't add up, Hunter wonders whether he should trust Meagan. Yet he will have to put his faith in this mysterious beauty if they both want to live to see another day.

    My Review:

Intensely riveting. Such an interesting premise and Post follows it through in spine-tingling detail. I was on the edge of my seat the whole read. Not everything is as it seems and I had fun connecting all the puzzle pieces together. Intrigue abounds with danger lurking on nearly every page. There's hardly time for romance and yet Hunter can't deny his growing attraction for Meagan and she's experiencing the same conundrum. That romantic tension makes this read all the sweeter. A gripping suspense that you'll want to devour in one sitting.

    Shattered Haven

    GIVEAWAY
    POST, CAROL J.
    SHATTERED HAVEN

    No Safe Harbor

Allison Winchester's old Victorian house contains a valuable secret code, one that someone is dead set on uncovering. After her house is ransacked and her life is threatened, she has no choice but to accept the protection of injured ex-cop Blake Townsend. Allison never thought she'd trust a man with secrets again—and Blake is as much a mystery as the man who is stalking her. The lawman vows to shield her from the dangerous criminal. But can Blake and Allison decipher the mysterious code before their island safe haven becomes their ultimate resting place?

    My Review:

A riveting suspense chalk full of intrigue and romance. This is the kind of armchair sleuth read I love. And trying to crack the secret code brought me back to my Trixie Belden days (Trixie Belden and the Mysterious Code). LOL. In fact I was feeling oh so smugly superior because I thought I'd cracked the code way before Allison and Blake. Uh...wrong!!!!! Left with egg on my face when Allison finally figures it out. Heart-stopping danger raised the gooseflesh on my arms more than a time or two as the villain grows more desperate...and reckless. Phew! Another Love Inspired Suspense novel you'll want to read in one sitting.

    Out for Justice

    GIVEAWAY

    POST, CAROL J.
    OUT FOR JUSTICE

    The next target...

Tracking a serial killer in Harmony Grove turns personal for Detective Lexi Simmons when her cousin becomes a victim. It turns nearly impossible when she's teamed up with Officer Alan White—the almost-fiancé whose heart she broke six years ago. Alan can't understand how two people so right for each other didn't end up together. But they have more pressing matters of the past to attend to: a vengeful killer and a decade-old incident on a college campus. Now Lexi fits the profile of the next name on the hit list. And Alan finds himself not only engaged in a fight for her love—but for her life.

    My Review:

An intense whodunit of a read. Has the feel of a TV crime show and just as fast-paced. Readers get to shadow law enforcement as they follow clues and track down leads. I really enjoyed that behind the scenes angle. And then there's our hero and heroine. A complicated past doesn't make for a smooth transition into partnership on a homicide case. There's great romantic tension between Lexi and Alan - particularly because they don't always see eye to eye in how to solve the case. Lexi is a little bit reckless in her desire to find her cousin's killer and Alan has to tamp down on protective feelings that are sure to scare Lexi away from a committed relationship. All in all a wonderful gnarly mess of suspense and romance.

    Motive for Murder

    GIVEAWAY

    POST, CAROL J.
    MOTIVE FOR MURDER

    Deadly Homecoming

Only her estranged sister's suspicious death could bring Jessica Parker back to her hometown. Investigating Priscilla's life leads Jess nowhere. Someone is dead set against her uncovering anything, and soon enough, she's being anonymously threatened. Her only hope is a man who asks more questions than he'll answer.

FBI agent Shane Dalton may have the answers Jessica needs, but he can't risk his cover, no matter his feelings for the beautiful brunette. They'll have to rely on each other if they want the truth -- and future -- they never thought possible.

    My Review:

A riveting suspense. Loved the realistically flawed heroine. Jessica is a product of her upbringing and though she has come a long way she is still rough around the edges. Tough, independent, wary. Shane doesn't quite know what to make of her. Their first meet is tense...and hysterical in a twisted kind of way. :-)  Motive for Murder has a page-turning, suspenseful plot, liberally dosed with romance which makes it an excellent read. Love Inspired Suspense hits it out of the ballpark again!
