My Review:

I've only read Trish Perry's novella, 'Tis the Season so far (It's the ACFW Book Club's pick for this month) but I wanted to post this review now to give time for the Giveaways. My internet has been wonky at home which is why I'm late posting them this week. Anyway, I really enjoyed Perry's holiday tale. It's the right mix of comedy and angst with a few refreshing surprises thrown in for good measure.

Drew isn't the confident hero I am used to reading about. Perry shows his vulnerable side, allowing him to be embarrassed a time or two and a little bit awkward with tendencies towards bumbling. Completely endearing and definitely appealing. It made the story all the more believable for me.

There's great interaction between Nikki and her sister, Hannah and an outrageously funny secondary character, Gigi, who adds spice to the tale.

Another unique twist to this tale is that the hero and heroine don't connect immediately. Perry takes time to set the stage and let's her readers get to know Nikki and Drew first. We get to watch their attraction to each other from afar, anticipating every moment that brings them closer to discovering each other. This brought a very realistic feel to their love story.

A wonderful, cheery, feel-good kind of Christmas read!

My Review:

There is something so hopeful about second chance love stories and Love Finds You in Lancaster County Pennsylvania is brimming with that quality. Daughety has created two winning romance stories that merge into one heartwarming read. And it's great for Amish toe-dabblers since the plot evenly balances both Amish and contemporary storylines.

Daughety surprised me a time or two when she veered away from predictable plotting, make this a quick and refreshing read. Lovely, pure romance -- though  it's not without angst. I especially liked the way Caroline and Michael's relationship developed -- from wariness, to friendship and then something deeper. It felt so honest and real. Simon and Lydia Ann's journey is much gentler -- sweeter and the contrast between the two really sharpened the story.

BUT IT IS RAFE AND ALISON'S OFTEN STORMY RELATIONSHIP THAT CAUGHT AND KEPT MY ATTENTION. THEIR INDIVIDUAL STRUGGLES TO COME TO GRIPS WITH THEIR PAST AND NOW THEIR PRESENT REALITY MADE FOR A PAGE-TURNING READ.

I READ IT VORACIOUSLY UNTIL THAT POINT. THEN I HAD TO PUT IT DOWN AND PRETEND WE WEREN'T HEADING INTO EMOTIONAL TURMOIL -- AT LEAST UNTIL I COULD BE ASSURED OF AN UNINTERRUPTED CHUNK OF TIME WHERE I COULD READ RIGHT TO THE END.

AND OH! WHAT A CONCLUSION -- OUTRAGEOUS -- LARGER THAN LIFE AND COMPLETELY WORTHY OF A LOVE LIKE EMILY AND TRACEN'S. THIS WAS SUCH A FUN, EXCITING ESCAPE READ. IF YOU LOVE A GOOD ROMANCE, YOU WILL ADORE LOVE FINDS YOU IN SUN VALLEY IDAHO!

I LOVED THE AUNTS!!!! SUCH A WONDERFUL VENUE FOR COMEDY AND WISDOM! AND A GREAT FOIL FOR THEIR EARNEST YOUNG NIECE WHO THINKS SHE HAS TO CONTROL THEM FOR THEIR OWN GOOD. THE GENERATION GAP -- AND IN SOME WAYS CULTURAL GAP -- IS ALIVE AND WELL IN SUGARCREEK, OHIO.

RACHEL IS SUCH A CONTRADICTION AT TIMES -- STRUGGLING TO DISCOVER WHO SHE REALLY IS AND WHAT SHE WANTS OUT OF LIFE. HER SENSE OF FAMILY, HER ETHICS AND HONOUR ARE BOTH ADMIRABLE AND FRUSTRATING...AND TOTALLY CLASH WITH POOR JOE AND THE SECRET HE IS TRYING TO KEEP HIDDEN. WHAT A WONDERFUL COMPLICATED STARTING POINT FOR THEIR ROMANCE. THERE IS SO MUCH TO KEEP THEM APART AND YET THEY CAN'T HELP BUT BE DRAWN TO EACH OTHER.

AND SPEAKING OF JOE...SIGH FOLLOWED BY A SWOON...HE MAKES A VERY ATTRACTIVE...AND VULNERABLE...HERO. CAUGHT IN MID-FLIGHT, HIS ONLY DESIRE IS TO PROTECT HIS YOUNG SON BUT HE FINDS HIMSELF WRAPPED UP IN A MYSTERY AND FORCED TO FACE A PAINFUL PAST. AND HE'S OFTEN AT ODDS WITH RACHEL...BUT THEN THERE ARE THE TIMES WHEN THEY MESH AND SPARKS FLY!

LOVE FINDS YOU IN SUGARCREEK, OHIO IS A FANTASTIC 'LOSE YOURSELF IN ANOTHER WORLD' KIND OF READ. DEFINITELY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. A BRILLIANT DEBUT NOVEL.

VERY WELL RESEARCHED. I CAME AWAY WITH ALOT MORE KNOWLEDGE OF THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD THEN I HAD BEFORE I READ THIS BOOK. EXTREMELY WELL WRITTEN, GRIPPING STORYLINE. ANNA AND DANIEL ARE MEMORABLE CHARACTERS, BUT I FELT THEIR ROMANCE TOOK A BACKSEAT TO THE REST OF THE STORY. WOULDN'T REALLY CATEGORIZE IT AS A ROMANCE SINCE THAT PART REALLY HAPPENED IN THE LAST QUARTER OR SO OF THE BOOK.
