Loving Lovina

GIVEAWAY

JOHNS, PATRICIA
LOVING LOVINA

When the peaceful Amish community of Bountiful, Pennsylvania, is rocked by scandal, the three Yoder siblings must each find their path to love, family, and forgiveness...

Waking in the hospital after a car accident, Lovina Yoder doesn't remember the Amish family who claim her as their own -- or the man who says he's her fiancĂ©. Thoughtful and handsome, Johannes Miller clearly cares fro her, and Lovina longs to recall the walks and buggy rides he describes, and the plans they once made. Life in the Amish community seems full of joy, faith, and warmth. And yet, Lovina sense there is something more in her past, just beyond her grasp...

Gott has answered Johannes' prayer to bring Lovina lack -- but not quite as he oped. A year ago, she ran away to the Englisher world, unable to face the community after her daet's misdeeds. Her family hopes that Lovina can rediscover her Amish heart before those painful recollections return. Johannes loves her as deeply as ever, but if she walked away once, will she leave again, taking his dream of home and family with her? Or will the new memories they are making together, day by day, convince her that this Bountiful future is Gott's plan for them both?

My Review:

I've been taking a hiatus from novels featuring the amnesia trope but, occasionally one intrigues me enough to give it a try and Loving Lovina practically jumped off the library shelf and into my arms screaming, 'Pick me! Pick me!' so I did. :-)

The cover intrigued me. Amish or English? Well...both really and that's where the amnesia twist is so innovative. Because Lovina left her Amish community a year ago and wakes up in the hospital without any memories of her life before then. So, when an Amish family claims her as theirs she dutifully goes home with them to recuperate...and hopefully regain her memories. But they are hoping she can reconnect with her faith and community before that happens because Lovina -- and, in fact, the entire Yoder family's story -- is complicated. Fraught with tragedy and pain and loss. Each sibling is facing their challenges in different ways, but they all agree that together they are stronger.

And then there's the issue of the fiancĂ© Lovina left behind. Is it a reunion romance since they had a relationship before, or is it a new romance since Lovina can't remember anything? Or maybe unrequited love because Johannes has never stopped loving her? Oh, the deliciousness of all the emotional turmoil punctuated with the sweet wonder of falling in love...again.

This is the third book in the Infamous Amish series, and, while there is a lot of back story from previous novels, the author does a great job of keeping new readers updated and not feeling lost. So I can definitely recommend Loving Lovina has a standalone novel.

Snowbound with the Amish Bachelor

GIVEAWAY

JOHNS, PATRICIA
SNOWBOUND WITH THE AMISH BACHELOR

Will she go home when the snow stops falling?

For social worker Grace Schweitzer, arriving at Ben Hochstetter's farm to pick up an abandoned baby looks like stepping into the past -- especially after a blizzard forces her to stay. Helping on the farm reminds Grace of her Amish upbringing...and...and the reason she left. She's losing her hear to Ben and the faith she once held dear, but has she changed too much to return to this life?

A Redemption Amish Legacies novel.

My Review:

Okay, there's something about the shorter days and cooler nights of fall that have me craving certain kinds of reads and stranded in a snowstorm is one of them! Don't ask me why, because it isn't that cold yet! -- but I see the first fall leaves skittering on the ground and my reading heart goes thumpity-thump for an epic blizzardy read. And, woohoo,  Patricia Johns delivers an excellent example of what I love most about this kind of novel.

Heroine out of her element. Hero to the rescue. Lots of laughter and hijinks and a snow pile full of romantic tension.

Plus there's the Hochstetter clan -- a small but mighty contingency for laughter and plain speaking. Ben's dad cracked me up! And then he'd say something profound that would give me pause. Love how he kept me (and Ben) on our toes.

The kind of star-crossed lovers romance that makes the happily ever after sooooo satisfying.

Jeb's Wife

GIVEAWAY

JOHNS, PATRICIA
JEB'S WIFE

Patricia Johns' sensitive storytelling brings depth and heart to this tender story of second chances, as an Amish woman embarks on marriage with the gruff farmer next door...

Once Leah Riehl prayed for a husband. The man she loved chose another, wanting the children Leah can't provide. But she's found a measure of peace, keeping house for her brother, Simon, and teaching in a nearby town. Now though, Simon's debts to an Englischer gambling ring have left Leah with a desperate dilemma -- and a surprising offer from her scarred, reclusive neighbor. Jebadiah King needs to marry in order to claim his family farm. A union, for appearances only, will help them both.

Jeb knows his scars make him a less than ideal husband, but he can be a useful one. It's the least that Leah deserves. But despite the promises he made to himself, Jeb can't help longing for his lovely, warmhearted new wife. His first marriage brought heartbreak, but Leah's gentle smiles spark hope again. Are they willing to take the leap that love requires -- and open themselves to all the challenges and joy a true marriage could bring?

My Review:

Eeep alert! Marriage of Convenience meets a Beauty and the Beast-ish trope to provide an intensely emotional and uplifting contemporary romance in Amish country.

The hope for second chances just leaps off the page as both Leah and Jeb struggle to make peace with their pasts and learn to rely on each other for their present...and that might just lead to love in their future!

My favourite kind of escape read. Lots of romantical tension peppered with angst and tempered with humour. And tenderness! Be still my heart! Jeb is just so.....THUD!!!!

A multi-layered extravaganza of bibliophile delight!

I was clearing out my shelves....again and discovered I had extra copies of two Love Inspired titles! So today I'm doing a retro-repeat giveaway -- This one goes up at midnight and the second book will go up at noon so remember to check back!

JOHNS, PATRICIA
A RANCHER TO REMEMBER

He's forgotten how to be a daddy
But he'll learn for his Montana Twins

It's no surprise that Sawyer West doesn't recognize the beautiful woman visiting his ranch. After an accident, he doesn't remember anyone. Not even his twin toddlers. Still, something tells im he can trust Olivia Martin, who offers her help with the girls -- and recovering his missing memories. Yet that trust may shatter when he learns why she's really there...

My Review:

published August 2019

There's been a rash of amnesia stories in the Love Inspired lines this year and I'm always amazed by the way each author manages to put their unique spin on the topic. Patricia Johns' A Rancher to Remember is one of the most innovative plots I've come across. Love that it's the hero suffering from amnesia which leaves him vulnerable -- and cranky and frustrated and so impatient with himself. And I also love that it forces him to be led by his heart rather than logic or experience. And when he meets Olivia, his heart draws him in. But their past is complicated -- a past he has no recollection of even though Olivia remembers every excruciating detail. The result is a page-turning, angst-riddled, emotionally gutting contemporary romance! With a cowboy! And sweet twin girls! Call me a happily contented reader. :-)

The Bishop's Daughter

GIVEAWAY
JOHNS, PATRICIA
THE BISHOP'S DAUGHTER

In this poignant, beautifully written novel, a faithful Amish widow is reunited with her wayward first love...

As a bishop's daughter and good Amish mother, widowed Sadie Hochstetler teachers her young son that God blesses those who try their best to please Him. But her brief marriage taught her that life is infinitely more complicated than that. Older, and serious, her late husband seemed a sensible choice -- especially compared to Elijah Fisher, the spirited boy with whom she butted heads and hearts. Then Elijah abruptly left for the Englisher world, taking Sadie's beloved brother he along with him -- a double betrayal she still strives to forgive. Especially now that Elijah has returned.

Elijah plans to stay in the the Amish community only as long as he's needed, helpinghis family and working for Sadie's ailing father. The outside world has changed him, leading him to question rules and restrictions that others take on faith. Once, he'd been head over heels in love with the bishop's daughter -- a girl he was judged unworthy of courting. Nine years have changed so much between them. Yet something remains -- a spark that, for all their differences, might light the way home again.

My Review:

I had the privilege of reading my first Paticia Johns novel last week (a Love Inspired) and was really impressed by her storytelling style so when this book showed up at my public library I snatched it up and then settled down to devour it in one sitting -- it's that good.

This second chance love story is complex and layered and I loved the way the author explores issues of the Ordnung from multiple angles. Really made for a fascinating -- and emotional -- read.

Sadie has always felt the pressure of being the Bishop's daughter -- it has shaped her into the serious, sensible...dare I say straight-laced?...woman she is now. The exact opposite to Elijah's rebellious spirit. Their differences caused trouble in their youth and his sudden reappearance rocks Sadie's structured world. Sparks fly and toe-curls ensue! The kind of romance that takes a reader on a roller coaster ride straight through to the end.

A beautifully written, thought-provoking read.

Her Twins' Cowboy Dad

GIVEAWAY
JOHNS, PATRICIA
HER TWINS' COWBOY DAD

A cowboy committed to bachlerhood...until these little Montana Twins change everything.

Thanks to his dysfunctional family, cowboy-to-the-bone Colt Hardin insists marriage and fatherhood aren't for him. But then his uncle dies, leaving Colt the ranch he's always wanted -- and the herd to his late cousin's mischievous twin toddlers. Now Colt must find a solution wit their pretty mother, Jane Marshall. Can these little cherubs show Jane and Colt what a family can truly be?

My Review:

"We're no Norman Rockwell family ideal out here. We are just regular people. Some of us are hurt. Personally, I'm a little messed up. We're trying really hard to overcome a whole lot of hurdles. We're a family, but are not always good at being one, either." (p 55-56)

That cuteness overload cover delivers exactly what it promises. Swooning over Colt Hardin is a given -- especially when he's wrangling twins! He's all tough "cowboy-to-the-bone" -- a confirmed bachelor who intends to stay that away thanks to his bitter views on marriage. Watching him work through his angst was both heartbreaking and uplifting. Jane and her twins are the catalyst that hurl him along an emotional journey towards wholeness. Loved the give and take between these two. They develop a bond of friendship that threatens to deepen into something neither of them is looking for. Thankfully, the author had other plans and included enough toe-curling scenes to delight this hopelessly romantic reader. Awesomesauce from start to finish!
