Thanks to my public library for providing me with a paperback copy of this book -- and they very rarely get the Love Inspired books in hardcopy. Woot!

Love the exotic setting and the author does an amazing job of incorporating so many interesting facts and descriptions into the story that I felt like I'd actually been on an African safari! And this suspense has a different kind of pacing which I also enjoyed. It's a little tamer -- no so many flying bullets and exploding cars and more sinister foreshadowing and creepy 'eep' moments. Meghan is feisty and stubborn and totally clueless about Alex's real reason for joining her filming crew. He's under orders to keep his real purpose a secret which makes it difficult to explain his bodyguard tendencies. Humour, mystery and the threat of danger enhance the romance and make this a memorable read.

My Review:

Reading and animals are two great loves in my life so you can imagine my euphoria when I hit upon this lovely romance about a vet and a horse rescue group.  The dynamics between Ethan and Tessa are prickly right from the start. Like nearly everyone else in her life, Ethan makes a snap judgement upon their first meeting. Tessa's used to shrugging them off...and tries to shrug him off as well but circumstances keep throwing them together. It isn't long before Ethan's her biggest advocate but Tessa still feels she has a lot to prove and romantic complications are the last thing she needs. Luckily Harris doesn't listen to her characters' wishes. :-) She weaves a riveting tale fraught with tension, past betrayal, lurking danger and plenty of sweet romantic moments.

My Review:

Packing multiple emotional punches, Second Chance Ranch lives up to its name...it is all about second chances. I always enjoy stories that feature animals  -- and horses Sam and Prince Charming shine as great supporting characters. They offer silent empathy and an understanding ear to both Zach and Sophie. Harris did an amazing job of conveying the hope and humour that comes with the companionship of therapy animals.

I appreciated the veteran angle as well. I know I'm guilty of not giving enough thought (and prayers) to soldiers who are suffering the aftermath of their service overseas. Kudos to Harris for highlighting one man's struggle and in doing so, honoring the service of soldiers everywhere.
