REED, TERRI
DUTY BOUND GUARDIAN
Framed
When a priceless artifact is stolen, museum curator Lana Gomez becomes the prime suspect. How can she hope to adopt her orphaned nephew if she's a person of interest in a crime? Cooperating with Capitol K-9 Unit officer Adam Donovan doesn't get her very far—the handsome cop thinks she's hiding something. But when the real thief returns set on silencing Lana, it is Adam and his Doberman pinscher, Ace, who become her only defense against a madman who wants nothing more than to see Lana eliminated.
Capitol K-9 Unit: These lawmen solve the toughest cases with the help of their brave canine partners.
My Review:
The second in the Captiol K-9 Unit continuity series and I loved this as much as I did the first. No worries, though, Duty Bound Guardian reads well as a standalone and the author does a fantastic job of catching new readers up on the over arcing case details. There's one part of the suspense that isn't going to be solved until Book Six.
Once again, it's the dog that stole my heart. Ace, the Doberman is not only a stellar police partner, he also oozes plenty of canine empathy. In fact, I'm not sure if the title refers to the dog or the police officer. LOL. Okay, I guess Adam has his own charm as well which includes going into hyper-sensitive protective mode on more than one occasion. Be still my heart. Definite hero material even though he harbors suspicions about Lana. That's part Lana's 'fault' in that she's learned to hide behind a mask of composure so she isn't easy to read. Thankfully, Adam is a quick study (especially with the promptings of Ace.) The simmering romance complicates a gnarly plot fraught with danger and deception. An all round 'ace' of a read. :-)
