The Widow's Suitor

GIVEAWAY

ZEDIKER, ROSE ROSS
THE WIDOW'S SUITOR

CORA ANDERSON ISN'T LOOKING FOR LOVE

The young widow is just trying to make a life on the prairie for herself and her newborn son. When handsome newcomer Luke Dow shows up at her cabin door, she soon relies on the man's help with her homestead…and dares to dream of the future.

Luke came to the small South Dakota town to build a hotel and make his fortune. But he never expected to care for anyone, let alone the beautiful Cora and her baby boy. When Cora's land claim is challenged by a neighbor, Luke will do all he can to protect her and her home—and claim her heart.

My Review:

A wonderful pioneer love story. Zediker captivated me with her words right from the gripping first scene -- and oh my what a hero/heroine first meet! It kind of felt like Laura Ingalls Wilder all grown up. I loved the Little House books as a child and The Widow's Suitor has the same feel for historical detail. What an exciting -- and desperate -- time to be alive. Cora faces an uncertain future with grit and determination but a vulnerability that pulls at Luke's heartstrings. And the author has created a truly vile villain to up the angst factor just in case trying to eke out a living as a widow with a newborn babe isn't enough. :-) A powerful inspirational thread completes the plot and made this a great read from beginning to end.

Dark Tide

GIVEAWAY

SLEEMAN, SUSAN
DARK TIDE

Gina Evans knows her brother was murdered-even if the police won't believe her. After catching a quick glimpse of the evidence her brother had gathered, the same criminals are after her and her baby niece. And Gina's only hope is the man she left behind. Despite the painful memories, private investigator Derrick Justice won't fail Gina and her baby. Yet now, the woman he never stopped loving and the baby he's come to adore are in a killer's crosshairs. But can Derrick trap the cold-blooded murderer before he strikes again?

My Review:

What a completely riveting opening scene in this great romantic suspense! I nearly turned blue from holding my breath. And what a fabulous reacquainting of lost loves! The tension between Gina and Derrick is palpable throughout but there is also some great comedic relief in the bantering of the Justice siblings. This is the last book in the series so readers get to play a little bit of catch up with old friends but Dark Tide easily reads well as a standalone too. And there is something so alluring about a big tough guy who turns into a marshmallow over a baby. There's lots to recommend this book -- taut suspense, even tauter romance and a group of characters you'll come to care about. Great read

Prepared for a Purpose: The Inspiring True Story of How One Woman Saved an Atlanta School Under Siege

TUFF, ANTOINETTE
TRESNIOWSKI, ALEX
PREPARED FOR A PURPOSE : THE INSPIRING TRUE STORY OF HOW ONE WOMAN SAVED AN ATLANTA SCHOOL UNDER SIEGE

True Story of Courage and Compassion in a School Under Siege

As 870 children waited in fear, their elementary school rushed into lockdown mode. As the nation faced yet another Sandy Hook story of tragedy, one woman rewrote the ending.

Yet the story doesn't start with those first steps Michael Hill took into that Atlanta elementary school. It starts with Antoinette Tuff, a woman who faced her own pain, hurt, and rejection, yet held onto grace, faith, and hope. A hope that anchored her in the most high stakes of moments, a grace that allowed her to empathize with a hurting young man, and a faith that gave her the courage to love him back from the brink.

This is more than just the amazing account of tragedy averted. It's the evidence of what we can do when we allow ourselves to be used by God. And it's a story of how God uses all of our life experiences--the good and the bad--to prepare us for our own moment of divine purpose.

My Review:

Really intriguing story behind a media headline that caught the world's attention. The story moves between the present day situation at the school and Antoinette's life. It took a bit of adjusting to at the beginning of the read, but I soon caught the rhythm and it was exciting to see how Antoinette's past experiences prepared her for that eventful day. A real conviction that God does indeed have a plan and a purpose for everything that happens. But this book is also a testimony of the power in Christ if we are willing to follow where He leads. Thankfully, Antoinette did. She not only knew Christ, but carried Him with her in everything she did. An inspiring story that will encourage and convict you anew.

You're Going to Be Okay: Encouraging Truth Your Heart Needs to Hear, Especially on the Hard Days

GERTH, HOLLEY
YOU'RE GOING TO BE OKAY : ENCOURAGING TRUTH YOUR HEART NEEDS TO HEAR, ESPECIALLY ON THE HARD DAYS

If your life isn't perfect . . .
If you've ever been disappointed . . .
If you feel stressed or tired . . .
This is for you.

You really are going to be okay. And it truly is possible to live with joy, resilience, and strength no matter what life brings. Yes, there will be hurt and hard times. But God wants to help you find ways to survive, grow stronger, and even thrive--no matter what happens.

For every woman who has been disappointed, who has watched a dream disappear, whose life isn't what she imagined it would be, bestselling author Holley Gerth has a heartfelt message of hope. It is possible to live with joy, resilience, and strength in both the good times and the bad.

With her trademark positive encouragement and probing questions for self-reflection, Holley encourages women to spend less of their lives regretting and more of their lives truly living. She shows them how to guard their hearts against despair and look to the future with confidence, remembering that they are part of a greater plan and nothing can stop God's purposes for them.

My Review:

Holly Gerth has a gift for encouraging. She speaks straight to my heart. This is a lifeline kind of book full of bracing and all too simple truths that have the power to transform your thinking. And that's the key to Gerth's talent -- her ability to see simplicity in the midst of chaos. She has the ability to bring peace just by reading her words. The big message I'm taking away from this read is that my relationship with Christ is what defines me -- not my circumstances. What an empowering -- and freeing -- though! And the author conveys this message with warmth and wisdom and a deep understanding. A blessing of a read!
