A Heart's Disguise

GIVEAWAY

COBLE COLLEEN
A HEART'S DISGUISE

In the celebratory mood of the recently-ended Civil War, Sarah discovers her betrothed has been keeping a devastating secret.

While the tiny town of Wabash, Indiana, celebrates the end of the fighting,

Sara Montgomery attends the parties, but inside she’s fighting a deep sadness. The love of Sara’s life, Rand Campbell, didn’t come back from the front.

So her brother and ailing father persuade her to pledge herself to another man—despite her misgivings. When Sarah finds out that Rand is in fact alive—and that her fiancé Ben Croftner knew it—she indignantly breaks off their engagement.

Croftner doesn’t take rejection lightly—and a single woman with a sick father makes an easy target. He abducts Sarah, his intentions anything but honorable. Then Rand comes to her aid . . . only to reveal that he has been posted at Fort Laramie, Wyoming, and asks her to go with him as his wife.
Will Sarah leave her dying father’s side for the only man she’s ever loved? And what plans are forming in the jealous heart of Ben Croftner?

My Review:

Though this is a 2015 release, I am reviewing it on Retro Saturday because this is the first book in the Journey of the Heart series which includes both Where Leads the Heart and Plains of Promise (originally published in the late 1990s.) Neither book is available in print format any longer so the author and publisher chose to release them using a serialization model. The two original titles have been divided into six novella length books and will be released monthly March through August. So beware -- this one has a cliffhanger ending!

It is vintage Coble -- danger lurking around every corner, a villainous villain, a thwarted hero and an earnest heroine who finds herself caught in the middle of conflict...and danger. Did I mention the danger? And the snake-in-the-grass villain? Grrr. You won't be able to turn the pages fast enough and when you come to the end you find that it isn't. There's still much more to come.

Because of the unusual serialization of this series, I am offering either a paperback copy of A Heart's Disguise OR an ebook copy of Where Leads the Heart (original full length book) to the winner of this draw.

My thanks to Litfuse Publicity and Thomas Nelson for my review copy of this book.

All Dressed Up In Love

GIVEAWAY

HERNE, RUTH LOGAN HERNE
ALL DRESSED UP IN LOVE

Tara walks into Elena’s Bridal and finds her dream job—and a handsome man to match.

A third-year law student, Tara Simonetti just needs a job to pay the bills and put food on the table. After her father’s untimely death, she’s determined to give her small hometown what he didn’t have: a good, honest lawyer, but law school isn’t cheap. When she answers a want ad that leads her to Elena’s Bridal one blustery morning, she feels like she’s died and gone to heaven. All of the organza, gowns, and pearls she could ever imagine—her dream job, indeed.

My Review:

Herne knows how to pack an emotional wallop in novella length stories. Short and definitely sweet, but filled with conflict and angst and so much hope your heart will soar.

I just love Tara. A unique heroine in that she's completely comfortable in her own skin. She's outspoken and compassionate, fun-loving and so upbeat you can't help but fall in love with her from the get go. In comparison, Greg is intent on climbing the corporate ladder and is just discovering that his ambition has left a void in his life. Tara is good for him and if he let her she could tempt him away from some long-term goals. But he isn't going to let her. At least, he thinks he isn't. Watching Greg come alive in love and faith makes an inspirational read that hovers on magical.

Please note that All Dressed Up In Love is available in ebook format only. It is part of Zondervan's second Year of Weddings novella collection. A new novella will be released every month of 2015 and then published in paperback collections in 2016.

Broken Silence

GIVEAWAY

URBAN, ANSLEE
BROKEN SILENCE

She's hiding a deadly secret...

…and someone wants to make sure Amber Talbot never reveals it. When she becomes the target of a car bomb and a home invasion, she gets the message loud and clear. If she tells anyone her secret, she will die. The person charged with protecting her is police detective Patrick Wiley—the fiancé she walked away from but never forgot. The same man she never wanted to tell about the attack that left her for dead. Back then Patrick couldn't save her. Now he must. Because the attacker has returned to finish what he started. Except this time he's got them both in his sights.

My Review:

Charged with danger and excitement. The only silence broken in my house was from my gasps of alarm! (and my warning shouts at the hapless heroine!) Taut suspense, plenty of action and a rekindling love all combine to make this a winning read. Not to the mention the impact of Amber's secret (felt like shards of glass piercing my heart.) Urban keeps cranking up the tension in the fast-paced plot until the no-holds-bar conclusion.

Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe

GIVEAWAY

LUCADO, MAX
LEE, CANDACE
NEWMAN, ERIC
MIRACLE AT THE HIGHTER GROUNDS CAFE

What if you could ask God anything? What would you ask? And how would he answer?Chelsea Chambers is on her own. After a public split from her NFL superstar husband, Chelsea takes a bold step out of the limelight and behind the counter of the Higher Grounds Café, an old-fashioned coffee shop in dire need of reinvention. But when her courage, expert planning, and out-of-this-world cupcakes fail to pay the bills, this newly single mom finds herself desperate for help. Better yet, a miracle.

Then a curious stranger lands at Chelsea's door, and with him, an even more curious string of events. Soon, customers are flocking to the Higher Grounds Café, and not just for the cupcakes and cappuccino. They've come for the internet connection to the divine. Now the café has become the go-to place for people in search of answers to life's biggest questions.

When a catastrophe strikes and her ex comes calling, Chelsea begins to wonder if the whole universe is conspiring against her quest to make it on her own. After a shocking discovery opens her eyes to the unseen world around her, Chelsea finds the courage to ask, and heaven answers in a most unexpected way.

My Review:

So different and refreshing. The story has a magical, fairy tale quality to it but is anchored in faith. So many beautiful images conjured up by these well-crafted words. In fact, it's the kind of story that I had no trouble visualizing -- like a movie running through my head. Particularly love the notion that the essence of prayers linger long after they have been uttered. And that they cast light through the darkness. This was a major 'goosebump' read for me -- which means it spoke to my soul on many levels.

There's humour and sorrow; fear and anger. A gnarly slice of real life. Through it all, the authors show how God can meet you wherever you are with unconditional love. Inspiring and hopeful -- a heaven sent read that is sure to bless you.

My thanks to Litfuse Publicity Group and Thomas Nelson for supplying me with a review copy of this book.

Anna's Crossing

GIVEAWAY

FISHER, SUZANNE WOODS
ANNA'S CROSSING

When Anna König first meets Bairn, the Scottish ship carpenter of the Charming Nancy, their encounter is anything but pleasant. Anna is on the ship only to ensure the safe arrival of her loved ones to the New World. Hardened by years of living at sea, Bairn resents toting these naïve farmers--dubbed "Peculiars" by deckhands--across the ocean. As delays, storms, illness, and diminishing provisions afflict crew and passengers alike, Bairn finds himself drawn to Anna's serene nature. For her part, Anna can't seem to stay below deck and far away from the aloof ship's carpenter, despite warnings.

When an act of sacrifice leaves Anna in a perilous situation, Bairn discovers he may not have left his faith as firmly in the past as he thought. But has the revelation come too late?

Amish fiction favorite Suzanne Woods Fisher brings her fans back to the beginning of Amish life in America with this fascinating glimpse into the first ocean crossing as seen through the eyes of a devout young woman and an irreverent man. Blending the worlds of Amish and historical fiction, Fisher is sure to delight her longtime fans even as she attracts new ones with her superb and always surprise-filled writing.

My Review:

A mesmerizing story that I couldn't put down. Mixing the Amish and Historical genres is definitely a winning combination in my book! Exceptional research in both genres brought a depth and breadth to the story that thrilled me all the way to my toes. And there came a point in the story where I skittered to a complete stop because I was that gobsmacked. Completely. Totally. Did-not-see-that-coming kind of stunned. Wowzers! Now that makes for an exciting read.

Fisher's trademark characters leap off the page -- though this time the community is on a ship. Loved Anna from the get go. Bairn is a contradiction of aloof sternness and kind compassion. Such a complicated man and I enjoyed the way Anna stood up to him. He enjoyed that too. :-) They are wary adversaries at first and then reluctant allies who ease into an unusual friendship. When love comes, it takes them by surprise and is all the more heart rending because of the impossibility of a romance between Bairn and Anna. Talk about sending a reader into an emotional tailspin!

And then there's a full gamut of secondary characters. The kind that made my blood boil or kept me in stitches with their antics. Fisher knows how to expertly weave characters and plot in order to deliver a compelling read that begs to be devoured in one sitting.

Spring Brides : Three Novellas

GIVEAWAY

HAUCK, RACHEL
WORTH, LENORA
MOSELEY, MEG
SPRING BRIDES : THREE NOVELLAS

Happily ever after begins today. The honor of your presence is requested at three spring weddings ...

A March Bride by Rachel Hauck
Susanna Truitt (Once Upon a Prince) is three weeks from royalty. She'll soon marry King Nathaniel II of Brighton Kingdom. But when the government insists she renounce her American citizenship before the wedding, coupled with the lack of involvement by family and friends, Susanna's heart begins to doubt whether this marriage is God's plan for her.

An April Bride by Lenora Worth
Bride-to-be Stella Carson cannot wait another day to marry soldier Marshall Henderson. But when Marshall returns home to Louisiana, it becomes clear to them both that he is not the man he used to be. With only weeks until the wedding, Stella and Marshall must choose between a marriage built on the past and faith in long-ago love or a very different future than the one Stella imagined.

A May Bride by Meg Moseley
Ellie Martin, a country girl living in Atlanta, has dreamed of a traditional wedding all her life, but she's missing a key ingredient to her plans for the future: a groom. Then Ellie meets Gray Whitby-at a wedding of all places. But when Ellie jeopardizes her own future for the sake of her sister, Gray feels like he'll always be second to Ellie's family. Can Ellie and Gray find their own way together amidst the demands and perceptions of others, or will their romance end before it has truly begun?

My Review:

These novellas were originally released as individual ebooks in 2014. I love that Zondervan has compiled the whole year's worth into four books, divided by season. Hoorah for this spring collection -- not only because the stories are completely captivating, but because it brought the hope of spring as well.

A March Bride by Rachel Hauck -- Amazing! I haven't read Once Upon a Prince but I got right into the story without any problem. I think fans of the book will get an even bigger thrill out of this little hiccup in Nathaniel and Susanna's love story. It is rife with angst as they struggle to mesh their lives and expectations. A beautiful and profound faith message makes this an even richer read.

An April Bride by Lenora Worth -- This one really tugged at my heart. Such a huge subject to tackle in a novella and yet the author does an incredible job of creating a deep and moving love story around very complicated circumstances. I can't say more without posting spoilers but this novella really made an impact on me.

A May Bride by Meg Moseley -- A memorable (and very creative) first meet had me grinning. I knew right away that Ellie and Gray were meant for each other, but Moseley takes them on a bumpy ride to matrimony. There's grit and angst aplenty as these two learn to give more than take as they face the dynamics of becoming a couple.
