LEON, BONNIE
TOUCHING THE CLOUDS
Kate Evans is an adventurous and independent woman with a pioneering spirit. When she leaves her home in Washington State to follow her dream of being an Alaskan bush pilot, she knows it will be an uphill battle. But she never expected it to be quite like this. As the lone woman in a man's world, she finds that contending with people's expectations is almost as treacherous as navigating the wild arctic storms.
When she crosses paths with a mysterious man living alone in the forbidding wilderness, she faces a new challenge. Can Kate break through the walls he has put up around his heart? And will fear keep her from realizing her dreams?
Book 1 in the Alaskan Skies series, Touching the Clouds will draw you in with raw emotion and suspense, all against the stunning backdrop of the Alaskan wilds.
FROM THE 1930'S TIME PERIOD AND THE ALASKA SETTING TO THE VERY SLOW-BURN ROMANCE, TOUCHING THE CLOUDS IS JUST A TAD DIFFERENT FROM OTHER BOOKS ON THE MARKET AND I LOVED IT! A REFRESHING READ.
KATE'S INDOMITABLE SPIRIT COMES THROUGH FROM THE VERY FIRST PAGE BUT THOUGH SHE'S NAMED HER PLANE 'FEARLESS KATE', A LOT OF PRIVATE DEMONS HAVE HER RUNNING SCARED. INSECURE, GRAPPLING WITH HER DESIRE FOR A CAREER (SHE EVEN LEAVES BEHIND A FIANCE) AND STRUGGLING TO OVERCOME A TRAGEDY IN HER PAST MAKE FOR COMPELLING CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.
THE COCKPIT SCENES WERE RIVETING. I'M NOT SOMEONE WHO WOULD EVER HAVE THE NERVE TO GO UP IN A SMALL PLANE AND HAVE RARELY FLOWN IN A BIG ONE BUT LEON HAD ME TOTALLY FASCINATED BY THE WHOLE AVIATION ANGLE. I ALSO ENJOYED THE PIONEER FEEL OF THE ALASKAN WILDERNESS. I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE LAND AND ITS PEOPLE.

THIS IS THE FIRST OF A SERIES AND THE ROMANCE DOESN'T SOLIDIFY UNTIL THE LAST FEW PAGES OF THE BOOK. NORMALLY THAT WOULD HAVE TURNED ME OFF SINCE I LIKE ROMANCE IN A READ BUT I WAS SO CAUGHT UP IN BOTH KATE'S AND PAUL'S PERSONAL JOURNEYS THAT I STILL FELT FULFILLED BY THE END. I'M HOPING THAT LEON CARRIES THEIR ROMANCE INTO THE NEXT BOOK.
Hi. Thanks for the great review. So glad you enjoyed the review.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, book two will continue the romance, but there are some unexpected twists and turns coming. :-)
Blessings,
Bonnie Leon
Oops. I enjoyed the review. I'm so glad you enjoyed the book. :-)

Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for that titillating bit of information...the unexpected twists and turns coming in the next book, which is obviously not coming out any time soon because I searched high and low and I can't even find a mention of a title for it. In any case I'll look forward to reading it when it hits the bookstores but in the meantime I see you have written lots more so I can spend my wait time happily reading.
Kav,
ReplyDeleteI love how concise your reviews are, yet you seem to capture the essence of the books very well. I struggle with being too wordy :).
Thanks Julia,
ReplyDeleteLOL I've never been called a concise writer before! I tend to ramble...a lot.
