PUTMAN, CARA C.
A WEDDING TRANSPIRES ON MACINAC ISLAND
When past and present collide, God still has a plan.
Attorney Alanna Stone vowed long ago to avoid Mackinac Island. Although it may seem like the perfect place to heal, for Alanna it holds too many memories of a painful past.
But an exhausting high-profile case and an urgent plea from her parents have brought Alanna home. Moving into the cabin next to Jonathan Covington doesn't help her. Jonathan may have been her first love, but he was also her first lesson in betrayal. Now Alanna must protect her privacy and her heart. Then secrets and a murder intersect, and she's thrust into controversy again as tragedy turns public opinion against her and potentially her family.
For years, Jonathan has stubbornly resisted the urging of his family and friends to date, believing he's already found the perfect woman. With Alanna's return, he begins to wonder if he's waited too long for someone who isn't the right one after all.
Will Alanna and Jonathan be able to lay aside the past and let God heal their hearts?
My Review:
The setting absolutely captivated me! I don't think I've ever read a book set on Mackinac Island before and Putman did a fantastic job of capturing the magic of life on the island. Enough so that I felt compelled to google it and check on houses for rent! LOL. This little bit of heaven is definitely on my 'must visit' list now (someday when I'm rich and famous!)
But this book isn't all about the pretty backdrop, though that does lend very well to the intrigue and suspense in the plot. Putman has crafted a gripping read replete with emotional angst, a twisty mystery and compelling romance.
Jonathan and Alanna are drawn to each other right from their first 're-meet', both drawing on misconceptions from the past that complicate any hope for the future. I love the way Putman slowly pulls them together and then delights in pulling the rug out from under them again and again. Definitely kept me turning those page!
A Wedding Transpires on Mackinac Island is the perfect blend of mystery and romance and definitely belongs on the top of every avid readers' TBR pile!

Joy -- This one slipped under my radar too, until I browsed all the publisher's websites for new releases. The whole concept of a carless island captured my interest. It's like reading about an exotic locale without leaving the country!
ReplyDeleteJen -- Definitely good -- and good luck to you!
Nancee -- How cool is that? I'm kind of jealous. But having read this book, I feel like I've been to Mackinac Island anyway. Good luck!
