FIRST EVER RETRO READER'S CHOICE GIVEAWAY
It happens sometimes -- you pick up a book and it just doesn't jive so you pick up another one and you're like 'meh' so you try yet another and it's 'nu-uh'. That happened to me recently. Three retro reads in a row just didn't float my boat so I don't have an offering this week. Not to despair though because I've had the brilliant idea of hosting the first ever RETRO READER'S CHOICE GIVEAWAY
That means YOU get to CHOOSE which book you would like the chance to win. The rules are simple:
1. Books must be published in 2014 or earlier.
2. Must be Christian Fiction -- but can be any genre.
3. Include the title of the book you would like to win in your comment (or email).
4. One entry per reader.
GIVEAWAY OPPORTUNITY:
If you would like an opportunity to win a copy of a retro read (published 2014 or earlier) please leave a comment below or email me at kavluvstoreadATyahooDOTca. If you post a comment and add your email address, please use AT and DOT instead of @ and . in the address to protect yourself from spammers. If you enter the draw via email please remember to put the title in the subject line so that it's easy for me to spot your entry. Draw will be held and winner announced on Sunday October 10 2015. Offer open to international readers. Good luck!
Oh no, I am sorry you didn't care for your recent reads!
ReplyDeleteI would choose Callie's Mountain: The Melungeon Series (Volume 1) by Katt Anderson. I have been wanting that a long time. Thank you!
campbellamyd at gmail dot com
Now you see, here's one I've never heard of so you're growing my retro TBR list. I knew this was going to be a good idea. Good luck, Amy.
DeleteI wrote two looong comments to you about the wacky dream I had with you in it and they both flew out the window. Wahh... So am keeping it short and sweet this time -- well sorta. I would love to read White Christmas in Webster County by Laura Hilton. I think I would pass slap out if I ever won one of her books! Tried MANY times! Thx for the opportunity and the fun giveaway!
ReplyDeletedianalflowers(at)aol(dot)com
Better get your fainting couch ready then, Diana, in case you win. Wouldn't want you passing out and hitting your head on the floor. A concussion would mess with your reading time. Bwahahahahahahaha! Good luck.
DeleteLOL! I'll check the winners lying down -- just in case.
DeleteI could easily list you a dozen books or more, but since I see you don't have the author Jocelyn Green listed on your sidebar, how about Wedded to War? It's the first of her four Heroines Behind the Lines novels about the Civil War.
ReplyDeleterachaeldalquist AT yahoo DOT com
Oh -- yes -- I have seen her name bandied about online and often thought I should check her out. Thanks for the prodding, Rachael. Good luck.
DeleteWedded to War is a great book!
DeleteAnother endorsement. Must hunt a copy down.
DeleteA third endorsement so now is official! :) Its very deep (but then so was the civil war) but it really is a good book! Jocelyn always leaves me with the feeling I just HAVE to read her next book!
DeleteLOL -- I'm convinced!!!!
DeleteI loved the entire Heroines Behind the Lines series. You MUST read them all, Kav! :)
DeleteI recently saw a book by Wanda Brunsetter called Amish White Christmas Pie. I love Christmas books and this looks so good with some recipes added.
ReplyDeletepbclark(at)netins(dot)net
Oh, that does look good. Good luck, rubynreba.
DeleteIt's a great read! And if has the recipe in the back! Always the cherry on top in my book! LOL! IT sounds delicious and the book is entertaining as well! Wanda always comes up with the most unique plots!
DeleteI haven't read many of Wanda's books -- I'm getting a tad panicky at the catching up I have to do!
DeleteBreathe breathe! It will all be okay Kav! ;)
Deletewhat a fun giveaway! I would choose Cathy Gohlke's Band of Sisters. I've read one of her books so far, couldn't put it down!
ReplyDeleteLoved Band of Sisters and am just about to read her most recent one now. Good luck, flipflop. :-)
DeleteGREAT choice! I've been wanting to read that one also!
DeleteWhat a great giveaway! There are so many titles to choose from...
ReplyDeleteI'll go with Words by Ginny L. Yttrup. I've been meaning to get this book for a while :)
Thanks for the chance and I hope you get a lot of inspiration for your future retro reads ;)
samanthabis23 at gmail dot com
It's turning out that way, Samantha. Good luck.
DeleteI love finding great books from everyone's recommendations! I'm wishing for Call of the Prairie by Vickie McDonough.
ReplyDeletecolorvibrant at gmail dot com
Fellow book lover recommendations are always the best! Good luck, Heidi!
DeleteI would love to read 'Forsaken Dreams' (Escape to Paradise #1) by MaryLu Tyndall
ReplyDeletedandtdearing {at} earthlink {dot} net
That's a new one to me too. Good luck, Tammi.
DeleteOne book I've had on my TBR list for awhile that I would like to get is "The Brickmaker's Bride" by Judith Miller. This is a neat giveaway Kav, Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGreat choice, Loraine. Good luck.
DeleteI had to delete my first comment, b/c I did my email in the improper form. Sorry about your retro read fails. I am going to choose "Kept" by Sally Bradley. It's one I haven't read, but only hear amazing things about. - Terrill
ReplyDeletetlhcoupon (at) hotmail (dot) com
No worries, Terrill, I deleted it for good. I've been hearing about Sally Bradley and Kept certainly looks intriguing. Thanks for the tip and good luck!
Delete"Bridge to Haven" by Francine Rivers for me! I love, love, love Francine Rivers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway, Kav!
janka(dot)halcinova(at)gmail(dot)com
I've never read any Francine Rivers...astonishing, I know. Good luck, Janka.
DeleteDid you finish reading those books you didn't care for or just stopped reading them? I try to read through the books I didn't care for but it will take a lot longer to finish. Sometimes I just skip paragraphs or a few pages just to say I read it. I had a hard time deciding what book I would love to add to my reading shelves, but it came do to An Unexpected Match (Between Two Worlds) by Gayle Roper. Have a great weekend! kmgervais(at)nycap(dot)rr(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI didn't finish them, Karen. I have a three chapter rule. If a book doesn't hook me in three chapters, I give up. Is that cruel of me? I feel kind of guilty but there are so many books -- even in my retro pile -- that I just don't see why I should waste my time on something that hasn't captured my attention.
DeleteAn Unexpected Match -- great choice. I haven't read any Gayle Roper in a while. Must check what she has out now. Good luck.
The three chapter rule sounds like a good rule. Maybe I should do that instead of forcing myself to read or skip and read through a book. And yes, there are so many other good books out there just waiting for us to read them.
DeleteI have always wanted to read "If Fried Chicken Could Fly" by Paige Shelton. I really enjoy her books, they make me smile and are like a breath of fresh air. Great giveaway, thanks.
ReplyDeletecenya2 at Hotmail dot com
Haven't heard of that author before. Will have to check her out. Good luck, Marjorie.
DeleteShe is a cozy mystery author, light reading to give you a lift.
DeleteI can't resist this giveaway, Kav, although I'm sorry you've had some not-so-good ones recently. But it happens. My mind always goes blank when you give readers a choice, but my choice is "A Window to the World" by Susan Meissner. Not sure it's even available, as it was published in 2005. If not, my second choice is "Mark of Distinction" by Jessica Dotta, published in 2014.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kav!
cjarvis [at] bellsouth [dot] net
You're first choice is out of print, Carole so it's Mark of Distinction if you win. Good luck!
DeleteI would love to read Love Redeemed by Kelly Irvin. Its the 2nd in the New Hope Amish series and I didnt get a chance to read it. I am sorry you didnt like the other books you tried to read Kav. I found that way with one l book lately and just put it down too. Sometimes a reader has to do what a reader has to do!
ReplyDeletemarypopmom (at) yahoo (dot) com
Exactly, Maryann. Thankfully it doesn't happen often. Good luck.

DeleteLOL -- yes -- at least I have a solution now for if I run into a few retro 'duds' in the future so this probably won't be the last. Good luck, Kathleen.
DeleteI need to begin again! The retro book I requested, I have!
DeleteI would like to request The Preacher's Bride by Jody Hedlund. Thank you, Kathleen ~ Lane Hill House lanehillhouse[at]centurylink[dot]net
Bwahahahaha! Too funny, Kathleen -- The Preacher's Bride it is if you win. Good luck.
DeleteFun! I'll enter "The Journey of Josephine Cain" by Nancy Moser (September 1, 2013). Love this author!
ReplyDeletepocoauthorATgmailDOTcom
New to me title as well. Thanks for the tip, Nicole. Good luck.
DeleteGAAAHHH!!! Heavens to Betsy Kav....you expect me to choose 1 book???? That's like asking me to choose 1 candy bar out of the candy dish full of my favorites....I just cannot do it!! You crazy woman.......but I love ya anyway ;-)
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely torn between two titles....I had to go through my Goodread's & Amazon want-to-read list and I still had a hard time narrowing it down!! I LOVE Julie Klassen but since I just recently read Sarah Ladd's "The Heiress of Winterwood" and have vowed to read the rest of the Whisper of the Moors series (I adore her just from this first book), I will concede to choose her second book "The Headmistress of Rosemere". I am looking forward to the chance to get my hands on it!
Now I have to go take a nap, that wore me out!! Too many good books, too little time :-)
Lord have mercy, in all that stress, I forgot my email...haha!
Deleteteamob4 (at) gmail (dot) com
LOL -- you're just like me, Trixi. Can't pick just one, but we have to start somewhere, right? So Headmistress of Rosemere it is and what a great choice. Good luck!
DeleteMy pick would be Northkill by Bob Hostetler and JM Hochstetler. Heard it highly recommended. Love your retro giveaway idea, Kav! :)
ReplyDeleteckbarker at gmail dot com
Thanks, Cheryl. Haven't heard of this one either. Good luck.
DeleteWhat a fabulous and fun option to pick a book ourselves we'd like to read. If you ant the truth I'm having trouble picking just one myself as well, lol, But as you say we have to start somewhere so my choice would be Agnes Canon's War by Deborah Lincoln. It takes place during the Civil War which is a favorite time period of mine to read about. It also takes place in the Pennsylvania countryside and Pittsburgh, I grew up in this area and still live in PA so another bonus and admit it we all enjoy reading about an area we are familiar with !
ReplyDeleteBook1lovingmomma at gmail dot com Deanne Patterson
What a great giveaway! I am going with A Lasting Impression by Tamera Alexander. Thank you, Kav!
ReplyDeletemauback55 at gmail dot com
I recently read The Mistress of Tall Acre and fell madly in love with Laura Frantz's writing, so I'm going to request her debut novel The Frontiersman's Daughter. Thanks so much for this fun giveaway, Kav!
ReplyDeletetexaggs2000 at gmail dot com
What an awesome giveaway! I would like to request: Vanished by Irene Hannon. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeletenj(dot)bossman(at)gmail(dot)com
This is a fun idea for a book giveaway! I own two books in Colleen Coble's Hope Beach series, but I am missing the first book. The book that I would like to request is Tidewater Inn by Colleen Coble. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeletelisey(DOT)boss(AT)gmail(DOT)com
Legacy of the King's Pirates, Marylu Tyndall would be my choice :)
ReplyDeletedkstevensneAT outlook(DOT)com
Had to go back through my Amazon wish list to find a good choice. I pick Prelude for A Lord by Camille Elliot.
ReplyDeletepattymh2000(at)yahoo(dot)com
Hey Kav, I would love to read Sarah Ladd's The Heiress of Winterwood (Whispers On The Moors Book 1) I've not read any of her books. Thanks for the fun giveaway! :)
ReplyDeletepsalm103and138 at gmail dot com
Hi Kav. Sorry I have been missing lately. My computer was down for 12 days and was messing up before that. I would love to win Edge of the Woods by Lori Benton. Maxie
ReplyDelete> mac262(at)me(dot)com <
Great idea for a giveaway. I would love to read Maggie Brendan's "Twice Promised". I have read the first book in this series and long to read this one and the third one.
