An Unexpected Groom

GIVEAWAY

HERNE, RUTH LOGAN
AN UNEXPECTED GROOM

Hometown Healing

Kimberly Gallagher's back in town to run her mother's thriving wedding business. For a seasoned pro like Kimberly, fixing the high-stress nuptials of a senator's daughter is no problem. But facing former police officer Drew Slade—the senator's security chief and her brother's former partner—is not what she signed up for. Drew knows that Kimberly blames him for her brother's tragic death. But to single dad Drew, Kimberly feels like coming home. And despite her best efforts, Kimberly can't help falling for him. Will their past continue to keep them apart, or will an unexpected truth reveal their happily-ever-after?

My Review:

The first book in the exciting new Grace Haven series, An Unexpected Groom is brimming with the author's iconic sass and vigour. A slice of life with all the gnarly bits still attached. And despite the heavy theme that encompasses the story, a lightness of hope shines through.

Sometimes anger can mask grief and casting blame becomes a lifeline to get through the desperate hollowness that comes from losing a loved one. Kimberly has been living with that emotional turmoil for too many years. Drew's tried hard to give her space...until the two are forced to work together. Hello fireworks! Love the snappy dialogue -- the knowing glances -- the awareness that begins to grow into a crackling energy whenever they are together.

There's great wisdom in the inspirational thread that affects so many of the characters in this novel. Learning to change what we can and leave the rest up to God isn't easy for anyone, but well worth it in the end. Add in kids and dogs and a few harrowing plot twists and the result is a captivating read.

  10. I'm not entering this one, Kav, because you must know that I jumped right on this one the second I could. :) I'm so excited to get in on one of Ruth's LI series from the ground floor rather than working off the back list.
