SHACKELFORD, SHERRI
A FAMILY FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Her Guardian Groom
Paid to accompany two orphaned siblings to their grandfather in Nebraska, Lily Winter is dismayed to discover the old man has gone missing. And when the children's inheritance makes them a target, buying protection is Lily's only option. Until a handsome gun-for-hire suggests another solution: marriage.
Undercover US Marshal Jake Elder can't reveal his true identity without blowing his mission. Nor can he leave the town's pretty new arrival unguarded. But while uncovering a plot against her charges is difficult and risky, falling for Lily is all too easy. Especially once their marriage in name only gives Jake a glimpse of how wonderful Christmas -- and their future as a family -- could be.
My Review:
A light-hearted and sweet romance with a thread of suspense.
Jake and Lily together are an interesting mix of funny and poignant. The dialogue between these two is priceless -- the quips -- the way they say one thing while thinking something else. And the sheer stubbornness of both manifests itself in some hilarious situations. Definitely fun to keep up with them and the antics of Lily's two young charges. And really, who can resist a marriage of convenience story? At Christmas time? Not me!

DeleteI read this book over the weekend and had a happy smile on my face the whole time (or at least in my head I did.) I enjoyed the previous book in the Prairie Courtships series a bit more, but still a great addition to the series. I was happy to see that you were reviewing it.
ReplyDeleteIt's a grinning kind of book, isn't it? I need to read more by Sherri.
DeleteDid the cover throw you for a loop? I really thought Harlequin messed up. haha
DeleteYes! I take notes as I read about what I want to put in my review and that was front and centre. Bwahahahaha

Now we just need some mood setting snow...wait, did I just say that? Out loud? I take that back. We can enjoy our Christmas reads without the snow. :-) Good luck, Diane.
DeleteI, too, enjoyed this one a whole lot! It was the first book I've ever read by her. I especially liked the banter between Lily & Jake :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat review, Kav!
Banter is one of the funnest things about a romance, don't you think? And yes, I know funnest isn't a word but it's fun to say anyway.
DeleteA new author for me - a funny but touching story, with the added bonus of it being a Christmas book! Thanks! dixiedobie at yahoo dot com
