Distant Echoes

GIVEAWAY

COBLE, COLLEEN
DISTANT ECHOES

When a tragic even takes the lives of tourists, Hawaiian native and dolphin researcher Kaia Oana is one of the first in the water, risking her own life to try and save others. She's then enlisted to help the US Navy find out what really happened -- utilizing her specially trained dolphin to assist.

Kaia and Lieutenant Commander Jesse Matthews are brought together as partners on the investigation, but as they edge closer to the truth, their own lives are threatened. Will the aloha spirit of grace and forgiveness prevail -- or will it be overshadowed by the distant echoes of past pain and the imminent danger from a col-blooded killer?

Set on the breathtaking Hawaiian island of Kauai, this novel provides an intoxicating mix of romance and suspense with the soothing rhythms of island life.

My Review:

Published in 2005

Vintage Coble and I'm loving it. Suspense with so many possible suspects that I got dizzy trying to keep up! Lots of twists and turns and gasp-out-loud moments! This author knows how to keep a reader's attention right to the nail-biting end.

And I absolutely loved the island setting! Fascinating glimpses into Hawaiian culture thrilled me to my toes. Kaia and her brothers (eeep -- they each get their own story in this series) and their sage grandfather captured my heart  and I look forward to renewing our friendship when I read the rest of the books (which are now on hold at my library!)

I think Colleen Coble must be a kindred animal lover because her books often feature critters. I fell in love with Nani the dolphin. Playful and coy and oh so clever! And there`s even a Bree and Samson (of Rocky Harbor fame) cameo appearance. I squealed when Samson went into rescue mode!

Another stellar romantic suspense from this award-winning author.

  3. I love Colleen Coble books. Her Rock Harbor series is what started me back into reading. I met her once when she joined her daughter in law for a company picnic where my husband worked. She was so sweet and talked to me throughout the day and had her DIL take a picture of us together, then the following week, my husband came home from work with a couple of books autographed to me.

    Would love to win.

    Blessings,
    Cindy W.

    1. I HAVE the books I've read in my bookshelf in garage and the ones I haven't in my curio cabinet turned bookshelf. It has glass doors framed in wood and you can't really see my books from the outside, and when open I have to dig to see the ones in the corner. This cover looked so familiar in the recesses of my mind so I went digging! I found a brand new copy I had gotten for $3.50 at the dollar store! I'm so glad you reviewed it or I would never have found it probably. Just wondering why I never read it. I must have been suffering from some strange tropical disease at the time. Lol Thanks, Kav.

    2. It's the first in a whole series set in Hawaii. I think there are four books. I think it's called the Aloha Reef series...I should check that. Anyway -- good luck, Diana!!!

    4. Thanks for letting me know bc I looked up the series and I have this one, the 2nd one is on my Kindle, and have read the 4th book already. So I only need to purchase #3. Don't ask me why I read the last book 1st. I haven't the foggiest. I must not have been the Colleen Coble fan then like I am now or I would've devoured this series. Love Hawaiian suspense settings!
