GOD'S NOT DEAD : A LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS
After a deadly fire rips through St. James Church, Hadleigh University leaders use the tragedy to push the congregation off campus, forcing the church to defend its rights and bringing together estranged brothers for a reunion that opens old wounds and forces them to address the issues that pulled them apart.
My Review:
The kind of movie that raises your hackles and makes you go all righteously indignant and ready to do battle for good and then....Wait. Oh. Wow...Love and faith in action happens and you find yourself doing a mind reset and a lot of self-reflecting. An inspiring and uplifting movie that had me re-evaluating and digging deep for answers to those big questions we all ask from time to time.
And I love this line: "Uncertainty led to the pursuit of truth." I'd never thought about it that way and it made me feel better about some of the apprehension I have felt on my faith journey. Because it's true -- every time I've struggled I've come out the other side with a better grasp of the truth that is Jesus.
Entertaining and thought-provoking -- a great addition the God's Not Dead series.

I saw this movie and it was so emotionally moving! And a bit of self reflecting for sure :-)
ReplyDeleteI can only find two October titles to list. I'll come back to see what others suggest for a third. CBD.com used to be a wonderful source of upcoming fiction for me, but they are sadly lacking lately. Amazon is not so user friendly, even searching the way you suggested at our last Reader's Choice week. Anyway, here's my two:
#1 Hidden Peril by Irene Hannon
#2 The Reluctant Warrior by Mary Connealy
ReplyDeleteteamob4 (at) gmail (dot) com
It's MUrphy's law, Trixi. Last Reader's Week everyone is salivating over books that didn't quite make the criteria as they released in early October and now that we are looking for those titles they aren't to be found! Gah.
DeleteI didn't know about Irene Hannons' book -- woot -- I adore romantic suspense. And I can't believe that The Reluctant Warrior is coming out already...not that I'm complaining, mind you, but I just read the first book a few weeks ago. lol Good luck!
The Irene Hannon book is #2 in the Code of Honor series. The first one is Dangerous Illusions, it came out last October. I've been anxiously waiting for Hidden Peril. Hannon is one of my top favorite suspense authors!
DeleteI haven't seen this God's Not Dead, but I've seen it advertised. Looks good!
ReplyDeleteI knew I would be glad I made me new amazon

Deletelol, you have me beat in the spelling department!
DeleteGoodness, me too! lol
DeleteI'm currently reading an early copy of "At Home in Wishing Bridge" courtesy of both Ruthy and Netgalley! Since I'm on her street team, her publisher sent the Netgalley link to share for anyone wanting to read & review. Without spoiling it, you guys are gonna love it 😊 You get to meet Thea, and she has a story to tell!
DeleteOooohh -- more insider teases from Trixi. I knew I would love it just because it's Ruthy but I'm super excited that it's about Thea!

DeleteHere's another October release suggestion for someone:
ReplyDeleteLady of a Thousand Treasures by Sandra Byrd 10/9
Oh! Oh! Oh! Me! Me! Me! I want that one. I should be my name in the draw. Bwahahahaha! Love Sandra Byrd. Thanks for the suggestion, Diana.
DeleteYou should pick a winner and a loser. And the loser has to buy you Sandra's book! Bwahahahaha
DeleteSnicker. But I might just do my first ever preorder!
DeleteA Lady of a Thousand treasures is delightful! Sandra never disappoints in her writing, so if you're a fan....Mark it on your calendar. You DON'T want to miss it 😊
DeleteP.S. It's on Netgalley if anyone wants to request it. That's how I got to read an early copy ;-)
P.P.S. Kav, that is ONE advantage of having a Kindle. 😊 Netgalley is a wonderful way to get early books in digital form!
DeleteJust sayin'
Not sure if I'll get picked to be an influencer this year or not. No blog this time around. If not I may request from NG, but since I'm all caught up I'll probably just order it later. We'll see if I make the cut 1st. 😉
DeleteHa! Trixi, sometimes I'm envious of the whole Net Gallery thing but then I look at my over-brimming bookshelves and sigh a happy sigh. :-)

ReplyDeleteI think I'll just stick with my two picks. Irene Hannon is my top one though, it's the one I want the most 😊
ReplyDeleteIrene Hannon is not to be missed. Sigh. I'm in such a suspense mood lately. I'm listening to Deadly Encounter by DiAnn Mills and I'm blown away!!!!! I need more romantic suspense in my life. :-)
DeleteWhen The Heart Sings by Liz Tolsma, second book in her very good Music of Hope series. Releases from Gilead Oct. 9. I am really looking forward to this next one in the WWII story. Enjoyed your review today! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe Reluctant Warrior by Mary Connealy. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe Light Before Day, Suzanne Woods Fisher. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSqqquuueealll! I didn't realize Liz Tolsma's next book in that series is coming out so soon. Awesomesauce! Good luck, CC.
DeleteI just knew via her newsletter which I receive periodically - and I confirmed on Amazon before I posted. I have trouble finding things on the Gilead Publishing page, as I typically like to go the book publishers' websites periodically.
DeleteGilead is the worst for finding out what books are releasing. Sometimes they have instagram posts but that's once a book is already out. It's very strange. And their website is useless. You have to scroll to the very bottom of the page and under Quick Links they have buy Gilead Books which links you to an Amazon list. Very strange that they don't have all their books listed on their own website. There aren't that many!
DeleteThe movie does sound good! Thanks for featuring it and for this giveaway!

So excited for all the autumn reading ahead! And for cooler temps too. I can't go to movies in the theatre - pain thing, can't sit that long -- so I'm always thrilled when movies come out in DVD format. Good luck, Lucy.
DeleteI need to catch up on the God's Not Dead 2. We started watching it in Mexico with English subtitles, but then my daughter got really sick and we never finished.
ReplyDeleteMy third pick is the only historical of the bunch.

DeleteThrilled that there are new Courtney Walsh and Pepper Basham books coming out -- great contemporary fiction authors. I think I'm up-to-date on Courtney's but have a ways to go with Peppers. I'll enjoy the catching up though. Thanks for adding to the list, Trixi.

ReplyDeleteA sparkle of silver by Liz Johnson
ladepooh AT hotmail dot com
Things left unsaid by Courtney Walsh (releases oct 30th) I may have squealed a bit.. this upcoming release flew completely below my radar!
ReplyDeleteAm I allowed to say just surprise me?lol I can't really decide on a third choice as I'm not familiar with a lot of the authors releasing books in October. I trust that you would select an awesome one and I'm up for pretty much anything! (Except something written in 1st person point of view, they are hard for me to get into for some reason)
ReplyDeleteI know -- the new Courtney Walsh one took me aback as well. If you think of a third book feel free to add it before Sunday a.m. Good luck, Lea.
DeleteOkay, whew! I've been scouring the internet this week, trying to find the best possible choices to enter for here and I think I've FINALLY got my choices all picked out! ("Shelter of the Most High" by Connilyn Cossette and "This Courageous Journey" by Misty M. Beller would have been two of my top choices, but I've already got them both coming my way 😉)
ReplyDeleteWithout further ado, here are my choices:
#1. Rise of the Mystics by Ted Dekker
This is the first in a new series that will be an addition to his Circle-Series-Universe and I'm SUPER excited to read it!! (Blame it on my brother. He was the Ted Dekker nut of the family and he FORCED one of my sisters and I to read them. Now that we've been converted, we have made it our mission to convince two of our other sisters to read them! 😂)
#2. The Reluctant Warrior by Mary Connealy
ReplyDeleteHer books are always so good (and funny!) This series, in particular, sounded SOO good to me!
And last, but not least...
ReplyDelete#3. Eternity Between Us by Stephenia H. McGee
This book was on my to-read list (and nearly left out!) Fortunately, I looked at my list and saw it (and it was releasing in October! Yay!😁)
jcservantslaveATicloudDOTcom
Oooohhhh --- I have The Rise of the Mystics on my tbr pile right now -- and advanced copy. So if you don't win it here look for it to be reviewed soonish. I have to check and see if the publisher wants me to wait until closer to release date or if I can review it earlier.
DeleteAnd I haven't read anything by Stephenia H. McGee so thanks for the introduction! Good luck, Elly.
Enjoyed your review of this movie. I'm looking forward to watching it. turtle6422(at)gmail(dot)com
