HIDDEN PERIL
As teenagers, Kristin Dane and her two best friends took a vow to make the world a better place. Twenty years later, she's fulfilling that pledge through her fair trade shop that features products from around the world. All is well until, one by one, people connected to the shop begin dying.
Detective Luke Carter, new to the St Louis PD, want to know why. Before he can answer that question, however, the FBI weighs in and Kristin suddenly finds herself in the middle of international intrigue -- and in the sights of the ruthless mastermind behind an ingenuous and deadly, scheme. Can this cold-blooded killer be stopped before more people...including Kristin?
Three-time RITA Award-winner and "queen of inspirational romantic suspense" (Library Journal) Irene Hannon doesn't disappoint in this edge-of-you-seat thriller that will have readers up late as they rush toward the explosive conclusion.
My Review:
Tantalizing intrigue slowly builds in pace until you won't be able to turn the pages fast enough towards the end. A real paper-cut-inducing frenzy of a conclusion!
Love the sheer scope of the suspense. It's multi-layered and complicated and unravels over a generous amount of time which leaves Kristin and Luke on tenterhooks romantically speaking. Talk about a slow, deliberate build-up to the fireworks! Their yearning is palpable but Luke is striving to tow the police department line by not becoming involved with a victim/witness. But, oh my, how that man can convey longing in a succinct business-like phone call. Be still my heart!
There's a lot to work through before something as tangible as a date can happen though so the race is on to foil a deadly scheme. Fans of Irene Hannon's work will thrill over some unexpected cameos from earlier books. No worries if you don't recognize them, but it's kinda fun if you do.
And this is only the second book in the Code of Honor series so we still have some delectable reading in store. While each book can be read as a standalone, I'm really enjoying the special friendship Kristin, Rick and Colin have nurtured for years. The give and take and playful banter between the three is loads of fun and now that Colin and Kristin have found their HEA, it's Rick's turn next. Dark Ambitions releases in October and I can't wait!

Great review Kav! I was just thinking about when book 3 would be coming out so thanks for the update on Dark Ambitions. Off to add to my reading list!
ReplyDeleteWhen I finished reading Hidden Peril I had to go digging for the news of the next book. Sigh -- we have to read our way through the rest of the winter and than a whole spring and summer before we get Rick's story!
DeleteWell you scooped me on this one!
DeleteOn the up side Irene does have Driftwood Bay,
a Hope Harbor novel coming out April 2nd!
We will have to be content with that until Oct.
Always good to practice being patient ;)
Your reviews always make me go back and read my own, lol. I posted mine last Oct so it was already a distant memory. Here's what I said:

Ha -- great minds think alike. Awesome review, Tracie -- and I agree about being allowed into "Irene Hannon's inner circle of mystery and intrigue." She's so good at making a reader feel part of the team.
DeleteAnd hooray -- I finally out-scooped the infamous Tracey. It likely won't happen again, but I'm mighty proud of it having happened even once. lol
And thanks for the info on Driftwood Bay -- I knew another Hope Harbor novel was coming out but I didn't know when. April is much closer than October. So glad to have another Hannon read to soothe my impatience for a bit.
DeleteLove her books; anxiously waiting for Dark Ambitions; thanks for the info, Kav!
ReplyDeleteI'm taking that both you and Tracey have read this one and aren't entering the giveaway? From your comments, that's my deduction. Let me know if I'm in error. Don't you just love all the readerly anticipation over a new book?!

DeleteI love Irene Hannon’s books. Especially since they take place in St. Louis. I recognize a lot of the places her characters frequent. Some were blocks from where I lived and right across the street from my Church! Such fun. paulams49ATsbcglobalDOTnet
