Thin Ice

GIVEAWAY

HANNON, IRENE
THIN ICE

If Ginny Reed is still alive -- who is the woman buried in her grave?

After losing her parents and her sister, Christy Reed has been mired in grief. Now, life is finally starting to feel normal again -- until an envelope addressed in her sister's handwriting arrives in the mail. And the note inside claims she is still alive.

FBI Special Agent Lance McGregor, a former Delta Force operator, is assigned to reopen the case...but he's coming up with more questions than answers. Is Christy a pawn in a twisted cat-and-mouse game -- or the target of a sinister plot? As Lance digs deeper, one thing becomes clear: someone in the shadows has a deadly agenda.

Bestselling author and three-time RITA Award winner Irene Hannon pulls out all the stops in this high-stakes thriller that races to a bone-chilling finish.

My Review:

The kind of book you want to savor but it's so good you end up barreling through it only to find yourself disgruntled at the other end because it was over way too fast. A word of readerly advice: Don't be a greedy guts like me -- try to pace yourself so you can enjoy this literary journey longer.

Hannon beguiled me with her intriguing suspense. A real edge-of-your-seater and definitely creepy in places. I went into a tailspin when I discovered it has a figure skating connection. Sqqqueeeeaaalll. I love it when two of my favourite things collide like that.

Gripping from the very first page, the author pairs a cunning suspense with delicious romance. And I do mean delicious. There's no doubt that Lance is attracted to Christy from their very first meet but he's professional enough to hold those emotions in check. Christy is just as intrigued by the handsome FBI agent and it isn't long before their encounters deepen into friendship with the promise of something more once the case is solved. The crackle of electricity that snaps between them is so much fun to read. Superb dialogue deepen that connection and create romantic distraction from the sinister actions of a twisted individual. If I wasn't swoon-shivering I was fear-shivering. A delightfully deadly combination for a romantic suspense.

  9. I liked that Irene kept the romance to a minimum & the suspense on the forefront. That's mainly why I read this genre, for the suspense factor. Don't get me wrong, I do love a romance but when you have an intense story like this, there are just some things in the romance department that wouldn't fit. You can certainly feel the sparks flying & that anticipation building though :-) I agreed with your review Kav, you hit the nail on head!

    1. Well said, Trixi. Love the unhurried romantic development in Irene's books. Suspense takes precedence when it needs to but there's always the sweet promise of romance to come.
