A secretive singer reawakens a cowboy's wounded heart at Christmastime
Singer Annette Talbot used her voice to spread the gospel with a traveling missionary troupe. When the Latrells take over and want Annie to dress provocatively and give up singing her beloved hymns, Annie flees to Ranger Bluff, Wyoming, dreaming of reuniting with her father for Christmas. But trouble chases her -- right off the edge of a cliff!
Elijah Walker's heart turned as cold and barren as the high plains in December after his ex-fiancée betrayed him and caused his father's death. But when he rescues Annie out of a freezing river, Walker's instincts tell him he must help a stranger in need.
With her hermit father retreating to the high country and the Latrells intent on kidnapping her to make money off her singing, Annie may have no way out.
My Review:
This is the first Mary Connealy book I ever read and I revisit it every Christmas because I love it that much! Annie and Elijah's story has become a holiday tradition in my house.
I love this author's unique style and quick wit. Her deadpan humour cracks me up every single time. And her characters explode off the page and keep me grinning and fuming the whole read through. When it comes to this hero and heroine, stubbornness abounds, complicating the path to a happily ever after. Lots of scope for plenty of reader angst. And the villains are truly dastardly and conniving. Even more reader angst. But I think tough-as-nails-with-a-heart-of-gold Ma might just outshine them all. A rollicking Christmas read!

DeleteMy first taste of a Connealy books were her Kincaid Brothers series! I love her slap-stick humor, quick-wit and (like you said) characters who tend to leap off the pages :-) My other choice of book would be "Tried and True" book #1 of her Wild at Heart series since I have #2 & #3. DeleteI've borrowed Cowboy Christmas from the library twice and have yet to read it. Your love for it has made it a "must read now!" If my name were to be drawn, I would choose Connealy's Now and Forever as my print book.
