HER EVERY MOVE
He's a cop trying to stop a serial bomber. And she'll stop at nothing to clear her own name.
When a deadly bomb goes off during a climate change debate, librarian and even coordinator Jackie Santoro becomes the prime suspect. Her motive, according to Detective Avery Wick: to avenge the suicide of her promient father, who was accused of crimes by a city councilman attending the event.
Though Avery has doubts about Jackie's guilt, he can't exonerate her even after an extremist group takes responsibility for the bombing and continues to attack San Antonio's treasured public spaces.
As Jackie tries to hold her shattered family together, she has no choice but to proceed with plans for the Caterina Ball, the library system's biggest annual fundraiser. But she also fears the event provides the perfect opportunity for the bomber to strike again.
Despite their mistrust, Jackie and Avery join forces to unmask the truth -- before the death toll mounts even higher.
Bestseller Kelly Irvin is back with a nail-biting romantic suspense where nothing is certain until the very last page.
My Review:
Don't you just love that last line in the book's synopsis -- "...nail-biting romantic suspense where nothing is certain until the very last page." Ain't that the truth?! Whoo-ey but Her Every Move puts a sharp edge in edge-of-your-seater. I'm still trying to catch my breath and assimilate everything.
Intensity reigns in both suspense and romance as well as familial relationships. And the way the author connects them all into a labyrinth of gnarly goodness is utterly sublime! I hung on every blessed word.
I swear the charged scenes between Jackie and Avery snapped and crackled the air around me as I read. Mild mannered librarian -- snort, what a misnomer! Jackie doesn't let anyone mess with her friends or family and she isn't shy about speaking her mind. :-) Avery has some reservations about this firebrand and even though his gut tells him she's not guilty, he has to follow the evidence wherever it leads. Love a good 'enemies to more' romance and this is definitely that!
And I love the way the author explores the part tragedy plays on faith -- how some draw closer to God while others abandon Him in their anger. It really added an extra depth to an already layered plot and had me examining my own responses when I'm faced with life hurdles.
Romantic Suspense with a nod toward 'thrillerish' and, quite simply, unputdownable.
