2022 GOALS REVIEW
GIVEAWAY!
It's the end of the year and time to reflect on our 2022 reading goals as well as setting our 2023 reading goals. So, to enter this giveaway, just share anything goal related in the comments. Then, in the same comment, list a book that will help you reach your goal. So it looks like this:
"I want to catch up on some suspense series. Night Prey by Susan Sleeman."
****NOTE: BOOKS MUST BE CHRISTIAN FICTION****
You can enter up to three times in three separate comments -- and you can use the same goal or different ones each time.
Books can be published any time up through March 2023. Currently published books will be ordered the first week in January for the winners, otherwise it will be an IOU for a later title.
See? Easy Peasy. But if you're still not clear, don't be shy about asking questions.
*IMPORTANT NOTE: TODAY'S GIVEAWAY IS OPEN TO EMAIL ENTRIES. JUST TYPE 'READING GOALS' IN THE SUBJECT LINE AND THEN LIST YOUR ENTRY SELECTIONS IN THE BODY OF THE EMAIL.*
KAV'S 2022
READING GOALS
YEAR END REVIEW:
472 books read (that seems like a lot, but keep in mind, I live alone and have a chronic pain condition that limits what I can do. Plus I have a tedious amount of stretches and exercises to do daily, plus walks and listening to books is my dangling carrot! :-) And yes, audible books have really increased the number of books I am able to read.
29 books DNF (Did Not Finish) mostly because of content issues, only 6 Christian Fiction books
#1 READ MORE INDIE AUTHORS
46 books -- I wanted to see if I could reach 50, but I'm just shy of that. Will definitely continue with this goal in the New Year.
#2 CATCH UP ON SERIES I'M BEHIND IN
16 series completely caught up and so many more in progress or just started!!!!!
#3 READ MORE DEBUT AUTHORS
20 authors -- not bad -- nearly averages out to 2 per month (yes, I'm cheating on the math a bit but it makes me feel better.)
#4 READ MORE NEW-TO-ME AUTHORS
65 authors -- have found some real keepers among them too.
#5 DIVERSIFY MY READING
133 books! -- pretty good but I'd like to see if I can improve next year.
This is largely thanks to my penchant for Regency Romances though, 'cause I had a lot of UK settings. By the end of the year the US might be considered a diverse setting for me. Bwahahaha! But I'm trying to be more mindful when selecting books. Here's the breakdown:
Diverse settings:
47 books set in the UK
8 books set in Ireland
11 books set in Canada
4 books set in France
2 book set in Australia
3 book set in Africa
2 book set in Germany
1 book set in Russia
1 book set in Lapland
Diverse author nationality:
12 Canadian
9 Irish
6 British
3 Australian
2 South African
16 Ethnically diverse authors
33 books with ethnically diverse characters
22 books with disabled or chronically ill characters
#6 STAY CURRENT WITH SERIES
62 series current to date!!! Ha! That number went down a bit because series I was got up with went a released new books. It's a never ending battle to keep current!
#7 START NEW-TO-ME SERIES
79 new series started! (ack, this nearly doubled from my last tally. Oops.)
#8 PLAY AUTHOR CATCH-UP
These are the authors I chose to play catch-up with and where I stand:
Marta Perry -- Yay, I have read everything I can find in print or audible.
Susan Sleeman -- 6 books short of reading all that are in print. So close!
Sarah M. Eden -- 16 books to go!
Lisa Wingate -- 14 left unread!!!
Lisa Scott -- 41!!!!!!!!!
So, a huge bust. But there's always next year, right?
#9 READ OUTSIDE MY COMFORT ZONE (OCCASIONALLY!)
18 books -- I'm discovering that I like to stay inside my comfort zone!!!!
#10 GIVE UNLOVED TROPES A SECOND CHANCE
5 books read!!!!! What can I say, I'm a reader of habit and I'm okay with that. I'm not going to set this goal again, but that doesn't mean I won't dabble in unloved tropes occasionally in the future. :-)
Tada! That's it (so far!) So, now it's your turn:
How did you do with your reading goals this year? Have you set any goals for 2023? Share below or in an email (remember to include book titles that will help you achieve your goal) and you have a chance to win one of those titles.
DRAW WILL BE HELD AND WINNER ANNOUNCED ON
SATURDAY DECEMBER 31 2022
Oh my, Kav! What a fabulous goal list! I'm so tired from reading it I almost went back to bed. lol You're my hero! Thank you for another reader's choice giveaway. It was a great respite from all of the holiday business!
ReplyDeleteIn keeping with my goal of staying current with series:
1) Critical Threat by Lynette Eason
Diversity goals. I've been to Alaska, Ireland, Africa, England. This one takes place in the the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean.
ReplyDelete2) The Heir's Predicament by Lorri Dudley (Jan 10)
It's been fun anticipating new year reads these past two weeks! I haven't traveled to the Caribbean yet, so I might have to make The Heir's Predicament a priority. Good luck, Diana!
DeleteI meant to say it was a great respite from all of the holiday busyness! sheesh! I guess there was business thrown in to the mix, too. ;-) I've read several books in this series by Lorri Dudley. They're regency, but aren't set in England. Makes for an interesting read.
DeleteCatch up on old series that I love!

I think I'm going to have to carry over those same goals into the new year...so many books, so little time! Good luck, Katie.
DeleteI've read books out of my comfort zone & new authors such as Hallee Bridgeman and her Love & Honor series, & read a book about a circus strong woman by Kim Duffy (Weight of Air was definitely out of my comfort zone, but fascinating)! To keep up with a series, go to a diverse setting (Alaska), and read out of my comfort zone as this was a military series:
ReplyDelete3) Sundown by Susan May Warren
dianalflowers (at) aol (dot) com
Oops, I'm either too wordy or type too slow bc I ended up down here! 😂
DeleteI don't read many action packed military series either, which is why I keep putting off Ronie Kendig's books though everyone tells me they are fabulous. Ha -- Guess she's going on my NY goals list. I have read the first two books in that Susan May Warren series but not Sundown yet either. Good luck, Diana!
DeleteI haven't tried Ronie's books either! Guess she'll have to go on both of our goals list! lol
DeleteSunburst & Honor Bound were both great military reads & I was pleasantly surprised I liked them so well!

Autumn by the Sea by Melissa Tagg
ReplyDeleteGoal: DNF books I'm not enjoying to make time for ones I do - I did it at least once, maybe twice. I like to think I was simply more discerning this year!
rachaeldalquist AT yahoo DOT com
Yeah, I'm all for DNFing books -- it's very freeing! And, as you say, our time is better spent enjoying the books we love. Reading should always be about joy! Good luck, Rachael!
DeleteI am low key when it comes to goals,
ReplyDeletebut I do shoot for as many books as I can.
1) I read 132 books of my 130 goal
2) I read 20 new to me authors
of my 1 per month goal.
3) I try to keep current on new books/series
as they release each month
I'll have the same goals for 2023 :)
In keeping with my keeping current on series goal
Heart of Steel, book 3 in the Blackstone Legacy series.
I know, broken record here, lol. I've listed this book
4 out of 6 days, historical, suspense, general and goals. No, I'm not after it at all, haha.
Another must read book in the Colorado Cowboys series, The Last Chance Cowboy, book 5.
ReplyDeleteListed this one 3 times, historical, general, goals.
I 'm nothing if not consistent ;-)
Yesterday's Tides by Roseanna White,
ReplyDeletekeeping current on new releases is on
my must-read list for January.
I love books about areas nearby and this one has really pulled me in even though I have all but quit reading books over 400 pages, eek! I know that
sounds crazy because it narrows my reading field,
but my attention span isn't what it used to be and
I end up thinking can we just move on!
This week has been so much fun seeing all the
new releases and what everyone is looking forward
to. I appreciate these giveaways Kav and all you do to promote Christian Fiction!
tracey14567 at gmail dot com
Congratulations on surpassing your goals, Tracey! I'm with you when it comes to 400+ page books...it's a commitment and I want to feel that the story doesn't have any unneccessary extra padding. Good luck!
DeleteCatch up to get ready for a new release in the series.
ReplyDelete#1: Midnight’s Budding Morrow by Carolyn Miller
jcservantslaveATicloudDOTcom
Catch up to get ready for a new release in the series.
ReplyDelete#2: Stay With Me by Jody Hedlund
Finish out a series.
ReplyDelete#3: The Raveling by Tamara Leigh
Catching up is a popular goal theme :-) Good luck, Elly!
DeleteLove your breakdown of your year and new goals! I plan to read more non-fiction this year by catching up on my TBR pile with some A.W. Tozer.
ReplyDeleteAlso weird as this may be, I want to read a few less books this year. I think that setting lower goal will help me dive into the non-fictions.
ReplyDeleteAlso I want to be more present in promoting books that I absolutely adore this upcoming year--instead of bouncing to the next book!
ReplyDeletecrazi.swans at gmail dot com
Non-fiction is totally not my thing -- aside for devotionals, I just got a beautiful hardcover copy of Jesus Always by Sarah Young for Christmas. Excited to start reading in on Sunday.
DeleteYou never mentioned any titles of books you'd like to win -- Christian Fiction titles, up to three different books.
Get caught up with an author's books.
ReplyDeleteSir Andrew and the Authoress by Sally Britton
nina4sm/at/gmail/dot/com
Oooh, I just discovered Sally Britton recenlty. Definitley want to catch up with her books too. Good luck, Sylvia!
DeleteEnjoyed your summary of your reading goals as well as comments of others! I read 30 books this past quarter - there were several I did not finish. I also included more non-fiction in my reading. I am trying to watch sales and purchase more of my favorite series to read and have on my keeper shelf. Since I obtained Julie Lessman's recent O'Connor Cousins indie published books, I would like to add to my collection more of the earlier of that overall family series.
ReplyDeleteA Hope Undaunted by Julie Lessman
Ohhhh -- Julie Lessman is a blast from the past! I read all her traditionally published books and loved them. Haven't kept up with her inides though. Good luck, CC!
DeleteI honestly don't know how you keep track of all these reading/book statistics Kav! You're the queen in my book 😁 It's hard for me to come up with goals for the year, but the one that remains constant is reading at least 100 books. I exceed that by December, but I devour Christmas novellas like too many sweets, so that pumps up my numbers nicely 😂😂 One author I have consistently kept up with is Julie Klassen. That being said, I need to read her latest release and my #1 choice:
ReplyDelete1. The Sisters of Sea View by Julie Klassen ~December 2022
I have that book on hold from my library. Eeep!!! Though I tempted to get the audio book so we'll see what happens. lol Christmas novellas are perfect for December. I need to read more. Good luck, Trixi!
DeleteA Passion Denied by Julie Lessman.
ReplyDeleteA Heart Revealed by Julie Lessman. Thanks for such a fun event! Best wishes for the New Year!
ReplyDeleteI'm sensing a trend with your choices today. :-) Good luck, CC!
DeleteI had FAR too many books I did not finish (DNR) because one reason or another I could not get in to the story. Certainly not because of the author, but I think I just went through a reading slump or two this last year. Anyway, one book that I keep thinking about (and your review/recommendation) is this one:
ReplyDelete2. Heart in the Highlands by Heidi Kimball~ August 2021
Yes! This is as good as the beautiful cover, Trixi, and Heidi Kimball was a new-to-me author, too!
DeleteI fear the dreaded reader's slump...I've never experienced it (did I just jinx myself?!) but it sounds horrifying!!!!! Good luck, Trixi!
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteIt's like your worst nightmare Kav!! I hope you never experience it *shudders*
DeleteDiane, I know isn't that cover delicious?? I've read several books by Heidi and thoroughly enjoy her writing 😊 A Guarded Heart was probably my favorite of hers, I'd highly recommend it to you as well! 💖
Yes, it is and 'A Guarded Heart' also has a lovely cover! I have since read that one, too. 😊
DeleteSeries catch up
ReplyDeleteTomorrow's Constant Hope by Naomi Rawlings

Good luck, Sylvia.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteAnd finally, the only other "goal" I can come up with is to dip my toes back into reading more suspense in 2023. One of the series on my shelf that I need to complete/read (still, lol) and the author I'd love to catch up with is Janice Cantore. So in essence, this is two goals in one 😂 (complete a series & author catch-up). My third and final choice is:
ReplyDelete3. Cold Aim by Janice Cantore~July 2019
teamob4 (at) gmail ( dot) com
Thanks for all the end-of-the- year book fun & recommendations...my 2023 TBR pile is already starting strong! 😂😂
I really enjoy Janice Cantore's books. She's a great suspense choice. Good luck, Trixi!
DeleteI love your thoughtful goals! I'm totally going to borrow some of them. Here's my first one: Play author catch-up! Heart in the Highlands by Heidi Kimball
ReplyDeletecolorvibrant at gmail dot com

ReplyDeleteWatch Over Me (Global Guardians Book 1) by Susan May Warren
Read a new-to-me author:
ReplyDeleteThe Amish Candymaker by Laura V. Hilton
Goals are made to share :-) Good luck, Heidi!
DeleteMy third choice is Julie Klassen's The Sisters of Sea View.

DeleteI love how well you kept track of your goals! Great job! This year I read 75 of the 75 books for my Goodreads goals. Next year I plan to do the same and one book that would help me is Dear Henry, Love Edith by Becca Kinzer.
ReplyDeleteJolene - beauty in the binding blog
iwant2save34 at gmail dot com
2. My next goal would be to finish off Elizabeth Camden's current series and I would read Hearts of Steel.
ReplyDeleteJolene - beauty in the binding blog
iwant2save34 at gmail dot com
3. And another goal of starting a new series... I would choose The Metropolitan Affair by Jocelyn Green for that one. Thanks for the giveaways!
ReplyDeleteJolene - beauty in the binding blog
iwant2save34 at gmail dot com
Yay for reaching your goals!!! I had fun tracking mine this year. It's the first year I've ever set reading goals. I had a spiffy red book to keep track of everything as I read so it was easy to tallyl Good luck, Jolene!
DeleteI am not much at making and keeping goals, but about three years ago I made a list of about 10 CF authors who were quite popular, or had some very interesting sounding books that I had not read yet although everybody else seems to have read... I still have four on that list that I haven't read, so here is one that would help with that=)
ReplyDeleteEverything is Just Beginning by Erin Bartels
I saw another reader friend post about a reading challenge, not sure if she created it for herself or not. That I don't remember. Anyway it was to read 23 books in her TBR stack/shelf. I thought that sounded fun. Especially to go through my stacks to find some I might have forgotten about. So Technically I should already have the books to meet that challenge, but how about an already published book from my Amazon wish list?
ReplyDeleteEvery Word Unsaid by Kimberly Duffy
I love the way you think, Patty! Amazon wishlists are fun...and dangerous. Good luck!
DeleteMeet my reading goal. This year I set a goal of reading 115 books and should end the year with 105 read. I'm going to stick with 115 and try to meet it.

ReplyDeleteI intend to get serious about playing catch up in 2023. Have to make some concrete goals there. Good luck, LSA!
DeleteI completed my goal of reading 120 books, but missed my goal of 24,000 pages. I read three series that were on my list to read again, but missed my nonfiction goal of 12.
ReplyDeleteI've heard people talk about their page count goals which I don't quite understand. Maybe because I read so many audible books where there isn't a page count so GR doesn't count them...or I'm assuming it doesn't? Or do you tally your page count as you go?
DeleteKav, anyone who goes the GR reading challenge has there pages counted. If you are on your computer, you would
Delete1-click on the "my books" heeding that runs across the top
2-on the left hand side it will have a heading "your reading activity", click "year in books" and it will bring up the page for your page count and number of books. I looked yours up for you. It shows 129,320 pages for your 472 books! Wow!!! You are amazing! Even with audio I don't think I could listen to tht many books!
My goals were smaller this year...
