JEB'S WIFE
Patricia Johns' sensitive storytelling brings depth and heart to this tender story of second chances, as an Amish woman embarks on marriage with the gruff farmer next door...
Once Leah Riehl prayed for a husband. The man she loved chose another, wanting the children Leah can't provide. But she's found a measure of peace, keeping house for her brother, Simon, and teaching in a nearby town. Now though, Simon's debts to an Englischer gambling ring have left Leah with a desperate dilemma -- and a surprising offer from her scarred, reclusive neighbor. Jebadiah King needs to marry in order to claim his family farm. A union, for appearances only, will help them both.
Jeb knows his scars make him a less than ideal husband, but he can be a useful one. It's the least that Leah deserves. But despite the promises he made to himself, Jeb can't help longing for his lovely, warmhearted new wife. His first marriage brought heartbreak, but Leah's gentle smiles spark hope again. Are they willing to take the leap that love requires -- and open themselves to all the challenges and joy a true marriage could bring?
My Review:
Eeep alert! Marriage of Convenience meets a Beauty and the Beast-ish trope to provide an intensely emotional and uplifting contemporary romance in Amish country.
The hope for second chances just leaps off the page as both Leah and Jeb struggle to make peace with their pasts and learn to rely on each other for their present...and that might just lead to love in their future!
My favourite kind of escape read. Lots of romantical tension peppered with angst and tempered with humour. And tenderness! Be still my heart! Jeb is just so.....THUD!!!!
A multi-layered extravaganza of bibliophile delight!

I just read another "marriage of convenience" story -- A Cowboy for Keeps. Just cannot see how someone could do that!
ReplyDeleteSame here -- wouldn't want such a marriage myself but I sure love reading about them...when they end up with a happily ever after. :-) Good luck, SIS!
DeleteHer books sounds to have perhaps a few more layers than a typical marriage of convenience story - which are usually good simply in that there are so many unknown factors! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. There's a lot more going on than the convenient marriage! Good luck, CC!
DeleteOops - typo. Her book sounds, not books sounds!

DeleteOh my goodness!! These are two of my favorite tropes. I scrolled down so fast after reading the book blurb. It definitely gives me Belle (by Sarah Price) vibes - an all-time favorite of mine.
