Marrying Jonah

GIVEAWAY

LILLARD, AMY
MARRYING JONAH

Life isn't always as simple as it seems for the Amish community of Wells Landing, Okalahoma

Everyone in town knows that Sarah Yoder is enamored with Jonah Miller, even though he's been with his girlfriend, Lorie for years. But all that changes when Lorie runs off with another man. Inconsolable, his faith in love shattered, Jonah resists everyone's attempts to ease his pain -- until the unexpected happens one night.

Jonah is filled with confusion. Sarah is not the woman he yearns for, yet he asks for her hand in marriage, if only out of honor. Still, he worries, can they live in harmony if their vows are built on a lie? As Sarah seeks spiritual advice, Jonah tries to look toward the future -- and finally begins to see her for who she really is: a beautiful, strong-willed woman whose heart is pure and belief is true. But will it be too late for him to prove that he wants to be her husband?

My Review:

A captivating Amish romance that took an unexpected turn (for me anyway) early on and kept me on tenterhooks until the very end. Jonah and Sarah's path to love doesn't come easily. There's angst aplenty between unfortunate circumstances, meddlesome family and communication breakdowns. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough!

Jonah is holding onto past hurts longer than necessary, finding forgiveness elusive as he tries to move forward in a life he hadn't planned. Sarah's secret dream has become a reality -- but with an unexpected bleak twist that has left her reeling. It isn't until they both find peace through their faith that they are able to find peace together. A beautiful, uplifting sweet romance..

  2. Amy Lillard is a very talented author of Amish books who sometimes gets overlooked. Even by me sometimes, unfortunately. I hadn't heard of this one. Please toss my name in the bonnet. I enjoyed your review, Kav! Thank you!

    1. I know I lost track of her when she switched from Christian Publisher to Kengisngton. Katie's Choice and Gabriel's Bride were the ones I'd read first -- and I think Katie's Choice is one of the most attractive Amish covers I've ever seen. Anyway, this book is the sixth of the series though it reads fine as a standalone. I've only read one other book in the series. So, I have to keep Amy Lillard on radar so I don't miss out on even more. Good luck, Diana.

    2. Those were the first two I read as well. And like you, I also loved the cover on Katie's Choice! Something about all that pink on an Amish book that's quite fetching.

  4. I haven't read any books by this author. I love books about love that has to be worked at. Maybe because that seems to have been my lot in life, Maybe because so many people give up so easily these days, or maybe because it is such a great example of God's unconditional love for us - in spite of who we are.
    Sounds like a great read.

  7. I always find a pertinent life lesson in every Amish book I read and this one sounds that way as well. Sometimes the things we wish for aren't always the things we get. I have faith in Jonah and Sarah. Thanks, Kav.
