THE LAWMAN'S YULETIDE BABY
Her Holiday Hero
Widow Corinne Gallagher's plans for a peaceful Christmas with her kids go astray when longtime crush Gabe Cutler moves in next door. As if having the hunky state trooper in snowball-throwing distance isn't distracting enough, Gabe suddenly has custody of an orphaned infant -- and is in need of Corinne's help! She agrees, but her heart draws the line -- she can't fall for another lawman. After a devastating loss, Gabe has avoided fatherhood and love. Yet filled with Corinne and the children, his new house is starting to feel like home. Will Gabe run again, or finally fulfill his secret Christmas wish for a family?
My Review:
5 Tissue Box Alert.Because Herne delivers another turbulent story that perfectly captures the highs and lows of real life challenges. She packs enough emotional punches to send an unsuspecting reader reeling so you might want to keep an ice pack handy too.
Corinne is so determined to put her kids first...be the best mother and father possible. And that takes massive control...of everything. Trouble is, her kids are growing up and ready to face their own life challenges without mom hovering in the wings. Change is in the wind -- and she's not exactly a fan of change. Especially the kind of change that delivers a secret crush right next door. Not that she'd ever act on the attraction -- she's too busy focusing on her kids -- but it was easier to push down those pesky romantical feelings when Gabe wasn't living right next door!
Gabe. Let's pause for a moment as we all release a blissful sigh of euphoric anticipation. You might even want to add a hyperventilating bag to your reading kit since it's likely you'll need it once you get to know Gabe. Especially when a sweet baby comes on the scene. Be. Still. My. Heart. Gabe is the kind of hero who stays busy heroing in order to keep the past out of the present. And Herne doesn't mess around when she doles out tragedy. I was gutted when I found out his whole story.
Then there's this one scene -- so emotionally raw I felt bruised -- and the waterworks started and I blubbered my way all the way to the end when I didn't know if I was crying sad, mad, or happy tears. Probably a mix of all three. And sometimes there's nothing I like more than bawling my insides out over a really good story. The Lawman's Yuletide Baby totally fits the bill.
