HILL COUNTRY REUNION
His Texas Sweetheart
Veterinarian Tripp Willoughby returns to his hometown of Juniper Bluff knowing he has no right to ask for forgiveness. He thought keeping his Crohn's disease a secret was the right thing to do -- but he ended up breaking his college girlfriend's heart. Now Diana Matthews has a new life running a cafe and working with animals. Reluctantly, she accepts his help with her pet therapy program. And as the furry animals bring them together, Tripp remembers how things used to be with Diana -- and is convinced he must find a way to reveal the truth and win her back.
My Review:
Myra Johnson has created an achingly vulnerable hero in the form of Tripp Willoughby. I'm fangirling over his chosen profession. I love a man who loves animals and I love a story with animals as well and this one is chock-full of critters! Not to mention the pet therapy angle. Blissful sigh. But back to Tripp (see how easily I get distracted by fur babies?) He's a hero with a chronic disease that has him feeling like he'd be a burden in a relationship. That's why he broke up with Diana in the first place -- not that she knows the where-fors-and-whys of his disappearing act. She's kept her hurt bottled up for years and then Tripp shows up in town. That first reunion meet is a doozy! A mix of pure angst with a hint of humour. And so begins an exquisitely torturous rocky road reunion romance. It's all three steps forward, two steps back right to the very end and I loved every tumultuous second of it.

You'll adore Tripp, Trixi -- though he is a little long-suffering stubborn in certain ways.:-) Good luck!
DeleteWell, call me shallow but personally I just like the name of the heroine. It's one you rarely ever see in books. (Wink) Really enjoyed your review, Kav! Thanks for counting me in on this one.

DeleteOh my, my hearts going pitter patter over so many angles of the storeline in "HILL COUNTRY REUNION"!
ReplyDeleteLove stories where people love fur-babies and want to see that they are taken care of pampered. Although not an actual therapy dog, I think of our little 13 year old chihuahua as one of sorts. I know what great love he gave to my Mom as she battled cancer and Alzheimer and how he could draw her out when she was lost in the darkness od the disease.
Had a family member that struggled with Crohn's disease so that aspect of the story intrigues me as well.
Thank you for your review and calling my attention to a great book. I appreciate the chance to win a copy as well.

Pets can be so intuitive when a family member is sick. Love the idea of pet therapy and loved reading about it in this story. Good luck, Kay.
