The Saturday Night Supper Club

GIVEAWAY
LAUREANO, CARLA
THE SATURDAY NIGHT SUPPER CLUB

Denver Chef Rachel Bishop has accomplished everything she's dreamed -- like winning a James Beard Award and heading up her own fine-dining restaurant. But when her partners push her out of the business following a targeted smear campaign, she vows to do whatever it takes to get her life back...even if that means joining forces with with the man who inadvertently set the disaster in motion.

Essayist Alex Kanin never imagined his pointed editorial would go viral. Ironically, his attempt to highlight the pitfalls of online criticism revives his own flagging career by destroying that of a perfect stranger. Plagued by guilt-fueled writer's block, Alex vows to do whatever he can to repair the damage. He just doesn't expect his interest in the beautiful chef to turn personal.

Alex offers to help rebuild Rachel's tarnished image by hosting an exclusive pop-up dinner party targeted to Denver's most influential citizens: the Saturday Night Supper Club. As they work together, Rachel begins to realize Alex is not the unfeeling opportunist she once thought he was, and that perhaps there's life -- and love -- outside the pressure cooker of her chosen career. But can she give up her lifelong goals without losing her identity as well?

My Review:

"Think about it. Pray about it. The fact that you're concerned about doing the right thing means you're halfway there. Just remember, you're not responsible for everyone else's actions. Only your own. So whatever decision you make, be sure you're doing it because it's what God would have you do, not simply because it's most comfortable." (p 37)

Seriously, can this really be my first Carla Laureano book??? What on earth have I been waiting for? (racing off to hunt down her backlist...wait...better write this review first!)

Phew! If you're the kind of reader who loves to dissolve into a blubbering, seething mass of emotion as you feel your way through a story then this is the book for you. And if you're a closet (or not-so-closet) foodie -- all the better. And if you like fiction that mirrors real life and have a thought or two in your head about the power (both good and bad) of social media, well, I'd say The Saturday Night Supper Club is the perfect fit.

I laughed (Rachel's friends!!!) and cried (Rachel's God story!!!) and swooned (that Alex!!!!) my way through to the end. Page-turning in a delicious I'm-addicted-to-this-book-and-I-can't-stop-reading kind of a way. And I'm not even nursing that bad of a book hangover because I have a backlist to take down! Woot!!!!

What a fun review. Truth, p 37 quote! I like stories where I warn their actions, haha. Come on, I know you talk to your characters too, Kav. Kathleen ~ Lane Hill House lanehillhouse[at]centurylink[dot]net

    1. One of the blessings about reading a new release late in the year is that the wait for the next release is much shorter. :-) I have visions of an awesome reading closet for your book tears. I've seen them on Pinterest -- where they add wrap around seats and...like a window seat without the window...and it's all just books and cushions and a reading lamp...and a box of tissues. Doesn't that sound dandy? Good luck Trixi!

    1. It is the first in a series because the next one is about Rachel's friend and she has two besties so I'm thinking they are the common thread that links each book in the series. Good luck, Janet!
