NO ORDINARY CHRISTMAS
The quaint New England town of Mistletoe is thrilled to welcome back one of their own, Dante West. Now a famous Hollywood action star, Dante is filming a movie in town to help the local economy, as well as make amends with the people he hurt when he abruptly left Mistletoe all those years ago.
Librarian Lucy Marshall isn't thrilled to see Dante. He was once her best friend and first love until he left her behind without a word of goodbye. When Dante makes her an offer she can't refuse -- use of the library as a filming venue in exchange for a lucrative donation, Lucy finds herself spending a lot of time in Dante's company. With the magic of Christmas in the air, Dante and Lucy begin to forge a new bond. But can two people leading such different lives find lasting love the second time around?
My Review:
Okay, first off I have to give a shout out to narrators Mela Lee and Tre Hall who did an a-m-a-z-i-n-g job!!!! It was fun to have a different voice for both points of view but, besides that, they just delivered an emotionally captivating performance. Definitely enhanced my 'reading' enjoyment.
And I was already giddy with delight over one of my favourite authors releasing a Christmas romance. This one kinda snuck up on me and I literally did a squealing happy dance when I found it on audible. Lucy and Dante were definitely worth the fuss!
So -- Dante -- gah! I have exactly zero interest in movie star/Hollywood tropes. Totally not into all the glam and glitz. BUT, it's Belle Calhoune!!!! And because I trust her I gave Dante a chance...and fell head over heels. Not just with this hero, but the plot and the town (please let there be more Mistletoe stories in our future, please!)
And dear, sweet, stubborn Lucy -- librarian extraordnaire and epic grudge holder. Dante's abrupt departure at the end of high school gutted her while crushing her hopes for a happily ever after and she's spent eight years nursing those hurt feelings. And then Dante returns, the town embraces him with a hero's welcome and Lucy's forced to finally face both the past and the present.
Cue the stomach-churning angst because this hero and heroine have both made mistakes. Dante's journey takes on a prodigal air as he strives to make amends with both Lucy and his family. He doesn't always go about it in the right way -- sometime's he's endearingly clumsy or achingly vulnerable. Lucy isn't always receptive, quick to judge, hesitant to trust. Happy sigh -- the kind of wary, two steps forward, one step back kind of reunion romance that keeps a reader emotionally engaged right to the breathtaking conclusion.
All set against the idyllic backdrop of a town called Mistletoe that certainly knows how to celebrate Christmas! Throw in some sisterly hijinks (Lucy's little sister is a riot!) and more than a few melt-the-snow-around-your-feet kisses and whooeeee, you get the perfect holiday romance!
Please note: while not a Christian Fiction selection, this book is a clean read.

She does small towns and Christmas really well. Good luck, Jackie!
DeleteI'm with Jackie, a Belle book and Christmas is a yes from me! Throw in a librarian and the sisterly hijinks you mentioned in your review and that's a double yes! I'd read it based on the cover alone!
ReplyDelete{Like you, I have no interest in the "Hollywood" thing but I've also learned not to discount a book on one thing alone)
I appreciate the giveaway! tracey14567 at gmail .com
Honestly, if this book was written by an unknown author and I read the synopsis, I would have passed it by...and made a bibliophile gaff of epic proportions. Lesson learned. :-) Good luck, Tracey!
DeleteI've never read one of Belle's books. This Christmas one sounds like a great one to try! :)

Belle Calhoune knows how to spin a tale! Oh, and Kay, I ordered your Reader's Choice week win -- well preordered. I tried emailing you a couple of times but your email doesn't like me -- thinks I'm spam! Gasp. So, expect your book about mid November since it releases later this month and maybe when it's time to forward on the tracking info you email will like me again. :-) Good luck, Kay!
DeleteThanks for the heads up!
DeleteSounds amazing!!Just like you I would have passed it over but your review is convincing!!
ReplyDeleteangiepool1606(at)gmail(dot)com
It's worth the read! Good luck, Angie!
DeleteIn my opinion it's WAY too early for Christmas books....but I love putting together my Christmas TBR pile and I would definitely include this one! I mean look at that lovely cover 😊 Add a romance to the mix, you got the perfect combination!

I'll dabble in Christmas books throughout the year but I really get serious come fall. I start reading a little earlier than I normally would because I want to give enough leeway so winners receive their books before Christmas. I'll probably be weaning off Christmas books right when you're starting a reading spree with them. lol Good luck, Trixi!
DeleteThis sounds like a must read for sure!!!
ReplyDeletemauback55 at gmail dot com
It's a great holiday read. Good luck, Melanie!
DeleteI have not read a book by this author and this one has a great storyline, I would love to read it. Thanks.

And it would be a great introduction to Belle Calhoune's storytelling style. Good luck, Marjorie.
DeleteSounds like a great book. I love the cover. Thanks for the chance

It sets the perfect tone for a holiday read, doesn't it? Good luck, Tigehfan!
DeleteI'll read Christmas books whenever I feel like it. If it happens to be in the middle of summer, so be it. My imagination can handle it. lol! Although this isn't Christian Fiction, I'm happy for Belle Calhoune branching out with another traditional publisher. Her books will reach more readers that might stay away from the Harlequin name. I know some readers still side-eye Harlequin and don't realize how broad their romance categories are.
ReplyDeletetlhcoupon(at)hotmail(dot)com
You're right about some readers staying away from harlequin on principle but, wowzers, they are missing out on fantastic storytelling. Sometimes reading a crispy cold Christmas read in the summer and help cool an over heated body down...until the toe-curling kisses start, that is! Good luck, Terrill!
DeleteHey, Kav, you can remove my entry. My hold just came up at my library and I’ll be reading and/or listening to this one ASAP.
DeleteYay --- listen to it -- the narration is amazing! Thanks for letting me know.
DeleteOooooh, sounds so cute! I love Christmas books whenever I find a new one!
