Labyrinth of Lies

GIVEAWAY
RANDOM RETRO READ DAY!

HANNON, IRENE
LABYRINTH OF LIES

When the daughter of a high-profile businessman disappears from an exclusive girl's boarding school, police detective Cate Reilly is tapped for an undercover assignment. It doesn't take her long to realize that beneath the veneer of polish and wealth, things are not as they seem at Ivy Hill Academy. But the biggest surprise of all? The only man she ever loved is also working at the school.

Zeke Sloan has never forgotten Cate, but now isn't the best time for their paths to cross again. When their two seemingly disparate agendas begin to intertwine -- and startling connections emerge among the players -- the danger escalates significantly. But who is the mastermind behind the elaborate ruse? And how far will they go to protect their house of cards?

Queen of romantic suspense Irene Hannon invites you to scale the heights of human folly and plumb the depths of the human heart in this second gripping book in the Triple Threat series.

My Review:

published in 2021

I seriously don't know how I missed this book last year. Maybe it released in the middle of my re-read marathon of the author's Hope Harbor series and that distracted me? Anyhow, I'm catching up now so I'll be ready when the third Triple Threat novel releases in October.

Great series title, by the way, because it centers around three sisters with interesting investigative kind of jobs which, of course, leads to all kinds of trouble. In Labyrinth of Lives, a reluctant Cate Reilly goes undercover to find answers on a missing persons case...and that's about all I can say without posting spoilers galore.

But I can tease you by saying her undercover persona is unexpected and challenging. Especially when she comes face to face with her ex! All kinds of awkward. Especially since Cate knows how to hold onto a grudge, and honestly, when I found out all the details I was ready to purse whomp Zeke for her. So there's this wonderfully taut energy snapping between them all the time. I do so love a Reunion Romance that sizzles!

Loved the setting for this suspense and the way the author feeds her readers clues along the way, sometimes giving voice to various other characters who are caught up in a complicated game of cat and mouse. Motives and opportunities are plausible and Hannon knows how to pace action and danger that keeps a reader frantically turning pages until the very end.

  2. Sounds intriguing, Kav. Is it important to have read the first in the series in order to read this one? Just wondering in case I win :)

    1. Oh, I should have mentioned that. No, this is easily read as a standalone...the only hint at the first book's plot is -- spoiler alert -- the hero and heroine fall in love. lol We get some nice sisterly girl time occasionally because the series is set around the Reilly girls and their sisterly bond and unique jobs. Totally fine to read this series out of order. Good luck, Chreryl!
