Reader's Choice -- Quarterly Goal Review

GIVEAWAY
HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!

I've added a list of books not yet mentioned that I found in my online sleuthing...just scroll past all my rambling and you'll see a list of some pretty awesome sauce books that are worth adding to your TBR lists.

QUARTERLY GOALS REVIEW
GIVEAWAY!

It's super easy -- you just need to share at least one reading goal you have made for 2022. Can be as simple as the # of books you'd like to read or an author you'd like to try or a genre you want to focus on. Anything goes, they're your goals, after all. And, if you're comfortable sharing, let us know how you are progressing. Then, in the same comment, list a book that will help you reach your goal. So it looks like this:

"I want to catch up on some suspense series. Night Prey by Susan Sleeman."

****NOTE: BOOKS MUST BE CHRISTIAN FICTION****

You can enter up to three times in three separate comments -- and you can use the same goal or different ones each time.

Books can be published any time up through SEPTEMBER 2022. Currently published books will be ordered the first week in April for the winners, otherwise it will be an IOU for a July, Aug or Sept 2022 title.

See? Easy Peasy. But if you're still not clear, don't be shy about asking questions.

*IMPORTANT NOTE: TODAY'S GIVEAWAY IS OPEN TO EMAIL ENTRIES. JUST TYPE 'READING GOALS' IN THE SUBJECT LINE AND THEN LIST YOUR ENTRY SELECTIONS IN THE BODY OF THE EMAIL.*

KAV'S 2022
READING GOALS
   QUARTERLY REVIEW:

226 books read (that seems like a lot, but keep in mind, I live alone and have a chronic pain condition that limits what I can do. Plus I have a tedious amount of stretches and exercises to do daily, plus walks and listening to books is my dangling carrot! :-) And yes, audible books have really increased the number of books I am able to read.

15 books DNF (Did Not Finish) mostly because of content issues, only 4 Christian Fiction books

#1 READ MORE INDIE AUTHORS

25 books -- I read 20 in the last three months -- yay me -- 'cause I'd only read 5 in the first quarter so I really wanted to up the numbers by mid year and I did.

#2 CATCH UP ON SERIES I'M BEHIND IN

9 series completely caught up
many more series in progress!!! (oy, I keep starting new ones)

#3 READ MORE DEBUT AUTHORS

8 authors -- not bad -- debut authors are hard to find!

#4 READ MORE NEW-TO-ME AUTHORS

20 authors -- more than doubled from last quarterly review!

#5 DIVERSIFY MY READING

67 books! -- nearly doubled the number from last quarter -- Yay me!!

This is largely thanks to my penchant for Regency Romances though, 'cause I had a lot of UK settings. By the end of the year the US might be considered a diverse setting for me. Bwahahaha! Here's the breakdown:

Diverse settings:

25 books set in the UK
6 books set in Canada
4 books set in Ireland
3 books set in France
2 book set in Australia
1 book set in Africa
1 book set in Russia

Diverse author nationality:

5 Canadian
5 British
Australian

9 Ethnically diverse authors
14 books with ethnically diverse characters
15 books with disabled or chronically ill characters

#6 STAY CURRENT WITH SERIES

32 series current to date!!!

#7 START NEW-TO-ME SERIES

29 new series started! (ack, I'm already worried about keeping up!)

#8 PLAY AUTHOR CATCH-UP

Sigh, making some headway but haven't completely caught up with any of my targeted authors yet!

#9 READ OUTSIDE MY COMFORT ZONE (OCCASIONALLY!)

8 books -- I'm discovering that I like to stay inside my comfort zone!!!!

#10 GIVE UNLOVED TROPES A SECOND CHANCE

2 books read!!!!! What can I say, I'm a reader of habit! Clearly I know what I like and gravitate towards that. I'm not going to worry about it though. Life is too short and there are too many books waiting to be read to force myself to read something that doesn't appeal to me. Might scrap this goal, but I'll leave it up until the fall and see if I make any headway with it.

Tada! That's it (so far!) So, now it's your turn:

HOW ARE YOUR READING GOALS COMING ALONG? Share below or in an email (remember to include book titles that will help you achieve your goal) and you have a chance to win one of those titles.

  1. My reading goals are small, but I still didn't hit the number of books I like to read this quarter due to 2 weeks of vacation and 1 week of visitors. I am hoping to get back on track in July with all the summer heat keeping me inside. I did read 2 new authors as part of my goal, Mollie Rushmeyer and Kate Angelo. (I left you a note under my suspense entry on Kate's book) I have kept current on my series as each new book released.

    I have seen
The Extraordinary Deaths of Mrs. Kip by Sara Brunsvold but wasn't sure what to think about it. But with your recommendation I'm going to try this one. It sounds good and it fits nicely in my "read a new author" goal.

  2. 2) Out of the Night my Susan Warren will keep my current on her series and boy is she hard to keep up with!

    1. There are no small reading goals! I have never heard of Mollie Rushmeyer and when I looked her up the only book I saw was for a LI Trade to be published in October. Is that the one you read? A sneak, sneak, sneak preview peek?! It looks really good. And Kate Angelo was one of my new authors too!

The Extraordinary Deaths of Mrs. Kip was...extraordingary! I didn't know what to make of it and likely would have passed it over if I hadn't been given a copy to review. And I sure whould ahve misse dout! Just...extraordinary! lol

You are brave for trying to keep up with Susan May Warren! Good luck, Tracey!

    2. Mollie is a friend on FB and I saw where she finally achieved her goal on being an author!! I was SO happy for her when she shared this information.
So see if you put her book on your list for October, you'd get another goal under your belt reading a brand new "debut author" :-)

    3. Yes Kav, it was a miracle really because Harlequin doesn't approve reviewers who don't have a blog. But I tried for it and was able to get approved, shocking!
The Bookshop of Secrets was a very good debut. My review is up on Goodreads if you want to check it out. :)

Heidi mentioned this one and I looked it up, It's historical 1781 through 1906. The stories look good so I'm going to try this one. It's actually out today, the 1st of July, that doesn't happen often on RC week were the book comes out before the week is finished .
Thank you, Kav for one of the most fun weeks of the year!

  35. My main goal for this year is/was to read more books I already have on my bookshelves. I have FAR too many that have languished there for far too long. Sadly, I've not made as much progress as I really wanted to. A few have flown off my shelf, but the rest are staring holes in me....lol! So I'm really going to try to buckle down and finally read as many of those books for the last part of the year. My problem is, I see all these shiny new books coming out and I have a Kindle Unlimited subscription, which leads me to read more indie authors. I know that's a good thing because I have discovered new-to-me writers, but a bad thing when it comes to my goal. SIGH! I need more discipline in this area 😂

That being said, another goal is to finish a series I've already read. For example, I have read the first book or two but haven't gotten around to the third (or second depending on the series). My first choice is the third book in the Hangers Horseman series:

    1. In Honors Defense by Karen Witemeyer

    1. I couldn't live with all those disgruntled books staring holes in me lol -- I have one modest TBR pile and one a tad unwieldy audible 'pile' courtesy of audible plus so I can see how Kindle Unlimited can set your good intentions awry! So great to hear that you enjoyed Liwen Ho's soon to be release. I want to read more of her books. Still have to finish the Sparks brothers. Might make that a July reading goal.

  55. One goal is to read new-to-me authors so I'll say The Extraordinary Deaths of Mrs. Kip by Sara Brunsvold since you recommended it so highly, Kav. Also just heard an author I admire sing its praises too. I'm intrigued!

    1. I have been on such a suspense/mystery fixation lately, it's hard to make myself read other genres, so look for more suspense in my summer giveaways. I just can't help myself! Good luck, Caryl!
