Dark Water

GIVEAWAY
BARRITT, CHRISTY
DARK WATER

An elite security team with everything on the line

Blackout, a group of former special ops members who come together to protect the defenseless and guard secrets, has their first assignment.

A former Navy SEAL who's haunted by his last mission.

Colton Locke can't forget the black op that went terribly wrong. In an effort to heal and start again, he moves to Lantern Beach, NC. Working with his new team offers him hope for his future, but when the wife of his deceased best friend shows up asking for help, he knows he can't refuse to revisit his past.

A widow whose husband  had secrets.

For the past year, Elise Oliver hasn't been able to shake the feeling that there's more to her husband's death than she was told. When she finds a hidden box of his personal possessions, more questions -- and suspicions -- arise. The only person who can help is his former best friend, Colton Locke.

My Review:

True Confession: I am waaaaay late to jumping onto the Lantern Beach bandwagon. Dark Water is the first book in the fifth series set in Lantern Beach!!!! You don't need to have read the other series in order to enjoy this one but I'm very intrigued by this 'universe' and am happy to back track. The author has provided a helpful lineup of the series and books which you can find here:

There's nothing like conspiracy and betrayal to whet an avid suspense reader's appetite and this book has both in spades! Deliciously heart-in-throat, shoulder-checking edge-of-your-seater from the very first page. Lots of action and tension and plenty of angst both in the suspense and the romance make this a gnarled mess of a good read. :-)

Love the way the author has set up the Blackout team. I have a good sense of personalities and dynamics and each man has a bit of intrigue attached to him. Definitely looking forward to learning more in the upcoming books!

I listened to the audible edition narrated by Stacey Glemboski who offers up a solid rendering of these characters while creating the right kind of frenzied ambiance needed in a suspense narration. She kept me spellbound to the very last word.

    1. And when they are self-pubbed they can put them out as fast as they want. This looks like a great series though. Good luck, Trixi!

    1. That was the same with me. At first I think her indie books were just in e format so I kinda gave up looking for them but then I saw a write up for the second book in this series on a blog and discovered the series (at least book one and two) are on audible so I dived in. Good luck, Tracey!

  7. I've been meaning to start reading Lantern Beach books too and just haven't gotten around to it. They definitely sound right up my alley. I'm glad to know that I have don't have to go back to the very first series, although I definitely want to read them all to get into the universe like you said!

    1. I know -- it can get quite daunting if if there are too many books to play catch up with. And I was reading the list of books on her website and another of the Lantern Beach series can be read in any order which is great because not all of them are available on audible. Funny that. Good luck, Liz!
